Morning,TAY.
Re-installed Dishonored and RAGE over the weekend, so I might give them a bash today.
Dishonored is great
NO U
Okay, Aldrich, Devourer of Gods can just fuck off… How are you supposed to beat him without summons? I’d think having over 1000hp would prevent me from being one shot but apparently not.
ROLL, MAN. EAT DEM GREEN BLOSSOMS AND ROLL AND RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.
Unless it’s the energy blasts. Those require rolling and copious prayers to gods not affiliated with Dark Souls. In which case, I can only say to go in close and circle strafe.I found Aldrich really manageable (like five or six deaths, admittedly, but I knew what I was doing wrong).
My strategy:
Closing the gap is really important once you hit the second stage, you want to be in his face all the time so he can’t pop any of the spells, and most of his attacks are really easy to dodge through. The moment he starts “burrowing” run into the middle of the room so that when he pops up again you’re there, and a lot of the time you can bait out his attacks and then smash his tail thingy. The worst part is that this is more or less exactly what I’m doing, just that any time I need to heal and stop blocking or dodging, I get bumped by one of his trailing bits that does insane damage so I have to withdraw behind a pillar which prompts him to do his bullshit arrow spam attack. On a side note, that arrow spam is more what I expected from crystal hail rather than the crappy drizzle of extremely light damage that it turned out to be. That’s 20000 souls that would have been better spent levelling me up…
Alright, then I’d recommend curling up in a ball and crying.
*nods head sagely*
Yeah, I struggled with him too.
All I can suggest is yeah: close asap, then stay just inside the range of his weapon, dodge the swings, get a charged heavy in and get out early. Also wear high fire/dark resist gear if you aren’t already, I used the Conjurers set. When you have the sparks homing in on you, strafe with a high dark defense shield and that should help with the damage. If he arrow storms, run about half of the room width from him – he likes to lifesteal scythe while it’s up.
Don’t get too far away – that’s when he uses the dark lance attack. Again, closing asap is the key to this fight.
I ended that fight with mutually assured destruction. Had a few hits left, he charges arrow spam, I’m outta estus, and figure “what the hell” and went for it.
Still counted.
I got bloody close to that myself, he was left with the tiniest sliver of health when he killed me last time. I did manage to get him with the aid of a summon though and then knocked out the Dancer fairly easily. Well easily on attempt 2, I thought I was just going to open a path with the silver bowl rather than instigate a boss fight, I’d not rested beforehand so went in with 2 flasks & half health… I’ve just got the last lord left and whatever optional bosses I’ve not done.
Ok, I’m glad I didn’t read Totilo’s review til after I’d spent some time with Star Fox. Dunno what he’s on about, the game’s great.
Rather hard to pick between playing that and Guard though, that’s been surprisingly good too. Need to get around to putting together some squads.
I can agree with him about the control scheme, but I think he’s way off on the level design. The Arwing sections are pure Star Fox, and the other vehicles add a nice twist to keep things interesting. That level where you bomb the search lights is sweet. They really captured the Star Fox sense of mechanical exploration as you replay the levels, poking them in different ways to see what sort of Rube Goldberg machine you can set in motion this time. I’ll admit some of these levels aren’t going to be as fun to replay as others but that’s always the case.
I dunno, I suspect he was either expecting too much thanks to Lylatt Wars nostalgia or he’s not a fan and was expecting his mind to be blown because Star Fox is a big name.
I found all the talk of “Fox’s neck” to be super weird too. Especially in regards to the tank, you’re controlling the freakin turret ffs 😛
But yeah, the controls are kind of weird. I find that they’re much better if you switch screens so that the cockpit view is up on the TV, then it’s suddenly super playable (although Sector Omega is the one level where I won’t do that :P). I kind of wonder if that’s how they intended it to be, but then were worried that people would think it was too “not Star Fox” to have that instead of the classic third person view, and switched things around so as to not alienate fans at first glance.
Yeah that was a weird way to describe it.
I tried switching to first person and it worked pretty well but I like to see more than what’s directly in front of me. Especially since this game doesn’t have a radar.
Oh yeah, the lack of radar is killing me in all range mode. Htf am I meant to slaughter countless enemies if I can’t find the damn things!
Apparently I play Dark souls better when drunk.
Was struggling a bit with the Nameless King but then last night, drunk off my skull I though “I’ll give it another shot, why not?” and proceeded to down him first try, smashing my previous attempts easily.
Because apparently missing half my rolls and blocking instead was the key to that fight all along.
Maybe I should give that a try tonight because I’ve hit a wall with this guy. I think I’m going to try fighting him without the camera lock. Between the camera flipping around and everything looking the same I’m having trouble with my situational awareness.
He’s a bit of a bastard.
I found a high stability shield better than a low stab, high lightning resist one. And blocking some of his close range swings instead of trying to dodge them all gave me better opportunities to get a safe hit in.
Took more bleed through damage but got actually hit less.
I switched out my beloved shield of want for a greatshied with nearly double the stability, and equipped some lighter armour to compensate and stay under 70%… it’s making me wish I’d done that sooner.
High stability is godly. Giant serpent-man axes just bounce right off it, no problem.
Yup, makes things so much easier. Shield bash is pretty great too. Some jerk not letting you get in a hit? Bash his face in and he’ll be wide open.
Especially since it does additional stam-damage to shield-blocking. Try swinging that greatsword now, fool!
Something about dexterity and skill based games where switching your brain off actually improves your performance. Used to happen to me in dota and cod all the time, I’d perform way better on booze.
I’ve found a few games I play better when slightly buzzed. Maybe it stops you worrying as much about all the possible outcomes or something? Got to get it into the Ballmer Peak though.
Spoilers for Smoldering Lake and the areas in, above and below Irithyll.
So wandered down into the Smoldering Lake… Large titanite galore! Exploited a balrog’s fascination with the corner of a room, then explored further and beat up his dad. 😛 Went back to Irithyll using the Executioner’s sword at +6 and had a much easier time of it – strike damage on that seems extremely powerful… Found Malthael and beat him in a couple of tries, then made my way into Anor Londo and fought the Duskmoon Centipede and his horde of purple fireflies, several times. And I thought Crystal Sage was annoying… The only reason I regret summoning for Aldritch in the end was because the guy I summoned wiped the floor with him while I was preoccupied with dodging bullshit for 45 seconds, so wasn’t a satisfying end to an hour of frustration.Went wandering for a while trying to figure out where I needed to go next – somewhere called the Profaned Capital…
After an hour of wandering about and puzzling over item descriptions, I stumbled across the right road, found Irithyll Dungeon (which can fuck right off) and made it to the Profaned Capital. Now to find Yhorm…Edit: Well, that was fast…
Yhorm was only a short walk away. He has a lot of health, or more accurately, high physical defence… not too hard to avoid his hits, tho. After that first attempt, I figured I must be missing something, so cue the recon run. Followed by several attempts failing to deal significant damage with the (extremely noisy) giant-slayer sword. Before playing around with it and figuring out how to actually use it. 😛 Now for the Dancer…I totally did yhorm the hard way.Was doing the no damage and wondering what I was missing, then happened to hit his wrist – for extra damage. Thus I thought that was the trick and spent half an hour whittling him down like that.
Then afterwards walked over to the throne and found the sword of +1 giant slaying :/
It still took me a couple of tries with the sword and knowing how to use it – it takes so long to charge. Awesome fight, tho – so many times he’d start attacking as I was trying to charge it, and would have to dodge, reposition and start over.Got past the Dancer last night with some help – that fog door is buggy as hell for summons. I put my sign down to see why three of the four summon attempts never entered the arena with me (the one that did make into the arena got one-shot immediately :P)… Got summoned five times, and could finally follow the host through the gate on the last try. Took that as my cue to try to get some yellow phantoms through the gate; one died on the phase transition whirlygig, the other died to the same attack later on when they got backed into a corner, but I avenged them.If it weren’t for that buggy fog gate, I’d have stuck around and sunbro’d for a while – you get a lot of souls for helping with that boss.
If the dungeon is still giving you trouble, I suspect that the key is the lights the jailers carry.
When the lanterns light up red, it takes a second or 2 but then they drain the shit out of your maximum health while you’re in line of sight so trying to take them on at range is a bad idea. I found the best tactic was to hit them with an arrow, fall back behind cover and make them come to me. The other bastard is their branding stab thing, if they hit you with the first part of that you have to roll immediately or you’ll just die outright when they pin you with it because you simply can’t attack in time to stagger them.Oh, yea, I’d made it through the dungeon and to the next area when I posted that.
There’s a bonfire shortcut about 1/2 or 2/3 of the way through it that goes through a room with nine or ten jailers – I basically hid in the hallway and filled them with arrows from the doorway, one by one; missed one that wasn’t with the main group, which resulted in the screenshot I posted. They’re not hard to kill, just need to get them quick – charging in and quickly stunlocking them with a heavy-hitting weapon works, otherwise a few headshots with a bow prevents them from sapping your health if you’re far enough away. But it’s also the general vibe of that place that makes me not want to go back.
I think I only died in there once, but the jailers, the screams, and these guys… I know there’s a pyromancer in that room with all the jailers, but as I don’t use pyromancy, don’t see any need to find the key to set him free. 😛Oh those guys, yeah… What is the collective noun for a group of Gollums? An obsession, a precious?
That brand actually has an effect on it which fucks your stamina/equipment load/dexterity, too.
So I had a Warmachine tournament yesterday and ended up coming second. Which is odd cause I was expecting myself to come fourth. It was a pretty good day, but what annoyed me was that I accidentally pissed off one of the players. At the moment I only have one more Warmachine tournament before the game officially switches to MK3.
How did you accidentally piss them off? If it was in game and you did something the didn’t like them boo hoo. If it was non game comments that could be on you. If it was something that you couldn’t have know would upset them, they should get over it.
Also well done.
In tournaments you play on death clock. Your timer counts down at the start of your turn and once you switch over to your opponents side, you’re submitting to the end of your turn.
However, there are certain rules and abilities that allow attacks, movement and damage rolls outside of your activation. When this occurs, the gentlemen thing to do is to switch the clock.
During the start of my turn I had to roll for fire continuous effects on my models, which was on my clock. Having failed them, the clock switches to my opponents side for him to do his damage roll. Normally people avoid switch for a few rules because it’s so short there’s no real point. But the clock didn’t switch over to my side a couple of times during this moment. In the end I managed to win with only 1.6 seconds remaining on my clock (I was pretty much playing with a conceded loss throughout the whole game anyways).
My opponent was pretty annoyed because he thought the few seconds of time I should have counted would have resulted in my loss by death clock. Stating that if this was a real tournament that he would have called me out on it and was pretty annoyed he lost the match that way.
My weekend report:
– Got a haircut so I don’t look like a hobo any more
– Seattle, at least the area around CenturyLink Stadium / International District / Pioneer Square, is shit. Give me Inner-city Melbourne any day. Bonus: don’t feel like I’m going to get mugged if I go one block too far.
– Anamanaguchi are really good live. Really good. They were a perfect opener for the concert and I’d happily pay to go see them specifically instead of just as an opening act.
– Miku Hatsune live show is surprisingly awesome, though it was also kind of weird. Required to
stay seated the whole time (have never encountered this at a concert before but I wonder if it was due to the projection) and they didn’t dim the overhead lights in the stands where I was sitting so didn’t get 100% into it. Glad I bought a premium glowstick, the chemical ones were shitty. Wish I’d gotten two. Also wish I’d gone for a ‘VIP’ ticket, because would have been closer. Turns out my vision issues and the projection they use don’t mix well, since she’s projected into a glass screen (which looks frighteningly real) she’s sort of lit up and any bright light in a darkened space gets distorted. Closer would have been way better. Also would have meant early access which would have meant I could have bought some merchandise. They had some sales outside the venue as well, but had strictly limited stock. By the time I got in the queue at the merch booth was ridiculous, and after the show was just as bad. Decided not to stand in line for another hour and forgo the shirt. 🙁 Anyway it’s probably the strangest thing I’ve seen in terms of musical acts, but would happily see her again. Especially if they have another song lineup that good. Was a couple I’d have liked to hear that they didn’t do but on the other hand I had no expectation of hearing Sekiranun Graffiti (fave of mine) and they played that, so I definitely came away pretty happy.
– Awesome evening this evening playing Pathfinder with everyone. Missed playing with you guys a lot! Glad I was able to make it for one more session.
@welbot – https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244993
Ha!
mm nice price indeed! I couldn’t handle an ultra wide though :\ Not only would it look weird to me, it wouldn’t fit well on my desk! 😉
I’m satisfied enough with my 3840×2160 28″ 🙂 Only cost me $485!
Yeah, I wouldn’t want it either. Don’t need width, would just be wasted 😛
And damn, that is a lot of pixels.
http://gamasutra.com/view/news/271262/Desilets_ends_legal_fight_with_Ubisoft_regains_rights_to_1666.php
I hope this means that Patrice is going to be back designing stuff. Assassin’s Creed was at its absolute best when he was the creative director (II and AssBros). The whole saga when he left to go to THQ to work on his 1666 concept and then was re-acquired by Ubisoft and fired again was pretty awful so glad he won.
My sadness about this is that he won’t get to 1666 until he’s finished his current project, which based on early stuff looked to be quite long term.
Still, definitely an overall good thing.
I hope whoever he shops it to allows him to have a ‘if we’re acquired by another company the rights revert to Patrice’ clause.
Because it would be hilarious if they sold it to, like, Take 2 or something and then Ubisoft bought them again.
Morning everyone !
I finished Ratchet and clank and Deadpool over the weekend, Now to find another game 🙂
I’ve been getting more headaches over the last month,: so got my eyes tested, I need new glasses 🙁 At least I know it should help.
Also played so many games of Tiny Epic Galaxies – (Sooo goood), and a game of Civ Boardgame,
Good weekend, How was yours?
As of today, I have grown exactly one year of beard.
…now what? 😛
I’m not sure, but I think the rules state you are now stuck with it forever
Uh oh. Maybe I should’ve taken a look at those first.
You can’t shave it off now as it is the source of your power.
Could be true. I’ve already had a higher rate of dating during beard time than in any other period of my life 😛 Even moreso if the Aerialist thing turns out to be a thing.
Good morning TAY
Last song played game time!
You’ve Seen The Butcher by Deftones
How was your weekend?
What was YOUR last song played?
I spent most of my weekend breaking furniture and sorting through things for the council clean up
Fuck cancer
Passing Breeze (Euro Mix) – Outrun OST
Vapor Trails – RUSH
I’m on a RUSH kick this morning, not sure why, but I ain’t complaining.
Drink – Alestorm
So, Torrentfreak estimates over 10% of GoT torrents downloaded yesterday were by Australians – keeping up with our history of more people pirating the show than actually maintaining Foxtel subscriptions.
On a completely unrelated note, an English audio track over a Russian cut of a television show doesn’t help when the show has a made up language that requires subtitles.
How’s fings?
I been watching Game Sack on YouTube & now I’m all knowledged up on Turbo Grafx 16.
@distantdrop @jocon Success! I managed to join a mythic raiding guild that’s starting up a second group at the heroic level, also managed to pug a progression group monday morning and cleared half of HFC on normal 😀 At this rate I might actually get to see the entirety of this raid without having to pay for a run =P
Haha, nice.
Man that’s an inconvenient post just after I’ve finished Dark Souls and am looking for something else to do.
Yeaahhhh I could use someone to grind out my dailies with (a lot of tanaan requires 2-3 people to get done quickly).
The raid group I’m with raids 8-10 Fri and Sun which is less than ideal but I’m not going to join them for another week or two until I meet ilvl reqs. So until then I was going to try finding normal progression pugs for HFC, mechanically the fights are actually a lot lot easier than BRF. I’ve killed 5 bosses so far and imo 4 were on Gruul’s difficulty level and 1 was on par with beastlord darmac.
Fair enough, brf had some pretty technical fights.
I’d be way under ilvl and since the raiding is the main thing I enjoyed I’ll probably just wait till closer to legion.
Fair call, probs worth coming back for pre-patch to legion though.
Yeah, Legion is august 30?
I’ll probably jump on in July. Noobfinder mode hfc, mess around in tannan, browse perspective guilds.
I assume Legion will come with a character boost like the last xpack did. Cause dammed if I’m levelling up one from scratch. And I dunno if monk was the wisest choice of alt.
Monks are best.
No Bias.
Man w/e shaman’s ftw. Also we get doomhammer while you guys get some stupid staff thing.
If I’m gonna try healing this time round monks have a lot to juggle for a first-time healer and I’d prefer an rdps offspec to fall back on.
@pupp3tmast3r you going shaman again in Legion?
Ahh progression groups, when downing oregorger feels like the lich king.
But yeah hopefully it all pans out, sounds like a lot of fun.
Mother flipping oregorger =,= That shit was so overtuned for 10man. Also caster dps were at a distinct disadvantage that fight.
Casters seemed to have it rough in Warlords. Lots of high movement fights.
Glad I played a hunter!
Tell me about it man. BRF was especially tough as a lot of the fights had constant movement, which effectively derails your rotation in your head so your constantly rebuilding it mid-fight depending on procs/trinks. Easy when you’re running an arcane mage with a 3 button rotation however as ele you run a 5 button priority based rotation so yeah… fuck that.
And yeah legion = character booster to 100.
Weekend! Too many long weekends. Always such a huge influx of support tickets at work afterwards.
Finally finished catching up on the rest of Dr Who, actually overtaking Wingman who was complaining that she couldn’t discuss any of it with me the other day. So now it’s my turn to pester I guess.
Went down to Gamesmen and picked up Star Fox, spent a good deal of the weekend with that. Really liking it though, even if it is kicking my arse a bit. SF Guard is pretty great too, will be switching between each of them a lot.
My monitor ended up dying for good on Saturday night, so I am sad, and lamenting the loss of 16:10 goodness. Seem to have found a suitable replacement, but the long weekend screwed with that and now I mightn’t be able to get it til today (hopefully!).
Finally got a response from Aerialist last night, longest it’s taken to get one back. She’s been busy apparently 😛 But it wasn’t a “not interested”, so still have to wait and see how things play out. This is like the slowest game of chess ever. Or basically any game of chess I’ve ever played.
Weekend update
Nice weekend, a good mix of family and work.
Saturday morning work meeting then home to get ready to go out, Had my Aunts 60th as well as their 40th anniversary so big family party. Tiglet got to meet some more extended family, was a nice day, aunt loved the flowers we got her. My folk were there as well which is always nice. Good food and catching up with cousins is always nice. The funniest part of the night was Tiglet eating my bread roll and not letting me have any. She is mad about bread currently. I managed to get a bit more food into her after that, some pasta salad, potato and a bit of the meat before she squirmed her way off my lap. So I finish eating as she goes of exploring. A little while later she comes back with another bread roll and we still have no idea who she took that from.
Sunday I figured mum/dad would come over so check what they were doing but they said the visiting other family members then heading home so we headed out to the cafe. Walked in the door and they have egg and bacon rolls on the counter so that sorted out what I was eating. They even made one specifically for Mrs Tigs so that was good. Then we got home and were about to put Tiglet down when my folk turned up, so she got a reprieve from bed. Later that night I decided I might as well watch Liege Bastogne Liege and do some work. Was a good race, made big progress on one of my projects and had a really good night.
Monday was a holiday and decided not to go to work. Weather was really nice so we went down to the bigger park for a run around on the grass. Tiglet had fun until she decided it was time to go home and put herself back in the pram. Was still fairly tired after being up late so I had a nap when we put her down. Nice dinner (chicken rollups) and then watched the first ep of tomorrow when the war began series. Promising start and we will see how it develops.
So that was mine, how did you mark the long weekend?
Excited that GOG finally has Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
Not excited that I paid less for a physical copy nine years ago.
I got it on steam for like $1.25 during a sale.
Hola Tay
Long weekend report
– Friday played Twilight Struggle with @trjn. I can see many games of this on steam in my future. Somewhat appropriately, I played the USSR. Won by launching Wargames. ALL GLORY TO THE FATHERLAND COMRADE
– Saturday went and gave blood then went and modelled for the Terry Pratchett club’s merch, os my ugly mug will be all over the website soon. Played board games in the arvo.
– Sunday tried to enter a 2 headed giant magic event, but the actual event at my FLGS didn’t fire because not enough participants. Played a couple of casual games, got comboed out in both although we need a review of the second one as I’m not sure the combo was quite legit.
– Monday, Pathfound with the Monday Nights with returning guest star @negativezero (lots of fun) then hosted board games at mine. Carcassonne reaffirmed as my favourite.
Also did a little dark souling in and around it all. Working my way into
Irithyll of the Boreal Valleynow.
A Monday Morning Question: The future submarine project is of great interest here in SA atm. What would you name an Australian submarine?
U-boaty McU-boatface.
Nice.
HELP ME I’M LEAKING
Woofer
Also, most of these could be applied: http://thechive.com/2014/03/26/having-trouble-naming-your-boat-heres-some-thought-starters-30-photos/
Well it’s going to be made by the French so I guess Surrender, Capitulation, Resignation. Something like that.
Boooooooo.
To be fair, the Japanese bid was named after one of the carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor so they started it.
Subcré Bleu!
Nice
There is a girl in the next cubicle over sorting out cards that have been sitting there on the filing cabinet or whatever forever, and while she’s not looking directly at me, it’s still very disconcerting having someone standing there within my field of view facing in my direction for all this time. Go away 😛
No small part of our office politics revolve about who’s sitting where, and what that means for who you have to look at, and more importantly, who is looking at you. And/or your screen.
“But it’s my turn to look at Transient!”
“No you had him last week, it’s my go!”
Hah. Not so much. However, that IS the line of reasoning behind why I insisted on not getting one of the anti-glare screens they were offering.
I need to see that reflection. It’s the highlight of my day.
I remember the office drama of who was around you/could see what you were looking at in my old office. Don’t envy that silly nonsense, it’s toxic.
I’m in an open plan office with about 20 other people. I’m just lucky to be on the end near a window and only one person can see my screens while I’m sitting.
Right now I can see…. 20 or so different work station screens without doing more than turning my head slightly. I couldn’t stand to be at any other desk.
My favourite example of the pure, distilled bullshit of office politics was listening to a committee of concerned individuals secretly lobbying for management to institute a rule whereby ALL people have to label ALL food that goes into the fridge, because they personally wanted to label their food, but didn’t want to be seen as the kind of people who label their food.
What asinine horseshit. You must have been dying inside listening to that.
Our work fridge was so bad we had to petition our own department getting a fridge due to theft of named items.
People in television are the worst.
For example – we had a birthday cake stolen. AN ENTIRE DAMN BIRTHDAY CAKE PURCHASED FOR OVER 30 PEOPLE.
@f4ction
That is the blurst. I mean seriously who does that.
*presents cake* Happy birthday
PaulBarrySame as faction im in an open plan office as well but everyone, even my boss browses crap when people are looking. It’s kind of a widely accepted philosophy that do what you want online as long as you get your work done. Yeah it’s a pretty awesome workplace… =P
you could set up a pay per view or peep show kind of setup and at least make some money off it ;p
Transientflix and chill
Welcome back to another season of kermitron’s patented 100% accurate Game of Thrones recaps. I know you’ve all been eagerly anticipating this day, and I’m so pleased that last night’s series return was so action packed and full of thrilling twists.
Game of Thrones season 6 episode 1: ‘The Recap Woman’
Arya decides her brief stint as a drunken marriage counsellor has come to an end and resolves to become a drunken drunk, a job she is thrilled to discover she already meets all the requirements for. Her new boss is firm but fair, and grants her a signing bonus when she vomits on his shoes during the interview.
Melisandre becomes depressed after going to Burning Man and discovering it doesn’t really live up to the hype. In a bid to impress the men of the Night’s Watch she makes up stories about all the crazy behaviour she saw, but most of the men got tired of hearing about her plans for Burning Man months ago and the only person who cares is Jon Snow, who mainly asks her to repeat the bits about the girls who only wore body paint over and over again. Melisandre is so happy for the attention she doesn’t mind.
Heartbroken over the discovery that he is not Azor Ahai, chosen prophet of the lord of light, Stannis decides to retire with his wife and daughter. Unable to decide between a beachside home or a nice little radish farm, he choses the worst of both worlds when a dodgy realtor convinces him to buy a piece of land at a place called the “Stony Shore” which is pretty much what you’d expect based on the name.
Jorah and Drogon lose Daenerys in a poker game, which would be a great introduction to a porno if Emilia Clarke didn’t still have a no nudity clause in her contract.
Having failed to win the heart of Princess Myrcella, Jamie and his pet monkey Bronn run away to join the imperial army, hoping to restore honour to their family.
Cersei and Margarey agree to marry after the mysterious death of Tommen, but reach an impasse as Westerosi law doesn’t permit “co-Queening”. with one being the former queen and one being the current queen, it’s unclear which of them is more deserving to be the new queen, and which one will have to be king instead. They take turns wearing a fake pants bulge, which becomes a public spectacle and turns them into the most popular rulers since Aegon the Unlikely. A local playwright turns the whole incident into a successfully syndicated sitcom called “Who’s the King?”.
After a falling out about who gets the last krispy kreme doughnut, Brinne and Podrick agree to settle their differences the way the Old Gods intended, with a dick measuring contest. Podrick agrees readily assuming he will win by default until Brienne draws her sword and holds the tip to his exposed member, maintaining cold eye contact as she takes the last doughnut and consumes it in a single bite.
Tired of her really stupid marriage Sansa belittles her tree-husband using a series of tortured tree puns, such as “looks like you’re no ironwood” and that she “needs a mighty oak”. The tree, oblivious to any kind of humour because it is a tree, woodenly reminds her it’s actually a weirwood.
Tyrion and Varys take a leisurely stroll through the park and exposit dialogue about all the things they did on their summer holidays, which started with firing Arya because they still have no way of paying their marriage counselling bills despite apparently being able to afford fine clothing, food and wine. It’s also clear that it’s only been about half an hour since the end of the previous season so the list of activities is implausibly long, but reminiscing about things that happened off screen is a great time filler. Varys and Tyrion link arms as they gaze into the sunset and sigh “those were the days”.
Pretty much how I remember it.
I don’t watch the show and couldn’t bring myself to finish the last book, but…
“Having failed to win the heart of Princess Myrcella, Jamie”
Isn’t she his daughter?! D:This is Lannisters we’re talking about, mate.
I don’t know if being familiar with the show makes my recaps worse or better.
Also your summary is wrong. At the end Varis and Tyrion looked at each other and simultaneously said “Well that was a fine mess you got us into”.
I think we’re going to see a lot of crazy, scary changes in season 6.
Afternoon all!
Long weekend – went camping, which was nice (aside from the rain!). Then got sick, which was less nice.
Bought, then proceeded to read, Steelheart, the first book of Brandon Sanderson’s Reckoners series. I’ve been wanting to read his stuff for a while (as discussed last week), but couldn’t bring myself to start another fantasy series, so the post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting worked a treat. It was actually a pretty great book, and I’m fairly sure I’m going to go out and buy the rest of the books in the series as soon as I get paid. Maybe once they are done, I’ll be able to go back and do the Mistborn series, since I’ll have had a bit of a break from the swords and sorcery stuff.
Also kept playing through Witcher 3 (which is also excellent). Question – how do you get decent Gwent cards? I have terrible ones, all the ones at the merchants I come across seem awful, and I keep playing against people that dump 4 10-strength cards in a row that just ruin me.
Yeah, playing merchants is where you get most of them. Takes a while to get a solid deck built out.
Best tip I found for actually playing is: don’t always try to win the first round. Better to use round 1 to bait your opponent into committing too much then fold and sweep rounds 2 and 3.
Opt for strong combos over strong individual cards – my go to deck has a bunch of draw (spies and discard-pullers), Blue Stripes* and Reavers (the 5-ranged unit with bond) and decoys (for pulling back to end the first round, or for reusing enemy spies to get more draw).
As @jocon says, bait as much of your opponent’s strength as you can in the first round, then pull back as much of your strength with decoys as you can and let them win with overwhelming odds. My go-to pattern is to concentrate on card draw (spies) and baiting on the first round, let them win it once they overcommit; then narrowly win the second round by matching them strength for strength and scorching anything that looks dangerous, holding a good combo in reserve for an emergency, then toss the combo down in the last hand, which is usually enough to counter even the best hero cards they have in reserve. I don’t really rely on strong hero cards much, myself, outside of to give the second round a bit of extra oomph to ensure the victory without compromising my round-three combo.
*You can buy some of these fairly early on, and combo’d with a Commander’s Horn, they can get to 24 each pretty easily – this is normally the combo I hold onto until the last round. Using the Foltest that clears weather effects and maintaining a card advantage basically ensures I can almost always get this combo for the final round – only really fails against an opponent that basically uses the same tactics as me, at which point I scorch their combo before I complete my own.
You can buy them in White Orchard, Midcopse and Crow’s Perch, iirc, and you can buy a horn at the Crossroads, I think.A Nilfgard Medic Deck was my forte.
All your medics, a bunch of high value normal cards, a bunch of heroes, spies.
Round 1: play your spies and as many normal cards as you have medics. They commit to beating that, you fold.
Round 2: Play your weakest remaining card first to see if they are skipping the round. If not, medic back all those cards you played in round 1, + heroes till they inevitably run out of cards. Win.
The only thing that beat it was another Nilfgard medic deck 😛
@cffndncr
I’m a big Sanderson fan, and I think Steelheart is one of his weaker books (still a huge fan, so I liked it, just not loved). Latter ones in the trilogy were better, IMO (so you have something to look forward to). Big advantage here is that it’s a contained trilogy, it ends nicely, and so you know what you’re getting in to. I just finished The Wise Man’s Fear, and now I have a seemingly endless wait until the next book (feel bad for the huge number of people who’d already read Rothfuss), plus I’m stuck waiting for the next of Sanderson’s epic fantasy.
I have not read any of Rothfuss’ books and all I know about the man is that he has some amazing facial hair. Should I read some of his works?
The Name of the Wind is a really solid… generic fantasy. Its first two-thirds drag on a bit, there’s little that you haven’t seen before (though it manages to be quite self aware about this without making it grating), but it still manages to be enjoyable throughout.
So uhh, sure. Read it, except that if you like it you’ll end up joining the horde of people impatiently waiting for the third book.
Doesn’t sound great. I’ve got a huge backlog so maybe not.
Even with what I mentioned, it’s still really good, I’m just a lot cooler on it than the general consensus. Second book was better, kept the momentum up.
I picked up all the Reckoners books recently and they’re on my todo list once I get through the last of the Wax & Wayne novels, plus Warbreaker. On hold because I have a huge stack of light novel stuff I want to get through first, plus the original novelization of Another.
Ohhhhhh. Reading DS3 patch notes and a random tidbit turned up in the comments…
Poise has been disabled (for players) in Dark Souls 3. It serves literally no purpose for players. Which is why my havel gear was getting stunlocked by dogs that one time.
Time to free up some weight restrictions!
As in, the latest patch did that, or that’s how the game’s been running since day 1?
That’s how the game’s been running since day one. Player Poise is turned off, enemy poise is turned on. So that’s why you can’t stagger knights until you get some really good hits in, but you can run around in champion grundyr’s gear and get staggered by a hollow’s thrown dagger.
A dude got a ban from posting a video explain how it was done specifically in the code, so they had to re-post around it, obscuring the exact method for the ‘cheat’ (ie: putting things back the way they FUCKING SHOULD BE).
Naturally, there are assholes out there complaining that poise shouldn’t be patched back in because it will mean that people wearing heavy armour might not be so easily stun-locked by the playstyle they prefer – daggers/straight-swords. Because the main point of heavy armour is obviously to look fat, not have functional benefits, and death to any change that makes the game feel less like Bloodborne, I guess? Or they’re arguing that just because they’re assholes.
Wait what? That’s either a pretty big bug or a silly design decision.
Don’t hate the playa, hate the game. Get on board and equip fast weapons and light armour, just like Bloodborne!!!!!! Because obviously that’s what everyone wants from Dark Souls: be more like Bloodborne.
*frowns*
It’s a very simple value to change, the guy who found it could switch it on and off at will. Which means it’s intentional for some fucked up reason.
Yo, I’mma let you finish, but Bloodborne is fucking great.
DARK SOULS IS NOT BLOODBORNE AND SHOULD NOT BE
*RAGES*
Gimme back my heavy armour and greatsword build! I’m only using a straight-sword because it’s ungodly effective against invaders because it staggers people immediately!
Tellyawhut though, I’ve nearly finished Dark Souls 3 and it’s giving me an urge to go back and finish Bloodborne. I got seriously de-motivated once I discovered I’d permanently locked out an entire area (hypogeon jail?) due to never getting killed by a snatcher (I’ve heard people complain about them, but the first one I killed gave a rare and crucial weapon upgrade material so from that point on I made it my mission to farm them), and locked out of tonnes of quest-lines due to killing Rom waaaaaay too early. That was depressing to realize. Also, srs lack of fashion souls.
Whaaaaat Bloodborne has amazing fashion https://twitter.com/redartifice/status/635007090440835072
Also, you go to the Hypogeon Gaol later on, and you get to fight Paaaaaaaaaaarl
If I hadn’t played Bloodborne, I wouldn’t be playing Dark Souls 3
But… I think I already fought Paarl? Oh, what little fashion that is there is great, but it’s not Dark Souls. I never had a reason to switch from the hunter set I found first. Stats and appearance were better on it than anything I encountered since. That is for sad-making. You should be excited to get gear, not disappointed!
There were a whole bunch of things that mattered on your gear stats, especially frenzy resistance and poison resistance.
Main difference is there was never gear that was “strictly better,” it all had its uses
You just summed up The Division…
Nah. I never finished BB but the difference between, for example, no fire resist and the best fire resist gear available, was pretty much nothing in practice.
I’d say it’s about as intentional as the halved durability glitch in 60FPS DS2 Scholar of the whatever…
But being a Japanese company they might be a little more, how can I put this … culturally predisposed … to aggressively asserting that everything is intentional and no mistakes have been made.
Eh, PvP is silly anyway. All my invaders thus far have killed me by by either kicking my shield from five metres away and riposting from outside my attack range, or triggering a backstab while 45 degrees to my left but still quite obviously 2-3m in front of me. The hitboxes are so broken in PvP, or it’s so laggy, that it breaks what’s so beautifully fair about the rest of the game’s combat mechanics.
I’ve been doing OK with the lag, and probably just thanks to being unreasonably cautious (rolling a lot, lowering shield when I suspect an impending kick), and making good use of the lack of poise by staggering opponents with a very, very, awfully hard-hitting straight sword. (Also, the dark sword allows you to roll then thrust after the roll, which can catch folks by surprise.)
As the perpetual defender (have never invaded), there’s a definite edge in having double the estus of invaders, so even the really good fighters who don’t just succumb to a couple quick combos end up getting worn down to no estus before I do. (That’s when they start taking risks, which funnily enough actually makes things easier).
The only times I’ve had any problems have been when getting ganged up on by multiple invaders. (Always kind of funny when a hostile mound-maker changes his mind and goes after an invading blue spirit, though. “The enemy of my enemy IS ALSO MY ENEMY!”) If that happens I usually go running back to the nearest bonfire, looking for summon signs to even the odds. I rarely remember to go back and grab giant seeds in anticipation of that. Been caught out a couple times when no signs decide to turn up. Can usually kill the first, then die to the second. Such is the price of always having an ember up.
I’ll just find a tall cliff after I beat a boss and dispose of the embered status. I can’t counter an opponent who isn’t where they appear to be, so trying to deal with invaders is pointless – better to just prevent them from invading entirely.
Hell, co-ops occasionally not much better – Aldritch died to a stoically skating Solaire-mannequin, if my playthrough were to be believed.
My lagtastic strategy has basically been a recognition that I can swing more times than most people’s blocking stamina.
Man, sounds like you had a totally different Souls experience to me. I was invaded 3 times total.
One guy in Farron Keep who I tricked into getting lost then logged off 20 mins later.
One in Archdragon peak who lag-backstabbed me at the bonfire. And one on the path to the final boss who I shield-bashed off a cliff 😛
I did have one guy who invaded in Irithyll and didn’t kill me; he spotted me from a distance and ran away to port home. That’s the kind of PvP I like – victory through intimidation and superior fashion sense. 😛
Oh no wait: 4. One guy in Consumed Kings Garden actually waited till I was done killing mobs and was healed up then we had a legit duel. Which I lost, but still.
Yeah, I lost a legit duel in the castle. Dude started by bowing, so I bowed back. He didn’t try to kite me into mobs that were in the next room, but easily could have. And when I got him low on health, he wasn’t using estus. So I did the same. It was a fair fight and he got me, in the end. But he deserved it for not being a miserable, cheap s.o.b..
Kinda makes me feel bad about the duels I’ve won. People do the decent thing of duelling honourably they should at least get SOMETHING for their efforts.
I had a really nice fair duel.
Admittedly, I summoned the dude in, but still.
Summoned him in next to the bonfire, started throwing the Hello Carving. He turned up, bowed, I bowed back, started (mostly) dodging his attacks, and following them up with more Hello Carving.
An NPC patrolled nearby, so he sat down, let me kill it, and then we engaged in a proper duel.
A proper duel where he murdered me, but I felt good about it.
Two major PVP hotspots seemed to be the halfway ruins on the road to sacrifice – couldn’t walk more than a couple metres in that swamp without getting invaded by watchdogs – and the path from Pontiff to Anor Londo. Was getting two at once every few minutes.
Kept on running back to re-summon sunbros and white phantoms who’d either murder or get murdered by the purples, reds, and blues. Must’ve fought a dozen PVP battles before I could even get up the steps to the greatbow archers.
Wrong place, wrong level bracket I guess. 😛 Very decent soulsgain, though.
So all the Dota 2 peeps – holy shit, 6.87! Timber buffs! \o/
Ugh no, Timber is the bane of my squishy support life.
I pretty much instalock Timber whenever someone on the other team picks Enchantress. Burst that squishy biatch down for daaaaayyyzzzzzz! The new force staff upgrade is going to make it interesting (and they are definitely going to have to fix the ‘hit you from the fountain’ thingo, especially with Chant.
But let’s be honest, BH is the only viable support at the moment, amiright? Pick BH -> Win game.
Hey @dogman
Just wondering if you grabbed my email address?
Uni is going to be pretty intense for the next 5 weeks or so, but still keen to be involved in some 40K
Ahh crap. Never saw the message. I was actually going to ask you again this morning.
Ok cool
Edited to prevent heresy!
Ok, I just added you to the conversation so you can edit that out.
MORE PEOPLE PLAYING 40K IS ALWAYS GOOD. We should actually set a date to start a game session otherwise I’m never going to get to work on tables and painting my stuff.
Also, I can’t stop making new 500 point lists. HALP.
Holy fuck. Just saw the roster for next week not only is it a clusterfuck, but this temporary manager does not listen to availability. He’s got me down Wednesday & Thursday morning. I can’t do Wednesday at all & I won’t be home before 2pm on Thursday, i’ve told him this, yet nope won’t listen.
But It gets better he’s got me down for 4-7 on the Saturday, when he knows I do night fill Saturday nights from 7-12, i’m better doing 8-12 in the morning & then he’s also got me down for 2-6 on Sunday with the new guy opening both Saturday & Sunday. This is a nightmare. I just wish my boss would get clearance from her doctor to come back already, this bloke is just awful.
I played a fun game at work today. One of the receptionists really likes Game of Thrones, but won’t have a chance to watch the new episode until Thursday. So I kept saying things like “I probably shouldn’t mention how in the new episode G- Oops, spoilers, sorry.”
In the end her response was to tell me to get a job. :'(
omg blaghman up before noon
I don’t think I’ve gone from having not heard about a game to being super hyped as quickly as I have for Stellaris. I’ve been replaying Civ 5 and Shogun 2 recently, I need a new strategy game and Stellaris looks great,
Guys. GUYS! Did uncharted 4 break street date? Has anyone got their hands on it here?
Hey peeps!
I spent the long weekend building this monster of an arcade stick for my Wii/u
http://imgur.com/qjvoK63
It’s awesome for final fight, and pokken, and balloon fight.
That’s gotta be one of the most unusual home-made sticks I’ve ever seen. In that it’s so plain by comparison 😛 Also huge.
What did you use for the internals, just a classic controller? Or a pro controller maybe?
The paint hasn’t gone on yet, I just needed to test it first. It’s going to get way more interesting.
Also, it’s built unlike any other stick I’ve seen, using aircraft construction techniques. It’s light, yet easily strong enough to stand on.
The top and bottom panels are a single rolled sheet of ply, see:
https://imgur.com/3G0lK3W
The guts are a CCP for widest compatibility. There’s a wiimote in there that’s getting a window so you can use the power button and see which player you are.
Oh wow, you should’ve led with that picture. Far sexier side 😛
Where’s the window going, top or side? I vote side, seems a shame to cut into that top.
At first it was going in the side, but then going by fight stick standards it should go in the top.
But now I think it’s going in the side.
The paint is piano black with electric blue highlights (to match the black wiimote), and a glassy poly coating.
I love the way the raw ply looks like shaped marble due to that curved end, and I’ve been tempted to just glass coat it, but I have a couple of lazy spots which need filling, so paint it is!
There’s a construction saga for this thing on mah blog:
http://thinkcubits.blogspot.com.au/2016/04/wii-u-fight-stick-part-1.html
I can totally see the advantage in it being big. The problem with a lot of arcade sticks you buy, is they’re too small/light, so they move about a lot when using them. I reckon that looks great! Nice work @cubits!
I guess it’d depend where you use them. I’ve got a Hori Fighting Stick Ex 2 which stayed in place on the desk fairly well, though I guess it has a bit of heft and the rubber feet grip fairly well. Also have a pair of the Tatsunoko sticks for Wii which I think were a fair bit lighter, but I don’t think I really had much problem keeping that on my lap.
There definitely are some good ones out there, but a lot of the less expensive ones are way too light weight for my liking. If you’re willing to pay a couple of hundred, you can surely get a nice one though. Still, when you’ve got skills like yours, why bother! 😉
Skills? Me? 😛
Spending hundreds on peripherals is crazy to me, all these people that just casually suggest purchasing [wheel/stick/similar] that costs upwards of $400 like you’re trying to decide between two brands of milk.
ahahah I didn’t look at who replied! 😉 Thought it was cubits! lol I was kinda doing 3 things at once when I wrote that!
I figured as much 😛
Also woo, finally got pickup notice for the monitor!
Question – Is that a hybrid of an arcade stick + a coffee table? If so very cool. I’d buy a coffee table like that.
Ok, it’s only 600x280x50. Big for a stick, small for a table.
I guess you could put coffee on it, but I find that width perfect for resting across my lap without keeping my knees together like a catholic school girl.
Make it bigger dammit! I need a spot for my coffee =O =@
Jokes aside looks brilliant. Now you just need some street inspired gaming artwork on there.
https://twitter.com/theclimbgame/status/724976940445224966
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
@markserrels
I’d refuse to free climb in VR.
I’d refuse to free climb IRL 😛
Is there anything more disheartening than walking to work and passing the DHL truck that you know has your new laptop in it? Apparently – getting a call from said truck an hour later. “Yes, I know where you are, and I know I’m not there. Why do you guys only deliver during standard working hours?”
This is why I am a huge proponent of the 2-day weekend + 1 day random ‘free day’.
Not everyone will have the same weekday off, so places can still be open when a quarter or so of the population has their day off. Better for running work-day errands when you ask exactly that quesiton: WHY DO YOU BASTARDS WORK THE SAME HOURS I DO?!
I just don’t understand how a delivery company can justify only operating during hours a huge percentage of their clients will be unavailable for – hell, even Auspost are open on Saturday mornings for collection.
Even worse is I have another package coming via Fedex, so I’ll be in the same situation with them, too. Maybe I can organise DHL’s redelivery to coincide with Fedex’s estimated delivery date… provided they don’t pass it off to Auspost who’ll just leave a card regardless.
The majority of deliveries that companies like DHL and TNT ect do is to businesses. I’d say domestic delivery is too small and spread out a part of it to justify restructuring their business to accommodate.
Might change in the future though.
Go down the depot and pick it up. Might be a pain in the butt but with tracking details alerting you to the status of the items you can usually pick up a day early. I know DHL and FedEx are cool with it as long as you give them a call first. A DHL or FedEx depot is pretty much 24-7 so it’s handy when you need something outside of business hours.
DHL have a before noon option that you can usually ask the shipper to use. Essentially the goods will be delivered by 12 otherwise they’re put off until the next day (also before 12). It makes it a little easier to plan around them.
The real bastards in it are Australia Post. I pay for a PO box I can’t use half the time because they refuse to let other couriers drop off anything. If they said ‘nothing over a cubic meter’ that’d be fair enough, but they’ll turn back a postcard even though the one thing I’m paying them to do is hold my mail for me.
Coles are working on a system where you can have things delivered to their supermarkets. I’m guessing they’ll extend that to petrol stations and a few other outlets. I don’t think it’s going to be super useful but I’m hoping it shakes things up a little.
As for why they operate during business hours it’s simple, the bulk of the money they make revolves around business to business deliveries. You’re getting a tiny laptop that costs nothing to send, I’m getting a dozen heavy ass electric motors. Not only am I getting them more money but it’s a way bigger pain for them to store my stuff overnight. The personal shipments are growing but the amount of people shipping to work addresses instead of home grows too.
Yea, considering I see courier vans every day in the suburbs, I always forget most of their business comes from other businesses… tho I’d say the amount of people shipping to work addresses is driven by their available delivery times more than anything.
DHL’s site says their depot’s open ’til 7pm, which makes getting there after work a close call (I finish at 6 and no car), so will probably take a morning off and organise delivery for then. Will probably go pick up the Fedex one on a Saturday, tho – their depot’s pretty close to St Peters station, so not too far out of the way.
My answer for this was always to get anything that came via DHL sent to work, At least one receptionist would be there 8:30-5:30 and they knew to deliver in normal hours because it was a business.
Here, UPS is king because they deliver Saturdays and you can pay them a bit extra to schedule a delivery window too. FedEx can theoretically do that as well but most of the time they won’t let you, but you can redirect their deliveries to a FedEx location to pick it up, and the FedEx locations are in basically every suburb and are open basically 6am to 10pm most days.
This is why so much of my stuff gets delivered to work…
I keep forgetting how good Dream Theater are.
And then I listen to them again, and remember.
Every time I listen to the count of Tuscany and get to the breakdown after the bridge, I have to stop whatever I am doing, just close my eyes, and listen.
I haven’t listened to any of their stuff since Portnoy left, but these guys will always be one of the best bands of all time.
I Did It!
Finally finished a Souls game. Demon’s Souls never really clicked at the time, my arthritic hands screwed up during both Dark Souls & Bloodborne so I couldn’t remember how to play when I finally got back to them and I never ended up getting Dark Souls 2 but damnit, I FINISHED 3!
Woo! Congrats!
I can’t decide if the comments of that GoT/Foxtel article are a shitshow or if it’s just a small number of ‘moral’ voices trying to clamour against everyone who agree’s with Mark.
In other GoT news I just watched episode 8 of season 5 last night – some tense viewing in there.
It seems to be Gizmodo and Kotaku audiences clashing. The Gizmodo crowd seem like nice enough people but I’ve noticed they often have really strong black and white opinions when it comes to rules. If there isn’t a blanket rule there needs to be one, and if there’s already a rule it has to be followed. Maybe it’s just the topics that the articles with crossovers cover drawing those opinions out but it’s always a bit weird since I’m used to Kotaku’s comments which have a wider range.
It reminds me of the old message board days when you’d go somewhere that had a lot of people who were caught up on protocol and rules. You’d say something totally inoffensive and get pulled up with a warning for using a common slang term because one of the forum rules is ‘don’t use internet slang like 1337speak’. Someone would post a question with bad grammar and everyone would jump at the chance to lecture them rather than just answering the question. It was always really a really strange experience for someone like me who thinks in a way that’s not exactly neat and tidy.
I used a sanitary pad analogy. Figured it would make them feel uncomfortable =P
Because here on Kotaku we’re all so cool and comfortable with the tampon talk. =P
The thing that bugs me about the ‘oh, it’s no big deal if you wait’ stuff is that the people making the shows AND Foxtel disagree with that line of thinking. Forget weeks and months, imagine what would happen if people stopped talking about Game of Thrones the next day. That’s like HBO’s nightmare scenario. Foxtel would shit their pants because they just spent a boat load of money on a show nobody is talking about. Foxtel pay enough for the show to get exclusive rights specifically because it has a shelf life that demands viewers watch it right away.
It doesn’t matter that it’s a luxury item because the manufacturers, distributors and consumers seem to agree that while there is lasting appeal to the product there is also a significant element that needs to be consumed as soon as possible.
Argh. I have to steer clear of that article from now on because I’m just going to end up in a ranting loop. If I bring up how Foxtel screwed the market so badly that most people would rather go without than support Foxtel I’m going to end up losing a week of my life to this article.
So far no responses, so well, maybe it worked? =P
I’m in the mindset of fuck ’em. The IP will get the money eventually when the shit becomes available.
When you compare Australia to the rest of the world, we’re the only backwards country that doesn’t really have anything other then foxtel, pirate or fuck you, don’t watch it.
Ugh, why did I read, why did I comment, what the fuck is wrong with me.
Lawful Neutral. The kind of people I can’t really understand. I got into a really, really, reaaaally long piracy argument with a RL friend once, and EVENTUALLY we were able to reduce terms down to the fact that they genuinely believed that following the law is the only morally sound choice, and that all laws are morally sound. Even bad laws. Discriminatory laws. Law = Good in their eyes.
Which just boggles my mind. He’s gay. I had to ask him if it was ethically, morally wrong for gay men to have had sex even… a couple decades ago. He couldn’t quite resolve that one. The closest he could get was that societal standards have changed and that laws always change to keep up with them.
So yeah. We can’t see eye to eye for that one fact. He genuinely believes that there are no shades of grey, that all laws are good. Even ones that allow exploitation, abuse, tax evasion, whatever. I, on the other hand, believe that EVERYTHING is a different shade of grey. For fuck’s sake, it’s BUILT IN TO THE LEGAL SYSTEM. It’s called judicial discretion.
…And I happen to know for a fact that he often does 10% over the speed limit.
I just used a similar argument.
I’m also not taking it too seriously.
It’s a shitshow of 90% of everyone including both sides completely missing the point of what he was saying.
FUCKING TUTORIALS MISSING STEPS. ALWAYS.
Trying to follow this, but it doesn’t cover the part about configuring the compiler. And most stuff I’ve turned up on google so far amounts to basically “do [this] and it just works”. Except it doesn’t.
I hate computers. Into the bin, all of ’em.
Ffs. Went and found another installer with mingw included, thought ok whatever, I’ll just reinstall the whole thing. Suddenly it’s working. Even though it’s still pointing at my old mingw directory, not the one that was just added. The same one that wasn’t working five minutes ago.
Fuck computers.
My theory is that tutorial writers don’t know how compilers work and thus intentionally skip that step. I’ve never known one to work out the box but every tutorial, even the ones specifically about setting up the software, avoids the topic. I seriously think the majority of programmers voodoo their way through it once and then refuse to switch software for the rest of their career.
Can confirm, this is exactly what I’ve done through to this point.
Last week when I wasn’t feeling so sick, I made this
http://www.redbubble.com/people/luckydog/works/21641011-pulsefire-ezreal?ref=recent-owner
Also, I’m considering getting the WiiU and 3DS bundle, but if I do, I already own Rhythm Thief. Would someone else be willing to take it?
@cffndncr So consensus for the new Hearthstone pack states that the Boogeymonster and Nat the Dark Fisher are the two worst legendaries ever. Guess what 2 legendaries I managed to get in my pre-order of 50 packs =,= !@%!@#@%$@!#@ screw you RNG :@
I’d rate Dark Fisher as better than Hemet Nesingwary. The stats are great for a 2-drop, and he’ll easily fit into any mill decks.
Boogeymonster is pretty garbage, but they would easily make it much better if they took off the ‘attack’ part of it’s skill. Give it taunt and you’re basically immune to any late-game sudden zoo strats.
I hate mill decks and given his 50% RNG makes him less reliable that other mill options like coldlight into gang up =[ Stupid card design =@ Actually looking at all the legendaries I’d only want half or less of them. Got Malkorok earlier today and de’d him as well. I swear next I’ll end up getting Anomalus.
How you finding the new xpac?
Mill decks tend to get punished by zoo though, so I can see there being a place for a card that can pick off a few low-value cards in the early game while still (hopefully) contributing to the mill strat.
As to playing… I quit. Haven’t played in months… but I have been watching streamers figure out the new cards. I can see this as being one of those games that I hate playing but love watching, which is fine – given how many times I nearly cracked my phone when RNGesus turned his back on me, I really have no desire to start playing again.
I got a couple of decent legendaries.
Got a gold one of the Warrior legendary, got a shaman one that makes damage spells also heal you.
You mean Varian? I got a gold one of him a while back, which I promptly dusted so I could build Dr. 7…
… who I can’t use anymore. 5/7 would play again.
No, was a new shaman one. Hallazeal the Ascended.
I have officially renamed that legendary “Allzaheal”. Which I think is more fitting yes?
So you got a golden copy of Malkorok, man I thought I had bad RNG =P I’m fine tuning a druid Fandral/C’thun deck atm. Might kick out the Fandral concept depending on how it tracks but man I am sorely feeling the lack of FoN and Mulch. There’s very few decent hard removals Druids have left so I’ve actually taken to running a doomsayer and 2 BGH’s. I imagine rogues are going to have the same problem now that blade flurry has been nerfed to the ground.
Also @highperformance how you finding the new xpac?
Looking at the replies from @thecracks and @cffndncr, it would seem I don’t really play this game properly lol.
a) I couldn’t tell you if I picked up a legendary or not, except for maybe one? I couldn’t tell you from what class, might be a druid.
b) I have no idea what a Mill deck is.
I’m rank 16 at the moment with only two additions to my Summon Stone Priest deck, the 2×0 Mana Forbidden shaping (Spend all Mana and summon a minion of the same cost).
My deck looks like this:
1×0 Circle of Healing2×0 Forbidden Shaping
1×1 Holy Smite
2×1 Inner Fire
1xPower Word: Shield
2×1 Northshire Cleric
1×2 Resurrect
2×2 Shadword: Pain
1×2 Museum Curator
2×2 Wild Pyromancer
2×3 Shadoword Death
1×3 Harvest Golem
1×3 Shadowfiend
1×4 Shadow Madness
1×4 Auchenai
1×5 Excavated Evil
2×5 Holy Nova
2×5 Summoning Stone
1×6 Entomb
Looking at it, there’s a lot board clearing there lol. Usually my strategy is to try keep the board clear so that in turn 5-7 I can play a Summoning Stone and flood the board with minions. There’s probably a few un-optimal choices in there, like Shadowfiend and Resurrect but I find I don’t see them much in the meta and try keep it alive long enough to reduce the mana of a spell or two before I can go to town with a Summoning Stone minion spree lol.
Hmmm… I always like the concept of shadow fiend, but could never seem to get it to pay off in a game.
I’d suggest swapping it out for an Emperor Thaurissan, since you’re playing a pretty control-y deck.
@cffndncr I at least know what a control deck is haha.
@highperformance haha yeah, I only figured out the lingo when I started watching HS streams. Mill decks are ones where your win condition is forcing the other guy to draw as many cards as possible. You want to do big bursts of card draw (like multiple coldlight oracles in a single turn with Brann in play) so you force him to burn a bunch of cards. You basically want a deck that makes him draws a lot of cards, with alot of board clears and removals, and you win when he has no cards left and no way to kill you.
It’s a really high risk / high reward deck style, and it can be impossible to win if you don’t draw your own combos, but it is easily the most troll-y deck you can win with, and every time you win you can feel the frustration coming from your opponent.
Some very odd choices indeed, I understand the gist of your deck but feel like you’re doing a few things that don’t synergize? I would run 2 Auchenai’s with 2 Circles plus flash heal plus Darkshire alchemist maximing your combo potential while simulaneously doubling down on your cheap spells for stone combo. I would also include divine spirit which will synergize well with almost all the cards you run (i.e. they’re hp heavy) and acts as another cheap spell for summoning stone. As cffn pointed emperor would be a great addition as the stone summons minions at base cost not the discounted cost.
Take a second look at – Excavated Evil, Shadow madness, shadowfiend, museum curator, holy smite (you’re already running 2 pains, and if you decide to run 2 auchenai’s you’ll always have damage in the form of healing to use). With whispers of the old gods out also worth running a BGH.
With shadowfiend the 3 mana spot is where a lot of damage dealing spells get unlocked for almost all classes so you’ll be playing against the odds hoping to gain value from it. And given it’s effect most people would consider it a threat and look to wipe it out (which at 3hp is quite do-able).
Mill decks are decks who’s basic win condition is to make you run out of cards, they’re found in a lot of TCG’s (some will make you lose the moment you have no more cards) in HS once you start taking 10 damage a turn from card fatigue I believe either someone loses or its a draw. Rogues, Druids and Warriors are really the only decks that make this archetype work, Mill druid is less of a thing now that we lost GvG and Naxx.
You’re right, I have a high level thought of how I want the deck to play but I’m lacking detail on how I make it a reality more often lol.
I DEFINITELY have 2xDivine spirits in this deck, reason being turn 7 I can sometimes pull off a 0/12 summoning stone and a 2 mana minion: hopefully on turn 8 if it hasn’t been removed, I can buff again with Divine Spirit + Inner Fire and do 24 damage which is pretty ridiculous sometimes lol.
I’ll definitely make a 2nd version of my current deck and try it out in casual lol.
Thanks @cffndncr & @pupp3tmast3r!
Edit: Would you run a Shadowform as well for another pain?
Because of HS’s limited deck size you don’t want to run multiple win conditions, in your instance shadowform priest is actually a win condition and a specific deck (not very effective imo). Your biggest synergies for your deck come from high hp minions who all benefit from your ability to heal, using shadowform nerfs that synergy. Auchenai might nerf that synergy but it a 4 mana 5 hp minion that will almost always only last 1-2 turns because your enemy won’t like leaving it alive for combos. With your deck focus on the divine spirit + inner fire synergy like you’re already doing, use your high hp minions to drag the game out until you’re ready to combo with stone or forbidden shaping, and you’re biggest strength is your ability to drag the game out or quickly burst it down. You control the tempo, meaning your opponent is forced to be the aggressor until you’re ready to win. Remember with flash heal + 2 darkshire alchemists + 1 auchenai on the board you have 20 burst damage just in spells and effects at 10 mana. So you have a few combo potentials with those changes, focus on synergizing a bit more and if you find the meta changing as you rank up start packing some utility cards like harrison jones, doomsayers, or even acolytes of pain.
Edit: Also sidenote, mill decks do very well against control decks, due to their slow start they almost always have close to full hands, and mill decks can usually run their combo 2-3 turns before a control deck starts dishing out threats.
What kind of class are you using?? Some of the paladin cards excite me.
Just finished fine tuning a fandral/cthun druid last week, managed to get 5 consecutive wins with him, working on a taunt/cthun warrior this week hoping to get some synergy with bolster with the new warrior taunt card (bloodhoof brave I think?).
I’m still keeping my Dr 7, I use Tavern brawls to farm all my quests and these old xpacs are going to become rarer and rarer in that mode. It’s actually a good thing for ranked that they brought out this phasing as it keeps the game fresh, however its a horrible thing for my wallet =,=. That said as a reference I spent 50 bucks pre-ordering and just from stockpiling dust from daily quests for 3 months and spares from the pack I have 90% of the cards I want. There’s only 1 more legendary (yogg-sarron) and 4 epic cards I would consider crafting.
It really is one of those slow grind games though, play 4-5 times a day and you’ll stay up to date at a fairly low cost, play a lot here and there and you’ll be paying 2-3 times more.
Got a Yogg-Saron in a random pack yesterday ^_^
Well, JB had 35% off Cartoon Network DVD and Blu-rays, so I bought Season 1 of Adventure Time on Blu-ray.
@freezespreston @thecracks & anyone else interested:
So, TAY Japan 2: Return of the TAY. Are there any things that you’d really like to do / do again or really not like to do? Thinking it would be good to have a rough idea what we want to do so as to figure out a timeframe etc.
Personally, aside from ALL THE FOOD, I’d like to visit the Ghibli Museum this time around. There’s a few places in Kyoto I didn’t get to go to yet, so probably there too. Perfectly happy not to do Hiroshima again and I don’t mind skipping Himeji (but would do a day trip from Tokyo to see Matsumoto castle).
In terms of other places, one option might be to spend a day or two on Kyushu. Could visit Kumamoto (assuming it’s back on its feet after the earthquakes there a couple weeks ago), Nagasaki or Kagoshima, and from Kagoshima you could get out to the outlying islands – Yakushima has a rad old-growth forest that was the inspiration for Princess Mononoke (do a Google Image Search for it!), and right by it is Tanegashima where JAXA’s spaceport is. Just an option though, depends on interest.
I have never been to Japan. I would like to go to Japan and do anything. Sign me up
I feel like we’d need to spend some time in Kyoto and Tokyo at least then. Though that’d probably be on the cards anyway.
FOOD FOOD NIKU FOOD ALL THE FOO– oh. You said apart from that.
Well shit. I got nothing. I’m really, really about the food. Drinking, maybe?
As fascinating as it was to see the broad spectrum of I’d like to spend less time travelling, more time in city centres, exploring. Exploring the cities was my favourite thing about Japan. Like… getting myself really good and lost.
Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto would be my big picks.
I take it you’re also interested a return?
I’d be cool with a bit more time in the major cities, though I stayed in Tokyo longer than you guys and I’m not the adventurous outgoing type so kind of felt like I was done by the end. Spent the last day there reading manga and watching baseball on TV in my hotel room.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with spending a day watching foreign TV in a hotel room. In fact, I believe it is an essential tourist activity. You can learn a lot about a country from its TV.
I was really groking the language by that point too.
Lost it the instant I got home 🙁
Right? Imagine if you lived there for six months. 🙂
Nah man, it’s all about the food. Well after watching Harley Morensteins Japan vlogs from when Epic Meal Time went there recently, that’s all I got from it. It also looked like a pretty awesome country.
Yeah, I’d only really be interested in going back to live there for 6 months to a year or something.
Experience what it’s really like day to day. Work with the people, learn the language, commute on their awesome public transport. Eat at tiny ramen stalls and have a beer at random bars after work. Watch TV. Get lost until you’re not lost anymore.
Done enough touristy stuff I think.
Yeah, shrines and temples and gardens are pretty enough, but you really need the bustle of civilization as a base-line to put them in a context where you can really appreciate them.
My favourite times were roaming around looking for little hole-in-the-wall places to eat or booze. And there were so many. I could do that for six months living there, just eating at new places, and not exhaust even an area more than a couple blocks from where we were staying.
Indeed.
If it wouldn’t mean giving up my current cruisey, stress free job I’d actually consider it.
But I don’t think the quality of life hit once I return and have to find something else will be worth it.
Yeah. I’m fairly lucky in that if I could actually find a job to pay the bills while I was over there, I could actually take six months leave without pay and still have a job waiting for me when I got back.
If it was going over there without a job to support me there, I’d probably only be able to get away with three months.
…I am very seriously considering that, now. Think I’d need some marketable skill, though. Japan is notoriously strict on work visas.
I came very close to applying to join the Microsoft Office team in Japan. It’d be rad I think. Trouble is I don’t know if I’d want it to be permanent and it kind of lacks a viable exit strategy.
I would balloon up to the size of the kid (Violet) who ate Willy Wonka’s experimental blueberry pie chewing gum.
From what I’ve heard from friends that have worked there, it’s a shitty, shitty place to work unless you’re working for a foreign company that has foreign company expectations in terms of overtime etc.
Otherwise you’re in a rigidly hierarchical structure with a billion levels of middle management above you and are expected to be there 8 till 8 and work Saturdays.
Honestly I’ve always found the best holidays I’ve had have been incredibly loosely planned, general cities and days but not really any further and winging it each day as far as what you’re doing.
That’s how we did Europe. In the end we cut out an extra country and stayed in the stop over city of Munich and was some of the best time of the trip.
I am down for anything and everything.
Especially if I get a snowboarding day 😛
Also, regarding timing, I am not sure I’d be able to easily get time off work, a January trip would be amazing due to school holidays 😛
If not feasible for the group, so be it. Go with what’s best for most.
Also, I would be down for the Ghibli Museum.
You do need to buy tickets in advance, though. Probably months in advance.
Woo Iron Maiden Beer is hosting a before & after gig event at a pub near the entertainment centre in Brisbane day of Iron Maidens gig. Finally be able to drink more of their Trooper beer, which needs to be available here in Australia dang it.
So as I mentioned last week my employer was going to see what they could do to retain me on the downlow since they can’t formally give me the promotion that I’ve deserved for some time. Turns out I’m getting a raise. A pretty good one. It’s a little more than half as much as I would have gotten if I accepted the role I interviewed for, but I don’t have to change companies, go through probation, learn new systems or really take any risks whatsoever. I’ll still get promoted when management is allowed to give people the positions they were promised. And I get to stay with a company that 95% of the time is a pretty good place to work. I’m pretty content with that. Above everything else, I feel like I got heard.
Grats man!
Sounds like a decent middle ground result
Things are looking up! 🙂
That is great news! It can be so frustrating when it feels like your hard work is ignored
I read that as “I feel like I got hard” and was all like, well, okay then. Must have been a really good raise.
Heh. Good raise. Heh.
Hmm, just got an email from JB with a 25% off coupon for selected TV shows on DVD & Blu-Ray. Could pick up the entire series of Boardwalk Empire for $112 on Blu-Ray, which is quite tempting to be honest.
Me: I notice you’ve sent through a claim against Company ABC under the policy number for Company XYZ. ABC isn’t part of XYZ and I don’t think we even insure ABC. Can you give me the correct policy number?
Broker: Well you see, we are the broker for XYZ. We recently inherited the account for ABC from another broker.
Me: I don’t follow.
Broker: I was told to notify you of the claim for ABC under the policy for Company XYZ, as we are now the broker for both.
Me: But those companies are completely unrelated. We don’t insure ABC and they aren’t part of XYZ or otherwise noted in their policy.
Broker: We are broker for both though.
Me: I don’t see how that affects us.
Broker: …let me call the account manager and come back to you.
Me: Please.
Reminds me of the guy who demanded we provide his telstra modem password because we hosted his website that he accessed via the modem so we had to have it.
So if I put my keys on an Invader Zim keyring, Jhonen Vasquez is responsible for finding them when they go missing?
But that is shown on Nickelodeon which is on foxtel so I think you have to call Rupert Murdoch directly
Sounds like someone doing what they’te told while just as confused as you were.
More ragevent:
Trying to figure out how to get Code Blocks to put the required dlls into the output directory so the program can run after you build it, but so far all the advice I can find amounts to “just do the thing”. HOW DO I DO THE THING??
I did find another slightly more helpful answer that had a template project that was supposed to be set up to do the thing, yet it does not appear to be doing said thing. The applicable line seems to be XCOPY $(#sdl2)\bin\*.dll $(TARGET_OUTPUT_DIR) /D /Y, but I can’t seem to find anything explaining that either.
Reiterating the thing Dogman was talking about, where tutorial writers are all just a pack of dicks.
Thank christ, managed to figure it out. I hate this.
So, soundtracks. Do you guys listen to them?
I’ve never really been a fan. Generally I find them to be pretty dull, they’ll pick music that (hopefully) works really well for whatever scene/set-piece you’re playing/watching, but as an actual album they don’t work nearly as well.
I do have two exceptions. The soundtracks to Tron: Legacy and Transistor are both fantastic, and the only ones I have listened to outside of the movie / game.
Some, not all. I regularly listen to Contagion, Miirror’s Edge, The Knick, and occasionally The Social Network, but they’re not standard orchestral soundtracks.
Not really but I make an exception for disney musicals.
I don’t really listen to music outside of my car, so I’m already in limited/weird usecase territory.
But the two de Blob soundtracks are fantastic and totally standalone, also F-Zero X Guitar Arrange Edition. Those always get regular run-throughs. Occasionally House of the Dead: Overkill too.
I bought a tonne of soundtracks when I was in Japan, kind of “just because”/they were there and unusual and decently priced. More as collectibles than anything though.
Nah, I rarely listen to music other than in my car too.
How often do you drive? I basically only do the one return trip per week, unless I need to duck out to the shops for something. Enough to get through maybe 1.5-2 albums 😛
It varies between a half hour commute each way to 4+ hours worth of driving, 5 days a week.
So probably more than most.
I have to recommend the original How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack, it’s just fantastic.
I don’t really go for movie soundtracks. I’ll listen to particular songs that I liked but I don’t think I’ll ever go for a full soundtrack.
My only real game soundtrack that I’ve listed to is some of the Project X Zone stuff, although that’s cheating a little bit considering it’s basically a collection of theme songs from various games. I do recall listening to a bunch of the Hotline Miami songs as well. If the music is catchy enough, I’ll find the track and listen to it again.
I have 4 soundtracks on my iTunes account: The Force Awakens and Skyrim are orchestral, while Scott Pilgrim and Sucker Punch are made up of different songs. I like them all for different reasons, and often find myself listening to Scott Pilgrim as it has some great songs.
I love both the Scott Pilgrim movie soundtrack and the game soundtrack.
The movie soundtrack has some awesome songs on it, gets a regular play.
The game soundtrack has some exceptional chiptune music from Anamanaguchi. One of them is my phone’s ringtone.
I love the 8 bit version of Threshold. So many great songs on the movie soundtrack, the only I don’t like is Under My Thumb, but it fits nicely with the theme, just the lyrics give me the creeps.
My middle brother loves the shit out of soundtracks – musicals, especially.
I can’t stand them. I find them boring as hell at best, irritating at worst. This effect is multiplied several times over if I haven’t actually seen the source material and thus have no fond memories to associate with them.
‘Let it Go’ for example. I spent months wondering why the fuck anyone felt ANYTHING for that song.
That said? There are some soundtracks that when I hear them, I immediately want to download the song to listen to. There’s a couple from Hotline Miami, Total Annihilation, Transistor, damn near EVERYTHING in Bastion, a couple Halo tracks, a few Command and Conquer really stand up on their own, a couple Borderlands, a couple Mass Effect… Hitman, AC, Witcher 3, (True Crime, GTA, VtM: Bloodlines don’t really count given that it’s existing, licenced music), Mirror’s Edge, Quake, TSW, WoW, Mirror’s Edge, Max Payne 3. There’s heaps of games with one or two tracks that are worth adding to the overall library, dotted in among all the metal, trip-hop, glitch-hop, etc.
Full albums on their own are rarely worth it for stand-alone listening, to me. I find I skip just about everything, shorn of its in-game scene impact, and only a handful of melodic pieces are worth listening to as songs, not just accompaniment.
I’ve seen Frozen. I still don’t get Let it Go.
On the other hand…Everything is Awesome.
Bastion soundtrack is God-tier.
I’ve never liked them. So nope. Unless you count The Heroin Diaries which tied in with the book of the same name by Nikki Sixx.
I feel like I might have some kind of a scratch on my eye, or something like that. There’s this small faint grey line maybe 3º off from my point of vision in my left eye which I see while scanning across the empty white of webpages. It doesn’t seem to be moving from that position though, unlike the usual pieces of dust or whatever. Annoying.
You can get tiny scars on your retina. Fun fact.
Yeah, but it’s really easy to get retina repaired/replaced. Depending on who you go with it can be fairly expensive…like, I think it costs the most if you go directly via Apple support.
*runs*
I have imperfections in my eyeball that show up as a few lines and a small cluster of dots every now and again when my brain feels like processing it.
I thought it might be a scratch or something until I went to an optometrist who explained it to me. Supposedly fairly common defect but less common to actually process it.
Edit: It goes on the list alongside all those high pitched ringing noises that I get whenever it’s quiet. The list being ‘shit that was explained to me as an adult that would have been handy to know 20 years ago so I wouldn’t have just figured myself to be crazy the whole time I was growing up’
Is the cluster of dots kind of like little bubbles? I get that from time to time, I think my vitreous jelly is slightly carbonated from all the soft drink I have
Sorta just like little black splotches.
I haven’t seen them for a while but after you asked, I stared at a wall for about 10 seconds, concentrated and they came into view.
I swear that an optometrist confirmed that I’m not crazy. On this point at least.
Congratulations! Welcome this new reminder of your mortality and the fact that you will only continue to irreversibly deteriorate.
I think it ends with the red words YOU DIED
Eye floater. Basically your eye’s full, of fluid and a bit of it congealed. They develop periodically, sometimes go away. Your brain can usually tune them out.
The fact that eyes evolved underwater fucked us up forever as land animals. We’ll never have the visual acuity possible for fish. 🙁
Do they usually stay in the one spot over the course of days though? I thought floaters were the ones that move around and stuff.
They can stay or they can move.
If you’re worried, go see an optometrist. If you haven’t been in the last couple of years it’s 100% covered by Medicare.
It feels weird when you think that an Allure staff member have just given you a stern talking to
@liondrive I almost forgot…. but why were you in the news?!?! :@ =O
Check his posting history, he gave the full break down a while back
Can confirm, story is worth digging out.
Best story, 10/10 would watch again lol
Worst people…
Ah, g’wan. It comes from a place of schadenfreude… er. I mean love. It comes from a place of love.
Cap3 was pretty great.
Just as a heads-up, there’s a post-credits scene after the initial credits and another one after the rest of the credits. Not sure if that one’s overly worth hanging around for though.
Cap 3? Are you talking about Iron Man 4? Er… five? Six?
Nah, Black Panther Zero :p
http://mikatan.goodsmile.info/en/2016/04/28/nendoroid-captain-america-heros-edition/ Cutest Cap?
@jordi would dock points for lack of butt shots. But he is rather cute, with his oh so serious face
Good morning everyone.
I’m sorry I haven’t been on that much. I was pretty sick the last week.
…plus you were doing a sterling job in the nightmare “Serrels Is A Terrible Person For Wanting To Watch Game Of Thrones At More Than 480p” thread. 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better?
I stopped giving a shit pretty quickly and decided to have fun with it =P
With the use of the world sterling, I though it had something to do with archer.
I am feeling better. I had about 3 days of runny nose and sneezing. That had stopped and i have my appetite back
I noticed. 🙂
HAHA! No, but I can see how that happened…
…and good. There seem to be plenty of colds doing the rounds. Glad you’re over yours.
Not completely over it, but feeling better. My nose is flaky from the nasal abuse
Ah yes. When the softest tissue feels like coarse grit sandpaper. 🙁
I was lucky to avoid that sensation somehow. this time anyway

So, what are you lot up to this weekend?
I’m at a board game day tomorrow, and a Magic day on Sunday. ALL THE GAMES
God I have no idea. So bored now I’ve finished DS3.
I could try a level 1 run but I don’t want to end up dropping it partway through in a really hard area to go play Stellaris or something because then I’ll never go back and finish it.
Working tomorrow
Sunday doing a catchup with some friends and seeing the newest bub. Let the kids have a run around at a playground we haven’t checkout out yet.
Probably see if I can finish the final boss battle in alice
Finding a new playground is always fun. There’s one that I’ve been meaning to visit for a while that’s a bit out of our way, but looks extremely fun (there’s water play and heaps of rope stuff to climb)
Working tomorrow morning, then taking Mum & Dad out for lunch.
That’s nice, where are you taking them?
Boss Burger Co. in Geelong West.
Dear Friends of Tay.
Time for some of my patented window into my life.
Apologies for the length of this post in advance (spoilered for length).
First of all a precursor.
As some of you might know, my life took an odd turn 3 years ago with Pixel-Waifu being diagnosed with severe panic disorder, anxiety and depression.
She was (and still are) unable to keep a job due to this.
We lost half of our monthly income, which means we could no longer afford our means of living and thought it a good idea at the time to move in with my 2 brother-in-laws who also live in Melbourne (MISTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!)
Following this, i struggled with coping with the new living circumstances, having lost our previously comfortable lifestyle and now all privacy of our relationship due to living with family.
This caused me to spiral into depression myself which went to some dark fucking places.
Thoughts of worthlessness, self-harm and suicide was an almost every day occurrence for many months but i won’t go there because thats too grim… Safe to say that if some of the things that occurred in that time was successful I would not be here writing this.
I felt out of control, didn’t know where my life was headed and why… My mind was constantly struggling to find a variable i could be in control of. After a while, it settled on that the road to happiness was a new job/career.
I went to a few (unsuccessful) interviews, and decided to commit myself to joining the defence force (of which i also chickened out of).
I started going to the psychologist and she helped me realise quite a few things and gave me some coping mechanisms. Thanks to my (failed) attempt at getting ready for the Defence force, i found the power of exercise and in particular my new found love for running. This helped me greatly with coping, but it was all a band-aid solution to the overall problem;
At some point in that time, Pixel-Waifu and I realised that living with my brother-in-laws actually had no fiscal benefits for us what so ever. Their lifestyle, where money was of no concern, did not really gel well with ours… Grocery bills were ludicrous, the amount of electricity/water and other things were consumed was through the roof and because everything was split 4 ways (with the missus and me accounting for 50% of it) it really did not matter whether we lived alone or with them.
Now we’ve finally scraped together enough money to move back out, and as of 4 weeks ago, we finally made the move… And HOOOO BOI has it made a hell of a difference. My mind is improving every day (still can drop back into the old familiar feeling but i’m recovering a lot quicker) and i actually have drive and motivation to do well in all aspects of my life.
I’ve realised that i really wasn’t unhappy at work, i was just unhappy. I’ve advised work of all of this (which has been quite supportive and overbearing with my demeanor) and they are happy to assist me with getting back on track.
So why am I telling you all of this?
1 – I think i needed to write this down, to fully understand myself what has been going on and where things went wrong.
I guess i now understand why people keep blogs.
Actually, i’ve re-written and deleted this post 5 times now, because it seems like such a pitiful thing on paper and my first go to thought is: “Get over it” so if you reached the same conclusion, I really don’t blame you!
2 – I feel that in the past 3 years, i’ve been a dick and pushed some people whom i care about away. To those people, I am deeply sorry and i hope they can find it in themselves to forgive me.
3 – I wanted to express my deep and sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who has helped me, big or small, over the past few years. Special shout outs to @scree, @rize, @cakesmith, @sernobulus, @blaghman, @rocketman and @freezespreston for putting up with my shit, being there for me to talk to, being crazily generous, and HUGS!
If it wasn’t for you guys, even just including me in games and engaging with me socially, there’s a good chance i wouldn’t be here… So seriously, thank you!
I realise that TAY is less busy now a days, with people being busy with work, families and general adulthood, but there’s still plenty of activity behind the curtains and this is still the best god-damn community/family I could ever ask for.
TL;DR ignore this, life is good and PIXEL IS BACK IN ACTION \o/
HOOOOO BOI that turned out a hell of a lot longer than i intended… Sorry about that XD
How dare you write long, meaningful things that everyone cares about you with?
I am so glad you are feeling better. You and Ebony deserve to be happy (although you and I both know that Ebony would suggest happiness is another dog).
That voice that is telling you to just “get over it” is the illness trying to make you feel bad. Tell it to fuck off.
I know right? I’m literally the worst XD
As I said above, I think half the motivation for the above wall of text was just to get it written down and out in the open so I could even comprehend what had happened… And yes the little voice is always there but he can fuck right off 😛
Whatever makes you feel better =D we all support you
One more thing. You may not realise it but we genuinely like you for who you are. You’re probably wondering why and I could tell you, but you’ll find it difficult to accept. I say this because I sure as hell don’t know why people are friends with me. They tell me, but I don’t really get it.
We like you and we want to help you through all your problems. We are interested in how you feel and we will not judge you negatively. Hell, you could come on here saying you killed a person and we’d rally behind you.
Keep exercising too. It’s good for your mental health. It’s a natural anti-depressant, but don’t feel bad if you do eventually need tablets, it’s not a bad thing.
Another thing, you may feel unmanly telling us all this. Do not worry, everyone looks manly next to @blaghman =P
I never thought I’d see the day where scree tells someone else off for apologizing for no reason….. My life is now complete.
Sorry =(
The story of a bunch of really good, healthy realizations. Thumbs up for uplifting. 10/10 Would read again.
It was certainly a… Character building time… While I look back at it and despise all that time wasted, I feel like I’ve also learned a hell of a lot I otherwise wouldn’t have. So while it sucked, i’ve become much wiser and a better person for it… At least that’s what i like to believe 😛
There is definitely something to be said about adversity – it sucks at the time but it will always change your perspective on life and realise what’s important. If life was always easy and happy, we’d never find out how strong we can be, or appreciate true happy moments.
It’s why I try to avoid posting bullshit “inspirational” sayings that amount to “Be Happy All The Time Or Else”.
The fact is that life is up AND down, and all you can do is go along for the ride, learn how to live through the downs and how to be grateful for the ups.
Hey man. Am sorry I haven’t got to see you IRL since the very abortive PAX effort, but thank you for sharing. Hope to catch up very soon, either in E:D (where I’m ticking along very nicely) or in Melbourne. 🙂
Yeah I meant to apologies for our meeting at PAX as well actually… PAX happened pretty much at the peak of everything being messed up, so i was very introverted and ended up being very awkward… So yeah, sorry for that!
I will definitely see you in E;D! I now have more time and motivation for that kind of thing plus i got a week off work coming with to celebrate our new found independence (and to celebrate my birthday :P)
That’s all cool – you’d alluded to things being a bit weird. Plus, I was meeting so many new people in a couple of days and having comms issues (and social anxiety FTW…), I don’t think I even noticed other than being disappointed I didn’t get to meet you sooner. 🙂
By Sunday, I was so frazzled I bumped into a FOAF who I follow online and had hoped to say hello to over the weekend, and had such a burst of shy that I smiled and walked off without saying a word… :/
So – I’m in TS most nights with either Mobius or E:D ANZ. And I’m always happy to meet up for an ale. So… birthday beer then? 🙂
Haha yeah I know that feeling, I often get frazzled meeting people because I never know what to freaking say XD
I’ll definitely be up for a brew at some point during the cause of the week, the day of my actual birthday I’m going out with time missus though, for some much needed hubby, wife time, but yeah! You guys still do that thing on Fridays I’ve intended to come up for months? XD
I’m usually around the CBD for a beer or two. Off to airport now but chat later and sort something out.
Glad you’re on the bounce back mate.
I’ve always found that the hardest thing with depression is pin-pointing the exact cause and each time I face it I find it can be incredibly elusive. Glad you managed to sort your cause out and worked out the best way to move forward, it’s all uphill from here =P
I hope this means we get to hear you laughing and seeing you smiling more, Pixel, which it looks like it does! Missed hanging out with ya, buddy!
I hope so too me friend! And yeah, we REALLY need to organise a TAY Melbourne Meat up again 😛 been too long!
*hugs*
Dude.
*hugs*
@blaghman I’m in Canberra later today for work – setting off for the airport in a bit – and have to stay overnight to manage some shit in the office tomorrow. Pint? 🙂 Short notice (I only found out Wednesday…) so no worries if you’re already planned up.
Haha, plans? Cute.
Sadly I’ve rather crippled my leg, so I don’t think I can actually go anywhere (not to mention that I’m so out of the drinking scene that I can’t even recommend a place to go), I wish you the best of luck in the glorious* nation’s capital, though.
*terrible
Hope the leg mends.
There’s a club (used to be the RUC, now it’s something else) pretty close to the office so I’ll prolly just go there and have a meal.
Yeah, my leg should be fine by tomorrow (had a “nocturnal leg cramp”), just can’t handle going places since I tend to walk and bus everywhere.
All good. Turns out they’re having Welcome Drinks in the office here for a new staff member, so at least I won’t be on my own from 5pm… 🙂
Woot! New laptop get! First thing Cortana asks me during setup: “Is this where you live?” and shows me a map of my home street (I’m at work). Well, I know how it got that information, but it’s still creepy as hell.
“Is this a picture of you sleeping?”
*boards up windows*
*considers for a moment…*
*nails boards over laptop’s webcam*
*throws laptop in cupboard*
*bricks up cupboard door*
*moves interstate*
“It’s so sweet you moved closer to me”
*Waits 100 years*
*Reincarnates*
*Studies Archaeology*
*Excavates old residential house*
*Finds laptop*
“Huh.”
“Yay! It’s Trikeabout! What do you need?”
…I use a Mac. No less creepy, to be fair. Just a bit less stalky.
That’s what I get for not reading it properly =P
Why has the conversation stopped? Let’s keep going!
Why should we?
Discuss.
Because I was bored and I didn’t want to be bored.
Oh are you the person not playing Dark Souls 3?
Fine, i see how it is.
So now I’m kinda doing commissions, for the shirts. I figure if I make things people want, then I’m more likely to earn money for printing up the bookmarks. If I just keep making crap I like, then I’ll only appeal to the same audience.
It also allows me to do things I may not do otherwise. Testing my boundaries a bit.
Still waiting on my limited edition Overwatch shirt!! =O =@
Keen for next week’s early access scree?
I don’t have early access. It sucks. =\
Did you pre-order? Because if yes then you have early access on the 2nd of May (probably 3rd of May for us in OZ land).
I don’t pre-order too much, mainly because I may not have enough money to buy it
That’s ok, I’ve pre-ordered and that means I get 2 early access keys, one for me and one to give away. Once I get the keys I’ll send my spare one to you via e-mail (think I already have your deets!)
Oh, thank you. I wasn’t expecting that at all.
Boom! Ninja gift! *makes ninja noises* =P
Uh, isn’t the point of Ninja’s to not make noises?
Whatever scree! Genji makes plenty of ninja noises!
So Sid has already broken 2 of his Mini soccer balls. They’re wahu ones and he likes to chew on them. Well, I said he has broken both, but he only broke one. His friend broke the other one.
This is the third one. I’m going to give it maybe 2 weeks before he breaks it.
That sounds like Chilli.. Every tennis ball, popped & the fur stripped off of it. I some how ended up with a bunch of those high bounce rubber tennis balls, she can’t pop those it’s quite amusing.
Sid is not usually a ball destroyer. He just really enjoyed chewing this ball. When it got the hole in it, it frightened the crap out of him because he’s never broken a ball before
Hahaha adorable derpyness there 😛
It was pretty amusing. He’s also scared of lifts.
Boss has a habit of stealing other dogs balls at the park and refusing to drop them. One type in particular is a favorite and several peeps there have them now so I got him one of his own.
But now he’s figured out how to cram two of them into his mouth at once :/
That’s like Sid’s life long dream. Putting two balls into his mouth. He’ll never do it though.
Does Boss drop the ball for treats?
Nope, he wised up to that. Same with a squeaker, throwing a second ball, and even sticking my finger down this gob.
He’s.. a stubborn fellow when it comes to his ball :p
Staffy but any chance?
Haha, yep.
Typical staffy behavious =P
I laughed.
I’m apparently mature enough to teach children…
As long as you’re more mature then them, it’s fine.
Oh, how bad was the end of Kabaneri of the iron fortress today? Bastard episode ended on a cliffhanger. It’s the worst D=
Ugh, that’s like everything I have to talk about D=
Hi Scree!
Hey Gooky. Would you be up for ranked multiplayer on splatoon sometime? I figure Gorzy isn’t always going to be up for it.
Oh and if anyone asks, I’m napping
Ranked? Sounds scary, I haven’t played in months upon months. Have the fixed the overkill E-Litre nerf yet? 😛
They tweaked it. Numbers and I are only B ranks anyway. Gorzy is C- and I have no idea what rank Eronin is
Hang on I was out at lunch. We went to a Sushi train
How dare you. You should obviously bring the sushi train to your desk!
I just imagined an actual ride on train that does work place sushi deliveries…
It’s just over the road, so I’m sure they could actually extend the train by 100m just for me.
Maybe a little bit further to just go in your mouth too?
Time for a nap then, eh?
I would talk more, alas it’s hard to TAY at work at the moment :\
Otherwise i’d be doing the good ol’ F5 refresh game.
That’s okay. I’ll play my own refresh game! (I’m alluding to the nap =P)
Christ @scree ‘s on a mission today huh =P
I’m just very talkative, okay?!
Scree just loves Page Six that much.
Page 6? Please we’re lucky to reach 3 or 4 =P
Once upon a time, we were disappointed if we didn’t reach page 18.
It’s good! we need to kickstart the ol’ TAY-Mobile!
I miss the random amazing conversations that sprouted from it!
@dc & @liondrive need to come along and make talk 😛
Or just show up on the news and we can have talks about their doings. =P
Yeah what was with that, I never heard what happened.. @liondrive you promised dang it!
Rofl @liondrive yeah you were supposed to tell us!! =P
P.S. see his posting history, he’s got a link to it in one of his newest posts.
Haha, classic @liondrive right there 😛
Page 4?
Dammit.
Almost!
I feel like that nap wasn’t satisfying enough. I want another one.
I probably won’t though. I have to vacuum
Hey @pixel_the_ferret_viking
Guess what I packed in my backpack to come to Canberra, given I’m sitting in an office by myself all day tomorrow with an internet connection but no desktop PCs…
Clue: rhymes with “cloyflick”.
Second guess… what I plan to be doing with my boring day….
I’m going to gueeesssss….
Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge!
You’re going to play Elite aren’t you?Can I have your job?
To be fair, I’d prefer to be at home on a weekend rather than watching servers slowly draining a UPS. 🙂
Sounds like the I.T version of watching paint dry 😛
Man, I suck at Shantae. I feel like I need to play a game I’m decent at. D=
Whee, beard trim!
First time I’ve seen a hairdresser in years. First time I’ve been to a salon or whatever in even more years 😛
Looks like it was a good thing I didn’t end up going to Bankstown to get it done.
http://arstechnica.com/the-multiverse/2016/04/the-wheel-of-time-turns-into-a-cutting-edge-tv-series/
I’m okay with this.
I’d say that has a 10% chance of being awesome, 20% ok and 70% terrible.
It really depends on who’s optioned it. If it’s Netflix or HBO or Amazon it has pretty good chance of them putting a lot of work into it and it turning out reasonable. If it’s Fox or something then it’ll probably be shit.
With Harriet in charge I think the chance of something turning out reasonable is a bit better, she seems to have been a good custodian so far. Made a great choice throwing it to Sanderson to finish too.
I just wish they’d unblock whatever the fuck is wrong that’s stopping Obsidian doing the RPG they were going to do in the setting.
Dammit @pupp3tmast3r
Ok, what are you up to in WoW? What Ilvl does heroic HFC need and is it easy to find groups?
I take it this was before our chat on sunday? 😛
Finally got around to going into the Ender Portal on PS4 Minecraft and me and my kids all got the platinum trophy at the same time. Yay us! It was their first.
Happy birthday @coldcamv !
Thank you! However your a day early haha 😛
So, turns out we have another new manager. I found out from someone in the grocery department of Woolies, one of the guys I work with found out from the Woolies manager, it seems the manager had no real intention of telling us.
Since this is the case i’m gonna have to have a chat to him about the roster. I really can’t do Wednesdays now, and would like to do just Monday evening, Thursday evening & Sunday in there since i’m doing every Friday & Saturday in nightfill now.
Well, after reading the Aldi Xbox article, I managed to pick up a second hand xbox 360 on Friday arvo, and I got Disney Infinity for the Wii U, as well.
Also, I may have purchased Diablo 3 on the 360. 🙂
Taaaaaaaaaaay! 😀
Who would do a bodiy shot off me, be honnensy.
More shiyr!
Bitch I’m art home 🙁
Aw man I missed drunk @liondrive dang it.
