World of Warcraft players, both lapsed and current. August 30. Thats’s the magic date.

That’s the date you’ll be able to play Legion, Blizzard’s sixth expansion for World of Warcraft.

It’s gonna cost $69.95 at retail or you can pre-order directly from Blizzard and get the opportunity to immediately boost one character to level 100.

You can sign up for the Beta here.

As per Blizzard’s press release, here’s what you can expect from Legion:

New Hero Class: Demon Hunter—Unleash the demon within as an all-new melee hero class gifted with preternatural mobility—and the ability to metamorphose into hellish new forms.

New Feature: Artifact Weapons—Smite the Legion with class-specific weapons of lore. Unlock abilities and traits, and customize your weapon to suit your needs.

New Continent: The Broken Isles—Discover the fate of a lost night elf civilization, confront twisted fragments of the Emerald Nightmare, and hunt agents of the Legion in all-new zones. Forge your own path through the Broken Isles as you explore content that dynamically scales to your level.

Boost to Level 100—Come fully prepared to battle the Legion with a level-100 character boost, and fight alongside your friends in this epic new chapter of World of Warcraft—available immediately upon pre-purchase†.

New Feature: Class Hall—Gather with fellow members of your class and unite followers of your order—including iconic characters from Warcraft lore—to carry out missions at your command.

New PvP Honor System—Fight for fame, glory, and a range of new PvP-specific powers as you face the opposing faction in Arenas and Battlegrounds.

Just when you thought you were out they pull you back in, etc.

  • I hope they implement more of the game into the garrison, it was getting pretty tedious having to leave it every 3 or 4 days to do a things.

    • From what I saw class order halls are basically a stripped down garrison setup, i.e. still have the missions but not as many and the farmville aspect’s been toned down a lot.

    • As far as I saw they are ditching the garrison systems for Order Halls basically a similar thing with less management/grinding and a way to get your artifact weapon/do some quests.

Am I the only one who hated Garrisons? and saw them as a massively wasted opportunity to regain some social aspects of the game.
I understand it was mainly a time sink but why not turn them into a guild run time sink.
Whole guilds could build/craft/grind their garrisions up ranks for the same rewards and even participate in raiding enemy guilds garrisons as a weekly event.

        • I don’t mind the garrison, it obviously didn’t live up to expectations though. On the other hand, the shipyard was complete junk.

          • I didn’t even try that properly, did the required missions to unlock it so I could go check out Tanaan and then never bothered again 😛

          • Junk how could you? What about Left Shark if it wasnt for the shipyard you wouldnt have it LOL.

    • I hope they let you manage the garrison from a browser. I really want to subscribe but i dont want to have to login all the time.

  • I hated the garrisons personally. It was an isolating game ruiner. One of the cool things about wow is the hustle and bustle of the major cities but in this you really weren’t encouraged to spend any time in the city.

      • They tried something new because a lot of people wanted player housing. It didn’t work out the way they (or we) hoped. These things happen.

        • Yeah, I think the problem is too many people wanting too many different things out of it. Personally I’d have been happy with something like Wildstar Housing – all sorts of crazy customisable shit but doesn’t really have an impact on ‘hardcore’ players.

  • God. 18 weeks and it looks like its only looks about half built at the moment. Bkizzard open betas are scarey to watch their build as we go process is frustrating to see… needs more work, but will 18 weeks be enough. No. Never. Week 1 bug and server issues… set your clock for mid September to have a working game.

  • I’ve been Wow cold turkey for 12 months now, the Demon hunters tempted me but that’s about it, more then likely WONT get it …… unless my friends are getting it again and drag me back (kicking and screaming) lol

  • Good to see a concrete release date. We were speculating about it just this past weekend on guild vent. One guy was convinced it would come out end of June to coincide with the movie release. Considering it’s usually 2-3 weeks of prepatch before launch and the expansion isn’t even in beta yet, it’s pretty safe to say that was a pipedream on his part.

    • im betting pre patch will come on either the 26 of july or 2nd of august, thats 4 weeks for everyone to do the demon hunter starting zones and a chance to try them out in HFC

apprently some of the lastest builds have actually been labled as beta instead of alpha

      • Yeah, I expect beta to begin in the next week or two. The state of development right now is already at that point.

  • With the release of the Movie in late May, they’re attempting to gain some re-subscriptions on the back of it. Its a solid enough strategy.. Except that the movie is currently considered to be a joke amongst reviewers (the 2 i know anyway). Good luck blizzard.

I’m seeing nothing here to convince me to lift my self imposed ban on buying all things Blizzard.

    • I’ve seen the opposite, most of the advance screening ratings I’ve seen have been high, including from people who aren’t Warcraft fans, which seems like a positive to me.

        • I haven’t seen anything like an official write-up, just comments from people who’ve been to one. I know very little else about it unfortunately, apparently there was one in New Jersey a few months ago? Also found this.
