You do all sorts of dodging in a Dark Souls game, sometimes by the skin of your teeth. Perhaps a blade just barely passes over your head, saving you from an instant death. Dark Souls fans call these moments hitbox porn.
You might not notice hitbox porn when it happens; it becomes most apparent upon further review, as you realise how close an attack was.
The clip from above, for example, is taken from this video:

All it takes is a quick search of YouTube to realise how prominent this is.
It’s a celebration of close calls while playing the Souls games, a combination of skill and luck. It’s also a testament to how well-designed the hit boxes are (usually) in Souls; players can do some extraordinary things!
Though the concept of hitbox porn has existed for years, my favourite example probably comes courtesy of Bloodborne. This is just… watch.

And this one from the original Dark Souls straight up gives me chills:

Of course, it doesn’t always go correctly. You know, like this…

We gotta end on a good note, though.
Yeah, that’s the stuff.

I call it lag (in relation to pvp anyways).
Literally the way to dominate PVP is to have wide swing and elemental weapon.
More like a weapon that is able to stunlock
The lag is so bad from WA that to play PVP you need to be a Jedi and feel the force. Fuck knows looking at the characters is no help.
I seem to get the complete opposite in Dark Souls 3 where I’ll frequently get hit by what they apparently call ‘phantom ranges’, where the hitbox is bigger than the visual representation or doesn’t quite match it’s rendered location (Dancer’s grab was really bad with this). There also seems to be this weirdness where you can roll before the attack hits but the attack takes priority so you’ll be locked in to it. Then sometimes you end up rolling after the attack lands… The move buffering is really wonky in DS3.
I noticed this with the bipedal mimics’ grab. It’s really really hard to dodge left or right because the coverage of the grab is so large. It’s more reliable to roll away.
Don’t start on me the dancer of boreal’s grab, completely stuck on that boss. I can get it so close to death, then some how it pulls of some bullshit and kills me 🙁
But those grabs it does, when you are well safe by the looks of it and it’ll still like magnetizes itself. So annoying!
Happens a lot more in PVP, i’m never doing PVP again in it because the hit detection is so rubbish.
As a darksoulsman, I can honestly say that nobody calls it “porn”.
