Strange things are happening to Superman in DC’s comics. The current Superman is dying, and not only will he be replaced by the Superman of DC’s old continuity, but his powers will be diffused into many other people: including a Chinese man named Kenan Kong. But Kenan’s not going to be alone in his fight for justice.
DC has released solicitation text for the second issue of Gene Luen Yang, Viktor Bogdanovic and Richard Friend’s The New Super-Man #2 through Comic Book Resources, and it reveals that just as Kenan is coming into his new set of amazing powers, he has to be put in check by the Justice League of China — a group which includes New Bat-man and New Wonder-Woman.
They won’t be enemies, though — the other heroes just want to bring Kenan back down to Earth so he can help them take on a new threat in the form of a villain named Sunbeam. Superheroes? Working together? Why I never!
New Super-Man begins in July, while New Bat-Man and New Wonder-Woman will make their debut in New Super-Man #2 on August 10.

Uh, ok, I kinda let the reason go for a Chinese Superman. A Chinese Batman? Sure, Batman’s just a normal guy who trained himself, anybody can do that. But a Chinese Wonder Woman? How does that make sense? Did she die and have her powers transferred to some random Chinese girl too? Or, did they just turn Wonder Woman Chinese despite the fact that she’s a statue?
Well seeing how Wonder woman is literally made from CLAY… I doubt it would be hard to make a Chinese wonder woman. Even Nubia was made from brown clay…
Can I have some of whatever DC’s editorial team is on please?
why can’t they just come up with new superheroes from other ethnicities, instead of having them take up current roles?
Because John Stewart, Cyborg, Firestorm, Simon Baz, Cheshire, Katana, Cassandra Kain don’t sell well even when they have good writers making good stories. May as well just try and sell new characters with old names.
But seriously, these characters will be gone once they realise that Jim Lee is smoking crack and that they really should just play to what their core readers read. All progressive BS aside, the reality is that with exception of the new Spidey and Thor, Marvels ANAD titles sales have been weakening.
I guess it doesn’t matter so long as they keep churning out Star Wars and people keep eating that stuff up; no matter how average the vast majority of titles are.
EDIT: Just checked, even though I personally like new Thor apparently her sales are stagnating… which is a shame.
TBH I don’y read comics much, if at all, so I don’t know these characters you mention lolz.
But in movies or tv series, the usual idea is to have start a new series in the same universe would be have the character be part of an important arc of an existing series. So shouldn’t one of these characters have been in Superman, Batman or wonder woman for years before starting their own spin-off….or at least be introduced through an existing franchise?
on the issue of superhero comic sales weakening. From an outsider looking in (and as a manga reader), maybe the issue is that none of these series ever end, the storylines seem to blur together, plot developments seem to have no consequence and things keep getting “rebooted”…(once again, as an outsider, I may just be completely ignorant of major developments in the superhero comic scene…)
What first seemed like a laudable and interesting diversification effort now is revealed as a naked chinese market-catering effort. smh
So let me guess Chinese batman fights crime but only crime from people of lower socioeconomic status. Chinese superman’s weakness is democracy and Chinese women woman’s weakness isn’t being tied up but having her feet bound.
