Starbreeze, developers of the Syndicate reboot and the Riddick games, are also a publisher. And they have just picked up the rights to some very interesting old classics belonging to a company called Cinemaware.
That brand may not leap off the page, but the purchase means Starbreeze now has the rights to make new games (including VR games) based on properties like Defender of the Crown and It Came from the Desert.
That’s exciting for fans of those games, but me, I’m most hyped to see what becomes of the TV Sports series, which was also included in the deal; in the days when Madden was first starting out, and Joe Montana had a football game, I remember TV Sports Football being the best game in the genre.
Of course, I was also nine years old, so what the hell did I know.
Here’s the full list of games. Note that just because Starbreeze now owns them doesn’t mean we’re going to get remakes/reboots of all of them:
- Defender of the Crown
- Wings
- The King of Chicago
- Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon
- Lords of the Rising Sun
- Rocket Ranger
- It Came from the Desert
- It Came from the Desert II: Antheads
- SDI
- TV Sports: Basketball
- TV Sports: Baseball
- TV Sports: Boxing
- TV Sports: Football
- TV Sports: Hockey

I remember Defender of the Crown. Didn’t know how to play properly (as a child) but had fun sieging castles.
Also learnt that it is considered unchivalrous to lance a horse in the head during a tournament.
So this is why you purchase horse armor.
Rocket Ranger and It Came From The Desert, please.
I had Defender of the Crown, The King of Chicago and SDI on the Commodore Amiga 500 and they looked a lot better, there. I managed to beat the first two, but not SDI.
Agreed, SDI was tricky
How good was The King of Chicago
Hope they bring this bacl
Wings! Remastered is already on steam:

I think Defender of the Crown got remade a few years ago as well as a Robin Hood game. I remember playing it on… PS2, I think.
Any idea what the Wings remaster is like? The original was a great game for its time, unsure how it’s held up, though.
Recently purchased Defender of the Crown on GOG, classic game.
Loved Cinemaware games as a kid on the Amiga. Defender of the Crown is a forever classic. But I could never get enough of TV Sports Basketball. It was the NBA Hangtime of my day, and those between game ad’s sooo cheesy but loved them.
Defender of the Crown on C64 emulator is still one of my go-to games… on my SLI gaming rig :/
