A Georgia judge sentenced 18-year-old Kayla Dixon to 40 years in prison this week after she pleaded guilty to shooting a man over his PlayStation 4.
In September of 2014, 28-year-old Daniel Zeitz had put up a Craigslist post in hopes of selling his PS4. According to the police, Dixon and her boyfriend, Nathaniel Vivian, responded to the listing but then attempted to rob Zeitz. When Zeitz resisted, Dixon shot him, prosecutors said.
WSB-TV in Atlanta reports that Dixon confessed to the crime as part of a plea deal. “I would trade anything, almost anything, to bring Daniel back. But I know I can’t,” she said in a statement to press. “I know he had plans. I wish I could tell him I’m so, so sorry that this happened, but I can’t.”
Vivian will be tried later this winter.

She 360 no scoped him
Seems like a trivial thing to murder someone over… someone really must have wanted to play Uncharted 4.
Well, she has wasted her life and taken another over a Playstation.
I can barely wrap my head around the stupidity of people like this.
Bloody hell, 40 years seems a bit steep for a plea bargain. What’d they take OFF the table? Death penalty?
She is black , so probably
Race of Defendants Executed in the U.S. Since 1976
BLACK 495 34.6%
LATINO 120 8.3%
WHITE 797 55.5%
OTHER 24 1.7%
Stop your race baiting bullshit. She committed first degree murder and got convicted of first degree murder. It carries a hefty price tag – yes, including the death penalty.
If you consider that about 77ish% of the U.S. identifies as white and only 13ish% as black, you could certainly argue that black and other non-white people are overrepresented when it comes to the execution rates you’ve cited yourself.
So, nah, I don’t think it’s really race-baiting. But good on you for trying.
People are only sorry once they’ve been caught.
As far as my brief understanding of US law, murder then stealing (or murder committed in the act of stealing) is First Degree Murder. Which carries life imprisonment, or death.
that or life in prison, we are talking about murder here, I sure if you were in the same shoes knew you were going to prison and offered one of the three options you’ll take the 40years too. at least you’ll get out some day
Then don’t bring a gun. Don’t shoot the god damn guy trying to sell his PS4 for some cash to survive.
Another tragedy that could have been prevented if a random teenager couldn’t get her hands on a gun as easily as if it was bubblegum. But nooo there’s no need to regulate guns in America, it’s them gorram videogames’ fault, ain’t I rite?
But it’s definitely the terrorists fault right? Has nothing to do with guns surely? SURELY?! Bloody America -.-
RADICAL ISLAM IS THE PROBLEM, NOT AVAILABILITY OF GUNS
…Apparently.
Judging from the article not naming the kind of gun used (in addition to HuffPo being a leftist echochamber, it more than likely was a handgun), I’m going to assume it was a handgun.
If so, the regulations would have done nothing to stop this tragedy. Most states in the US have background checks necessary for obtaining firearms (though this can be circumvented by some sellers in the grey market) including permits and/or licensing.
Further, on the assumption that this was done with a handgun, there’s absolutely nothing stopping it from happening here. If you want a Glock .22 The Gunsmiths in Sefton can do you one for $250, so long as you can pass the background check and have your permits. There are more guns in circulation in Australia currently than there were pre-1996.
There’s a serious behavioural difference in how the US gun owners act compared to our end; probably because with a higher amount of people there’s a higher amount of covert crazies.
Well the point is that regulations should be good enough to stop that kind of things, no? For one, it shouldn’t be allowed for anybody under 21 to own a gun, spotless back-check or not.
The only solution is to ban all guns for citizens. But we all know that will/can’t ever happen.
