Death Star Expansion And Offline Bot Play Coming To Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront may have had an insufficient number of Death Stars on release (that number being zero), but EA and DICE are looking to make up for it with the game’s third expansion, informatively named Death Star. In the lead up to its September release, the developers are implementing an “offline” mode, complete with split-screen co-op and bots.

According to Battlefront lead designer Dennis Brannvall, the offline update will hit on July 21, introducing a new mode, “Skirmish”:

[Skirmish] offers players the option to play offline against bots in a solo mission or with a friend using co-op split screen. (Console only) Skirmish can be played on a difficulty level of your choosing and across two modes, Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron. With multiple locations that span the galaxy, from the frozen planet of Hoth to the lava encrusted planet of Sullust, we hope Skirmish brings players a new way to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront.

For those interested in a certain, Empire-made celestial destroyer of worlds, that’s coming a bit later — September to be exact:

…Season Pass holders will receive our third digital expansion pack, Star Wars Battlefront Death Star. More new maps – on ground and in space – new weapons and Star Cards and two new heroes including one larger-than-life character we know you’ve been patiently waiting for. Not a Season Pass holder? Don’t worry, the expansion pack is available for separate purchase.

Star Wars Battlefront Death Star is a mouthful, for sure, but it should hopefully deliver the variety fans have been after for months.
