Death Star Expansion And Offline Bot Play Coming To Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront may have had an insufficient number of Death Stars on release (that number being zero), but EA and DICE are looking to make up for it with the game’s third expansion, informatively named Death Star. In the lead up to its September release, the developers are implementing an “offline” mode, complete with split-screen co-op and bots.

According to Battlefront lead designer Dennis Brannvall, the offline update will hit on July 21, introducing a new mode, “Skirmish”:

[Skirmish] offers players the option to play offline against bots in a solo mission or with a friend using co-op split screen. (Console only) Skirmish can be played on a difficulty level of your choosing and across two modes, Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron. With multiple locations that span the galaxy, from the frozen planet of Hoth to the lava encrusted planet of Sullust, we hope Skirmish brings players a new way to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront.

For those interested in a certain, Empire-made celestial destroyer of worlds, that’s coming a bit later — September to be exact:

…Season Pass holders will receive our third digital expansion pack, Star Wars Battlefront Death Star. More new maps – on ground and in space – new weapons and Star Cards and two new heroes including one larger-than-life character we know you’ve been patiently waiting for. Not a Season Pass holder? Don’t worry, the expansion pack is available for separate purchase.

Star Wars Battlefront Death Star is a mouthful, for sure, but it should hopefully deliver the variety fans have been after for months.

What’s next for Star Wars Battlefront this Summer [Star Wars Battlefront]

  • This might be the tipping point that makes me think this game is finally worth buying. Will have to see what the update is like when it launches but offline play is always nice

  • Would be nice if they’d introduce some primary guns that aren’t blasters with unbelievably high amounts of travel time on projectiles.

  • I really dislike how they exclude PC from local split screen – I have my PC connected to a TV and am frustrated I can’t local co op, which I do far more often than online co op.

  • Just give me glorious reboots of X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Please. Some new story content won’t be hard. Do it for the Jawas. Won’t anyone think of the Jawas?

    • Hell no. EA is in charge now. They would either make missiles a paid mtx or release a single tour of duty and charge for each of the additional 12 as DLC.

      • Bloody hell. I want to relive my childhood from the nineties. Space dogfighting, targeting engines, torpedo runs, testing prototypes and scanning for contraband was all damn good fun.

        • Then log on to gog and buy the original games. Honestly they still hold up. Try X wing Alliance with the xwing alliance upgrade texture packs which are still being updayed to this day. Experiencing a Super Star Destroyers 17.6 km length is an dread inspiring feeling.

  • After seeing how the PC version was handled (my 11 year old spent all his birthday money on it), I’ve decided to boycott anything released by DICE/EA. Screw this company.
