From big-budget hits to indie gems, we played some great games this month. Let’s look at some of our favourite games from June.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst brings back cyberpunk runner Faith and her dizzying parkour skills. A follow-up to 2008’s groundbreaking Mirror’s Edge, Catalyst meets and even exceeds its predecessor in many ways, even if it plays a lot of things safe.
You can buy the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator
Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator has a unique tutorial that helped us remember the basics. It also has new characters, new modes and new mechanics to make it more accessible to newcomers and more entertaining for veterans.
You can buy the game on PS4 and PS3.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
This HD remake runs beautifully while keeping the charm and beauty of the original PS2 game intact. It’s a great way to revisit the game or to play it for the first time.
You can buy the game for PS3, PS4 and the Vita.
Hearts of Iron IV
Hearts of Iron IV is a strategy game, but unless you’re a veteran of Paradox’s special take on the genre, it’s not what you’re used to. You look after nearly every aspect of your nation’s strategic management, including diplomacy, research, recruitment and production.
You can buy the game for PC.
Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition
Surgeon Simulator got some new DLC that adds updated graphics, new environments, additional achievements, stat tracking — and lets you operate on Donald Trump. We had a blast with it.
You can buy the game for PC and PS4.
Edge of Nowhere
Edge of Nowhere puts you inside a game like Uncharted 4 or Tomb Raider. One of the first virtual reality games to be made by a major studio (in this case, Insomniac Games), it’s fun, has a great sense of scale and can be played without making you sick.
You can buy it for the Oculus Rift.
Trials of the Blood Dragon
Trials of the Blood Dragon was a surprise reveal during E3. This combination of the motorbike action of the Trials series and the over-the-top neon ’80s action movie aesthetic of Far Cry 3 expansion Blood Dragon is really something beautiful.
You can buy the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ expanded story missions give underutilised movie characters a chance to shine. Fresh mechanics make it more than just another LEGO game.
You can buy the game for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS and Vita.
Resident Evil 7 Demo: Beginning Hour
This short teaser is full of mystery. It’s also pretty spooky.
You can play the game on PS4.
The Last Leviathan
This ambitious Early Access sailing game has you building ships (but mostly sinking them).
You can buy the game on PC.
Inside
Inside is a new game by Playdead, the folks who made Limbo. It’s an evolution on Limbo‘s formula with constantly escalating surprises that are a big part of what makes it so much fun.
You can buy the game on Xbox One and PC (July 8).
VA-11 Hall-A
VA-11 Hall-A is a brilliant experiment in storytelling that bills itself as a point-and-click bartending sim, but is more akin to a self-mocking William Gibson novel.
You can buy the game for PC and Mac.
Asemblance
A little bit of PT mixed in with The Stanley Parable, Asemblance is a head trip of an experience.
You can buy the game for PC.
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma
Zero Time Dilemma has a gripping story and stellar writing that can best be appreciated if you’ve played the other games in the series first.
You can buy the game for Vita and PC.
House of the Dying Sun
This Early Access starfighting game is polished, fun and especially enjoyable in VR. We look forward to seeing the direction its one-person development team takes it in.
You can buy the game for PC.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Tokyo Mirage Sessions isn’t just a mash-up of two popular RPG franchises, but an RPG take on modern Japanese pop culture.
You can buy the game for Wii U.
