Happy MonTAY!
This weekend was pretty cool, we won in soccer again so that always makes me feel like a boss at the office first thing in the morning. I ate burgers with @blackdahlianz on Saturday and picked up Doom for $50 & Assassins Creed Syndicate for $38 because the Gametraders at my shopping center was closing down 🙁
What did you guys do?
hi friend
hI
Reply fail.
Brr… So cold today.
Hello
Ohaiyou.
*waves*

Feelin hot hot hot!
*rumble*
Dawn of the Final Week
20 hours remain
Short week.
Part time? Moarliek party time!
After the way the EU referendum turned out at the weekend, I don’t want to see the culmination of this week’s events. Shit’s going to be grim-stupid.
Good morning everyone! *crawls back into bed*
[Quickly slips a large cactus into said bed before sueprhiero slips in.]
Went shopping then out to dinner Saturday. Sunday was so chill I got to play almost two whole hours of Sunset Overdrive uninterrupted. Then we watched Skyfall since we’ve had the blu ray sitting around for a couple of years and I’m itching to check out Spectre. It dragged a bit in the middle but the ending was pretty excellent. The only thing that irritated me was the preroll of advertisements before I got to the top menu, which of course had spoilers playing in the background. This is why I prefer streaming even though blu ray looks better.
Speaking of, I can’t remember which Streaming service had the Bond movies but Stan, Netflix and Presto all seem to have them conspicuously absent. Pretty sure it was Stan. I never got around to watching them but I know I had a bunch of them on my watch list. I really wish streaming services were a lot more transparent about which shows are leaving soon or at least which ones you had on your list that you can no longer watch. I can’t imagine why they don’t have this as an option.
I have a mate that gets BluRays but doesn’t have a player. He aways rips his disks saying, quote: “I didn’t get a HD copy to relive the VHS frustrations”.
My memory is fuzzy but I’m pretty sure when DVD first came out, that was an advantage it had over VHS and Beta so who’s idea was it to put the trailers, etc, back before the main menu?
At least it doesn’t give me the stupid FBI warning about how if I steal this movie I have on a disc I bought from a store I’m going to a special hell where they put bbq sauce on my balls and leave me in the sun with a million hungry army ants. Instead I got a stupid “thank you” image and a voiceover telling me that by buying this blu ray disc I’m supporting the film industry.
Man, I just want to watch a movie that came out three years ago, not trailers for other movies that came out three years ago.
Lucky you. I import a lot of cartoons and I get that warning all the time.
Is it wrong for me to say I prefer the FBI warning than a thankyou from a local industry that doesn’t care if the staff in it live or die?
I hate both pretty equally.
My daughter loves Minions and Frozen movie right now and we’ve got the blurays, but we stream copies off my PC to avoid pre-roll ads.
I just want to shout a big “f*^& off!” to the studios for putting unskippable ads on a bluray. I’ve paid the price of admission, now let me watch my goddamn movie… for the 350th time.
Friday night actually sat down to give Yoshi’s Wooly World a shot. Didn’t play for the rest of the weekend for fear I’d grin my face off, 😛
Jokes aside, errands piled up but I really enjoyed the short moment I got playing it. Can’t wait for the next weekend to play it some more.
Good morning. Overwatch players, @jocon and I met a fairly toxic player last night. He was blaming everyone else for us losing, despite the fact that we weren’t really working together. Now that “avoid this player” has been disabled, can you report someone for being a bad teammate?
http://9gag.com/gag/a84YWgZ
Nah, can block their chat tho.
Doesn’t really help as you may play with those horrible people again
Just change to D.VA. and stay in their way all game without actively helping them at all. They should rage quit pretty quick.
I wish that’s how it worked
Yakuza 5 makes an awesome momentary departure from the whole MANLY MEN BEING MANLY AND FIGHTING LIKE MEN IN A MANLY FASHION when you start playing as a 16 year old girl who gets into dance battles.
I don’t even know how this part is related to anything and I don’t even care.
oh my god
you can also be a middle aged man having a dance battle with old ladies according to this screenshot
http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/yakuza5_ro2_thumb.jpg
goty
Speaking of manly men and dance battles…
Beautiful.
I promised myself I’d finish three before buying 5 but now my stupid ps3 control is busted
plz help summer apparently exists in cnada send snowplz hlp send meat pies i’m pretty hungry for one
I’ll trade you.
Snow is gross and cold and wet. Blergh.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
“summer in Canada”
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaah hahahahaha!
On Saturday night it hit like 3°. That’s not ok, man. Good thing my Ug boots arrived on Friday. My wife is super mad hers didn’t, though. Like super mad.
Mornin’ all. FIL staying with us again, as a father of three and one of eight children, you’d think he’d have some other family that would put up with him for a couple of weeks – nope, he has to stay with us every time. Doesn’t do “quiet”, so I think we’re going to retreat to the bedroom tonight with GoT so we get to listen to what’s happening, rather than his damn commentary.
So, yeah, first world problems. Other than that, we’re past the solstice, so that days are getting longer and that makes me happy.
I finally watched the Zelda BotW gameplay demo from e3 and now I want to crack out Zelda Wind Waker and finish it off.
Unfortunately, there is a never ending list of k-dramas coming out of Netflix and I can’t get on the tv. In the good old days my wife could only watch them on her tablet so I had the tv for uninterrupted gaming. I miss those good old days…
Can’t you just flip it over to the gamepad while she uses the TV?
I can…but I don’t want to. 😛
Give it a shot. Headphones and laying back on the couch makes Wind Waker even more awesome.
I play a majority of ps4 games through the vita because of similar problems.
How is the quality? I don’t have a Vita but I would consider it to be able to play my ps4 more.
Graphics look a bit busy sometimes, depends on the game. You lose that niceness a big 1080p provides.
Sometimes get those pixelly artifact thing, depends on your connection. I’ve noticed bad weather, heavy internet use & lots of movement between me & the ps4 &/ or router can affect this.
Sometimes the control set up is bonkers, you wanna hope they didn’t map an important button to touch. You really have to learn to use those back touchscreen controls effectively. I have & it’s fine now.
Overall it ain’t perfect, it’s something I needed to get used to & works with certain games better than otgers. But, it’s better than no games when you know you’re free.
Can Kotaku AU investigate why Bethesda games on Steam are being charged the wrong price?
Seriously looks moronic, Steams unexplained reason why Australia is the only market still charged in USD… or is there a moron in sales at Bethesda that doesnt know this. Its ripping us off $20 per game and no other AAA publisher has had the problem.
There is a few AAA publishers who have the same convict tax applied. Ubisoft do for one, and I’m pretty sure 2K still do.
It’s been looked into. Steam don’t like to trade in AUD because they don’t want to be beholden to our consumer laws and it kept the illusion that they didn’t trade in Australia (something the supreme court called a load of bollocks earlier this year).
As to the Australia tax price gouging, no one takes credit for the extra money. We get charged higher in USD than the US does for the exact same digital product but according to steam, the publishers, and the developers, no one pockets that extra money. So there’s no solution. Except to boycott the service, I guess.
I just boycott purchasing any game that has a convict tax on it
Ugh, why is it Monday already?
Also my boss called me, one of my coworkers called in sick today, so he needs me to come in early, hoorah now i’ll be at work from midday to close. Just how I wanted to spend my day.. At least it’s extra money, so it’s not that bad.
Uh.. Good work Steam. The Saints Row AU Pack is $12.49 USD on Steam, but all the games by themselves come to a grand total of $10.47 USD. Yep great savings there >_>
Happens a lot with bundles during sale time. Double check though, the bundle might include DLC while the individual games don’t.
It’s just Saints Row 3, Saints Row 2 & Gat Out of Hell. No DLC, no extras. Kinda dick.
TAY DAY!
Hey guys. It’s Monday yay! Time to be an adult!
Quick question: I’ve been playing Dragon Age Origins. First DA game I’ve played but I’ve read all the articles on the lore and I’ve been really pumped to play this game since it came out. I’m enjoying it, played for about 12 hours, but there’s one thing that I’m really struggling to deal with. The voice talent. In my opinion it’s the weakest part of the game. Maybe I’ve been spoilt with The Witcher 3 and Uncharted but it feels so stilted and unnatural. With both the leads and the cameos. The French accents…… oi. It’s like an episode of Allo Allo (for anyone old enough to know what that is).
Anyway, I’m not ripping into it. I’m enjoying it and I want to continue enjoying it. I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on it, and have any tips on getting past that. Or maybe I’m just being too critical.
Once you realise the lady elf voice actually IS Ciri…
Swooping. It’s bad.
I argue the entirety of DA has middling-to-bad voice acting with some exceptions, and quite frankly Medieval RPGS aren’t exactly known for high standards in voice acting, so middling-to-bad voice acting doesn’t really faze me much.
DA:O is a pretty old game, haven’t played it for a few years now. That said I never had any noticeable qualms with the voice-acting as such?
Oh wait sorry misread. Lady elf in Inquisition is Ciri.
Now I want to hear Leliana say “Good moaning. Have you seen the portrait of the fallen Madonna with the big boobies?”
Do what I do & read the dialogue & skip through. It’s great, you’ll get out many more replays if this awesome game.
Yes a friend of mine also suggested this. It’s a great idea. How do I do that though?
On console it’s whatever the equivalent to the box (square) button is.
Same in Mass Effect.
I’m not a huge fan of dialogue in games, I’m always on the look out for the fast forward button.
Nothing worse to me than subpar dialogue in a game that you can’t skip or can only skip great chunks of dialogue.
I want the information, I just don’t need every little thing acted out for me every times.
I’m quite happy to sit through important cutscenes.
A lot of the issues you’re hitting are because DA:O’s design predates Bioware’s Mass Effect approach. The game is basically KotOR in design. The protagonist is voiceless and nameless and it makes them seem really boring. From DA2 onward the protagonist has a voice and some kind of name or role (Hawke / Inquisitor) and feels much more connected and fleshed out as a result.
I had no real issues with the NPC voice work. Leliana’s accent isn’t a ‘traditional’ stereotypical French accent but the actress is French, so I always assumed it was a regional thing. But the stand-out voices were Alistair and Morrigan, and the rest are just passable. Bioware’s come a long way since then, and the voice acting in DA2 and Inquisition is significantly better all around. DA2 also makes the races a lot better defined visually, especially the Qunari.
But yeah, the game’s probably dated badly too. I can’t imagine going back to it now. Also the entire franchise is going to come up second best compared to The Witcher.
As a family man I had a very rare weekend to myself. One hour after my family flew OS my mate turned up and stayed all weekend. Saturday we built his brand new gaming rig and it was the most gorgeous piece of overclocking simplicity you’ve ever seen. I was gobsmacked and more than a little jealous… he was naturally, tickled pink! Then it was playing Doom all Saturday night and Sunday until the dishwasher blew up and took out the circuit we were on!!!
Best weekend ever.
Pretty much!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. That’s beautiful.
Hola Tay
Busy….3 weeks.
Last Thursday I went to Whyalla for a work trip while sick, so Friday I went full collapse and had the day off. Played some Dark Souls 3, knocked off
Aldrich and the Dancer of the Boreal Valleyreasonably quickly. Saturday did a Costco run then went to a friend’s housewarming with a “welcome to our ghetto crib” theme- basically all of those ‘Lisbef clothes. wore my fantastic jumper bought for the occasion https://twitter.com/redartifice/status/743405311868821504
Sunday did not much, still recovering from this cold. Played some Mirror’s Edge, it’s… OK. Running is still fun, but dear god the writing is atrocious and the game suffers from “too many collectibles-” there’s four different types, only one of which is particularly interesting. The game uses all of these jargony terms in the plot that makes it sound like nonsense, and if you want to find out what they’re ACTUALLY talking about you have to find stupid hidden documents just for basic glossary. Ugh.
Also did a bunch of work on my armour- Foam construction is near complete now, and I should have it strapped in the next week or two. Then it’s seal and paint and it’s done. Here’s the constructed back plate: https://twitter.com/redartifice/status/746277066065117184
A Monday Morning Question: Mirror’s Edge has horrid collectibles. What’s the best in-game collectible ever? I liked the shards in Infamous 2 because they helped you level AND showed up on your bloody map
Alan Wake: manuscript pages.
They’re well-established in the fiction of the universe, they’re engagingly written (not brilliant, but good enough), and they’re excellent foreshadowing for what’s around the next corner. And because they don’t affect the actual outcome of the game at all, they are purely optional (an important criterion in my book – I personally detest having to gather collectibles to level up).
Man, Alan Wake just ticked so many of the ‘YES!’ boxes. One of my favourite games ever.
I liked the glyph things in Assassins creed that took you into a special challenge level before they became just random feather collections.
I actually quite like collectables, riddler trophies in batman that required some thought at times and unlock the next hostage room. Even ones people despise I don’t mind. I think because I play game with Mrs Tigs quite often, being able to keep an eye out for things like feathers in AC gives her something else to do as she watches and keeps her more engaged.
Oh man, Riddler trophies were great, esp in City. Those puzzles were fun
Yeah some of the best collectables I have seen. And the thugs you can interrogate to get them on the map of you like is a good touch as well.
Yeah, that was one of the Arkham Origins innovations wasn’t it?
Lot of hate against Origins, but I had fun.
First done in City. Asylum had maps you could find but was a lot less clear and you had to hunt out the map first
Ah, that’s right. Still, it’s one of the collectables I’ve done in all four games.
Crackdown. Orbs.
Must get more orbs. Ooh, another orb? Orb!
I still hear them sometimes…
On the plus side there were so damn many that you didn’t have to get them all to max out your stats.
Good question, probably none. I’m not the type to try & find every little thing in a game. Sure, I have a look & see what I can find, but I don’t let it bore me.
I prefer hidden items of great use that let you feel rewarded for your efforts, rather than stuff that doesn’t tie back into why you play in the first place.
They also need to be NOT mandatory to ar least seeing one ending. I’m fine if they hide away a better or different ending this way.
Yeah, the shards in the InFamous games made sense. Nice balance of “you need to find these” with “if you get a glimpse or run past one, we’ll stick it in the map for you”, so there were only a few really tricky ones, and most you’d come across just barrelling round the maps or looking at obvious spots – “That’s the highest place on the map, bet there’s one up there… cha-ching!”
Must go back and do First Light.
Last GoT ep for the year.
Best thing about it is that we don’t have to hear about the show for another 12 months.
But that also means the last episode of Silicon Valley which sucks 🙁 I wish it was longer than 20 minutes, it’s such a well written show. I don’t think i’ve ever disliked something Mike Judge has done.
Edit: You say that we don’t have to hear about the show for another 12 months. I beg to differ, I got mates that go on about it all year round like it’s some kind of religion.
10 weeks where GRRM doesn’t get hassled as much about the next book – 42 weeks where he does. Prepare for coverage on which delay he’s up to next.
Oh yeah?! Well I can’t wait til I stop hearing about…
*flips through list of popular shit*
…Taylor Swift!
Last song played game time?
Rooms by Audien for me, listening to the Trance Life playlist from Spotify
How about you?
What was YOUR last song played?
Sound of Madness – Shinedown.
I think I may have finally solved the problem of my mysteriously disconnecting PS4!
All I had to do was move it to the other side of the room. Granted this meant reworking some of my cabling, but was still a remarkably easy thing. It seems crazy, but just moving it over a couple of metres made a huge difference.
2 possible scenarios:
one: the previous location was just too crowded with cables and wires
two: my neighbour had recently changed something on their side of the wall (new wifi router or somtehing?) which was interfering with mine.
My head says number 1. But I can’t shake the feeling it was number 2.
Knock a hole in the wall where it was and take a sneak peek. It is the only way to rule out number 2
I like the way you think. But I get enough exposure to my neighbours as it is… lets just say the main bedrooms share a wall as well… and last night was a noisy one…
Morning all! Had a pretty good weekend – lots of Destiny and Diablo 3. Been trying to knock off the Crucible questline as it’s looking likely it’s a requirement for the Year 2 moments of triumph. My experience thus far:
12 kills in clash? That won’t be too bad… Huh, easier than I thought. Okay, next… 5 kills with an active runner in rift? How hard can that be?” *two hours later* “F(*@^ing RIFT!!!” Last Words and shotguns far as the eye can see…“Okay, never going back there again… oh god… 12 kills in Rumble… /o\… Oh, Mayhem Rumble’s on. \o/ *one game later* What’s next? 8 kills in Skirmish? Err… *calls in assistance* Right. 3 probes in Salvage… ” Got matchmade with two Trials gods who completely demolished the opposing team, while I hid in a corner deploying probes. Two victories, and quest objective complete! \o/ Okay, oh, more Control? Woo! More Rift? *Four games filled with unintelligible cursing* Clash? Woo! Rumble? Back to Mayhem! \o/ More Skirmish? Err… *previous assistance has called it a night at this point* “It can wait…”
9 points in Elimination matches… Elimination has been replaced with Trials for the weekend. Welp, that can wait, too, I guess…
6+ AR kills in a single match, four times… how hard can that be? *twenty games later* My Soulstealers claw… it does nothing! *headache ensues* Screw this, I’m going to play Diablo.
Meanwhile, in Diablo, my crusader’s Thorns build is nearly complete – (incoming jargon alert :P) just need some imperial diamonds to reroll a socket onto a Compass Rose so I can use a Bane of the Trapped for the 25% damage boost. Swapped my Angel Hair Braid for a Belt of the Trove for a near-permanent 25% damage reduction, which let me swap out my pure healing skill for Provoke so everything nearby takes double thorns damage, and trying to decide if I want something better than Bane of the Stricken, given my sheet-DPS is about 16k and my primary weapon’s damage is about 450. But I soloed a 63 Grift yesterday with a little time to spare, so … 😀
I got the year one. I cannot be arsed with the year 2. Although I’m getting a Destiny itch.
Only reason I’m doing it is because, if the leaked MoTs are correct, that questline is the only thing I have left to do for it. Plus, I think the only frustrating part left is the primary weapon kills; everything else is just “hop into the appropriate playlist and finish games.” Even if the last step ends up taking 20 games… it’ll still be faster than getting 5 kills with an active runner in Rift.
Something in my brain snapped and now I can’t read the word sealant properly. I just see sea-lant…
Seal-Ant. IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE WAVES IN SEARCH FOR SUGAR! WHAT HORRO HAS NATURE WROUGHT?!
Wait a minute.
@dogman.
Dog-Man.
IT CAME FROM THE DARK KENNEL, HUMPING LEGS AND…
Good morning all. Didn’t do a whole lot over the weekend aside from usual RPG and video game stuff. Played a tonne of Hearts of Iron as Argentina which worked rather well as I ended up conquering Japan. I also ran a game of 40K RPG Chaos which had its own, rather humorous shenanigans:
The group has managed to wind up in the Warp itself which presented a number of interesting possibilities. They discovered a treasure trove of knowledge that was ruled over by a Tzeentch Lord of Change that was basically like the library in the desert from Avatar. They didn’t have any knowledge to trade so they promised to return with something of value. That something of value ended up being a Slaaneshi Keeper of Secrets that they had imprisoned using some rather finicky Dark Mechanicus equipment (basically like a portable stasis field/capture prison). I had hoped that a greater daemon would put up more of a fight, however that was not to be as the daemon caused Perils of the Warp and suffered chronological incontinence which forced it to pop out of existence momentarily. The daemon came back to see everyone pointing their guns directly at the beast and shooting it to hell and back before snagging its Warp essence in the trap.So yeah, that happened. Trading the Keeper of Secrets resulted in them acquiring schematics and knowledge pertaining to developing new space marines, constructing Chaos robots, and finding out some interesting stuff about the Thousand Sons for psychic shenanigans. Of course, getting the resources and facilities to make use of all of this good stuff will take some time.
Well at least thy have their long term goals sorted
Wife and I started another game of Diablo 2 on the weekend. Two barbarians. Bash all of the things!
I really wanna get this & leave it at a mate’s house so we can drink & co-op.
Super long weekend. Ended up being unconscious for most of Friday, so didn’t end up penning any thoughts about Thursday. Wall of mindpurge, no reading necessary 😛

All in all I was pretty happy with how it went. I mean I could have been in a better mental state going into it, either by sleeping better the night before or catching a nap while hanging around doing nothing forever beforehand. And I do suspect that the overall “date” context may have been spoilt by the whole self-awareness of the situation, along with a possible lack of any actual matchmaking going on. In the end it actually kind of reminded me of visiting the onsen in Japan with my friends – all of us standing around nervous as hell wondering what to do, but then once the first guy dropped his pants and we all followed suit(less?) and jumped in, it was just suddenly like “…what was the big deal again?”, and we could all relax and enjoy it. So even if I did just have dinner with a couple of strangers, I feel a bit better about maybe looking into these kinds of things again somewhere down the line. Safe way to test the waters 😛 Definitely less worried about the remaining one this weekend.
Wound up going out Friday night, bit of a spontaneous dinner thing with Wingman and another friend. Hopped a train to Bondi, then spent ages waiting for them to get there, wandering endless laps around Westfield before taking it outside because it was just too damn hot in there and I needed to cool down 😛 Apparently a couple of the others were invited but couldn’t make it. We settled on getting some sushi, then went around to Max Brenners for dessert before going back to the guy’s place and met his new kitten. That thing was nuts, darting around the place like greased lightning jacked up on pixie sticks. He got on great with the other kitten though. My friend asked for a bit of help with his PC, having just bought a new GPU for it so he could run his Vive better. Only it turned out that while he’d researched whether the card could fit in his PC (one of those small form factor things, think it was some kind of Alienware prebuilt) he’d glossed over the posts saying he’d need an external PSU. Which I pointed out. And he responded to with “what’s a PSU?” Oh dear 😛 Also it turned out that the previous card was a GTX745, which explains why Wingman was saying she felt unwell after trying the Vive the other day. Any bloody wonder 😛 After that I kinda crashed for a bit, then realised that I couldn’t stay because my car would probably get booked in the morning so had to hoof it back home. Next time, Gadget.
Thought I’d found a way to be able to use my PC from outside on Saturday, get some sun and a little warmth since the house is a damn icebox regardless of what it’s doing outside. But then realised the KVM cable that would have been perfect only has male PS/2 plugs on each end, so is useless without the switch we used to have. Which seems to have disappeared. Dammit. Luckily it turned out my sister has a wireless keyboard and mouse that she used to use in her room, so I could just nick that. Except it was getting too cold by the time that was sorted. And then Sunday wasn’t that nice outside either. Bah 😛
Started playing some of the VR games last night that I picked up in the sale. Checked out the Apollo 11 Experience, it was pretty cool though I had absolutely no idea what I was doing in the interactive parts and failed. A lot. Then I decided to try Windlands and… god damn that is just way too cool. Like I said in one of the other articles, it’s pretty much like Grow Home except if you were Spiderman. haven’t quite got a proper handle on how to best use the swinging mechanics, but it’s damn fun. Really requires standing up though, so you can properly look around. And needs some more control options to better facilitate turning.
Eventually I pulled myself away from it, and got a little time in Chronos. It seems really good so far, people have talked about it being like the original Zelda and Dark Souls, but I’m getting more of an Eternal Darkness vibe from it. Maybe ED Lite. I’ve died twice so far, this doesn’t bode well 😛 The sound is fantastic though, it starts out in a seaside cave while a huge thunderstorm is going on and just felt great. It’s a good thing work’s finishing up, there’s so much to play through I wouldn’t be able to get through it otherwise.
Excellent read. Would read again.

Excellent read.
More patience than me.
Oh yeah it totally could never have worked out with AJ.
She likes Monopoly.
Page 2 on a Monday? What madness is this?
So weekend was good.
Gaming wise completed a couple of the DLC for hand of fate. We started Her Story and I’m pretty sure it broke Mrs Tigs brain. Enjoying it so far but will see how long it is before we are in the mood to try again. I have a feeling that pad and pen will come out before we are done.
MPQ is doing a double ISO event which might just save me from losing some covers, will see how I go over the next few days.
Sunday I had to work the gadget expo, well I was more there in case something broke but it was fortunately all good so just wandered around a bit and had a look. Wanted to try some of the VR on offer but didn’t have the time to line up and wait in case I was needed. Tiglet came and we went out and had lunch which was nice. Chippies!
Otherwise we did some baking, made some oat and mixed fruit biscuits, not that great so will look for a different recipe next time I think. Still a bit sick around the house so I’m on dinner duty tonight so will probably grab something easy to chuck in the oven.
The more I try to read about the Brexit the more it boggles my mind it even happened. I clearly no longer understand the human race; is it normal to feel like an alien within your own species?
A friend of mine asked me to explain it to her on Saturday night. It gets more absurd the more you talk about it, especially with Boris out saying that they’ll be able to negotiate a deal that gets England essentially all of the perks, none of the quid pro quo. Lunacy.
A mixture of provincial populism, demagoguery, and sheer lack of understanding seems to be the case but it appears to be relatively easy to mislead people nowadays. The Remain camp never did a really good job of disproving the lies and exaggerations that Leave kept spewing and some Brits just couldn’t comprehend, or they willingly ignored, how much the EU benefited the UK. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Bit that gets me, is how much HM Government are floundering atm. There’s no plan. Surely a basic contingency/communication plan should have been developed.
It’s like they didn’t even expect to win and now don’t know what to do given they have. I keep trying to comprehend the possible economical fallout/long term financial repercussions across the region and I can’t even fathom where to begin. The possible domino effect has so many possible variables it’s almost incomprehensible with no discernible benefit to any involved parties.
None of the issues raised by the Leave group are actually systemic or in some cases even remotely connected to continuing to be a part of the EU. I just can’t come to terms with it.
The only course of action I can be somewhat certain of is that EU has to negotiate a fine line between reprimanding and maintaining good relations. It needs to hurt just the right amount, too much and you alienate existing partners and too little you strengthen far right political parties in countries that are looking for traction to leave.
I just find it hard to fathom that this whole vote was broken down to a spiel as simple as immigration and the bloody thing worked.
They didn’t, and they don’t.
Sounds like the last election here, really.
Short memories are the curse of the human race.
I was in tears. 🙁
About the only good argument I’ve heard is from one friend who’s parents own a company and reckons the regulation makes it impossible to do business in the rest of Europe, but I’m not sure how leaving the EU would improve that as they’d still be subject to the regulation…
And then my only other friend who was leave is all about the “faceless bureaucrats” and how people in Britain should be in charge of their own destiny (how that’s possible without a written constitution, a largely unelected Upper House and the aristocracy and business pulling the strings I don’t know)
Everyone else things this is one more step on the path to a meaner nastier England.
As for Scotland, good luck to them. And Wales, you bloody idiots.
If the UK DOES wind up leaving the EU, I’ll be cutting the last ties to the old country and formally renouncing citizenship.
Yeah, you poor bastard, that must suck arse. I hope they pull back from the cliff.
I think whether or not they leave the EU, we’ve seen the first part of end of the United Kingdom and the final death rattle of the British Empire. At the very least, Scotland is going to tell the rest of them to fuck off. Ireland might be a harder sell but I can see that happening too. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start hearing more rumblings about leaving the Commonwealth in Australia too.
EDIT: Was there anything further about Spain trying to claim Gibraltar back from them?
Well Sinn fein are already calling for a vote on the reunification of ireland.
Scotland will be interesting as apparently the UK government need to approve any vote on splitting
Any group is some percent idiots and another percent ignorant and another percent relatively informed and relatively not idiots.
But the idiots are the loudest and the ignorant thus listen and if they outnumber the third percent and you hand the fate of an entire country to an open vote… you find out exactly what those percentages are.
This is why we use indirect democracy not direct democracy: Bob the chicken shop owner does not have the knowledge and experience to run a country, so we elect people who’s job it is to acquire that knowledge and experience and let them make the final call.
The other thing is a binary choice does not capture the complexity of the situation, but that’s all people were given.
I don’t know enough myself to say whether or not they are doomed but interesting times for sure.
Right cos we’re seeing how well an indirect democracy works when looking locally on the issue of gay marriage?
A direct democracy puts the responsibility and consequence of decisions square on the shoulders of the electorate. If and when this happens corporations/governments would spend all their lobbying and campaign funds instead educating/marketing to the electorate making the decisions. For better or worse it would force people to be more informed and take a more active role in the running of the country which I think is the responsibility of every individual regardless of their level of stupidity.
Another factor a lot of news outlets are completely glazing over is that this anti-globalization movement is also being pushed forward by a large portion of the middle class that has suffered since the GFC (i.e. little to no movement economically) and represents a growing frustrating by populations that feel their voices aren’t being heard or responded to. It’s why Trump got so much traction in the US; voting for him meant voting for someone outside the established status quo (even though he’s batshit crazy). And a similar sentiment would’ve pushed the leave campaign into victory in the UK.
tl;dr – If Bob the chicken owner doesn’t have the knowledge to run the country he shouldn’t be allowed to decide who should. Which sounds extreme but the point I want to make is without an educated and well informed electorate democracy ceases to function as intended.
There’s a reason politician is a full time job though. A bit of googling and watching sponsored ads isn’t enough to get the knowledge of all the factors you need to make the right decisions but that’s all your average person is gonna be able/willing to do.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the current system is not perfect and our pollys are mostly fuckwits. But I thinking I know better than them on the finer points of running a country would be stupid.
I might have strong opinions on things but what I don’t have is the hard numbers or how they affect the bigger picture and everything else.
But if you’d have to be in the business of running the country to have that knowledge – that’s basically saying only pollys should be allowed to vote.
The difference between gay marriage and Brexit is complexity – the former is a single, clear cut issue that affects nothing else and is a social issue: the exact kinda thing a referendum is good for.
But the ramifications of Brexit is huge, complex and affects many things. And with the amount of disinformation that accompanies these things it’s no wonder this happened.
Which is why it’s not legally binding, and the government should suck it up up and refuse to tank the country, but they won’t.
I don’t think it needs to be a full time job, I think like with everything we’re seeing with technology a burden like running a country can be shouldered when spread across the millions of people that make up a population. I appreciate the need for dedicated ministers in certain sectors however the majority of politicians spend more time representing themselves than their electorate.
The fact that the existing democratic system has devolved into voting for which political party offends you the least is symptomatic of that fact. Between social media, media and news outlets there are plenty of ways for an individual to be informed of current events if they put aside an hour a day max. Heck at work I juggle doing my own full time work and research stocks for my personal portfolio which used to be part of my last job. There’s plenty of time in the day if people were forced to give a crap.
And I’m willing to bet I can/could do a better job than most politicians, in fact I’d also be willing to bet that just about everyone I know on TAY would make for better leaders of this country than the ones we presently have. A direct democracy forces voter engagement, because lets face it when people start paying for the stupid decisions they make for lack of engagement they’ll quickly learn they should be staying informed before voting.
I’m believe the average person can be and should be so much more than what you think they are, I also believe that once you teach people to care they can and will do a lot better job than our existing political system.
Would you care if I told you that the world’s central banks are presently playing a high stakes game of poker and if they lose everyday tax payers foot the bill? Would you care if I told you that since the GFC there has been little to no real income growth for almost 60-70% of the population in developed countries? Would you care if I told you that for half a million dollars you can buy yourself the right to citizenship? Would you care if I told you that two people of the same sex aren’t allowed to get married based on an archaic religious belief system that also taught us that women can never be allowed to teach? Or would you care that our governments along with a number of others are negotiating a TPP agreement that infringes on the sovereign rights of our country however not a single page of this document has been released to the public for scrutiny?
If you answered yes to most of these questions that means you care enough to make a difference but are unable to in the existing system.
Edit: It’s worth noting that almost any topic you have an opinion can be backed by research that you could do in half an hour. I think the people want to care, and they want to know and be educated before they vote. They’ve just stopped trying to do so because they system is stacked against them. Information is not easy to come by, nothing is ever collated on a single issue, even the Brexit the best articles I read summarizing it come from a law firm in Britain and a local managed fund.
I see where you are coming from.
But as you say, accurate information is hard to come by. Especially information free of corporate bias.
With those topics you mentioned; I am aware, but even in a direct democracy what would I do about it? How would I find the solution to those problems?
Someone has to collate the information into simple terms that can be voted on. So you’d select people who’s opinions line up with yours to do so. But then you just have conformation bias.
You’d need a 100% neutral third party with access to all the information, but that’s impossible outside of an Ai designed for just that purpose.
And what about classified information?
And how should people vote? On everything from local to federal? Even just federal level policys, that’s a lot of voting. It’d have to be online but security would be a mad problem.
Maybe, ultimately it would be the go.
But I think it almost impossible to implement and more likey in any case that corporations will continue to gain more and more influence.
Money rules the world after all.
Well yes, if we continue on our present course corporations running the world with token governments is the next likely step in democracy. That being said we are heading towards quite the iceberg, between increased economic instability and an increasingly frustrated and helpless middle class we have the recipes in place for radical and violent change.
With regards to collating information it wouldn’t even need to be an AI, information packs put together by public sector information centres that provide facts/arguments for/against any legislation. I find that almost all topics can be reduced to a few pages of worthwhile information when you take the op ed media pieces that float around and call themselves news.
We’ve created regulatory bodies to monitor consumer protection, corporate competition, etc. Would it really be so hard to create one filled with academics to verify information packs provided to electorates/councils?
I don’t think much will change.
People are frustrated with their lot and their leaders but when has that not been true. As you said, we’ve given up trying to care. And the comfort of our daily lives is not being impacted enough to spark a revolution or some such.
If anything, Brexit will reinforce that – the people rose up and chose change and more independence! And now their quality of life is gonna take a hit.
I don’t agree with all of that but you’re right about Trump. He can be quoted as contradicting himself in no uncertain terms and people just shrug it off as ‘oh, all the politicians do that’. They’ve created an environment where faith in the system is so low that distancing yourself from it is a huge positive. The other candidates are votes for a system that people feel has completely abandoned even pretending to be concerned about them. I’ve been saying it for years but if the US had a King his head would have rolled a long time ago, but people just don’t know how to deal with a broken system.
Burnie Sanders saw a lot of that too. He was basically the same thing but for people who considered themselves smart, logical and progressive instead of real and not afraid to tell it like it is. He just wasn’t pushy enough to get past the candidate his party wanted to support.
@jocon and dogman you guys should check out a Requiem for the American Dream on netflix by Noam Chomsky. It’s a really interesting documentary which is a little too philosophical at times but covers a lot of key concepts about how the economy and capitalism have served to break the system from what it was. Even if you disagree with the ideals it’s a good watch for the general knowledge.
Haven’t you ever read the comments section on an article about climate change/domestic violence/SSM/immigration/islam? Apparently those are other humans saying things.
The Brexit confuses me to no end – what are the trade numbers? Something like 60% of exports and 40% of imports are with EU member nations, so now they’ll withdraw and lose their say in a whole bunch of trade regulation but still be bound by it – and that’s somehow going to benefit them? Yeah, I’m sure the rest of the EU will give them favourable trade deals…
The Daily Mail apparently kept telling it’s readers that Brexit was a good thing. Now they’ve gone & listed all the bad reasons about Brexit & why it’s not a good thing after the leave vote won. Also apparently the MP (or whoever it was) that said that the 350 million pounds a week that was being spent on being in the EU would go to the NHS, a claim which (I think) Boris Johnson backed but also didn’t which also won them votes. Which now has come out as “Yeah that was never gonna happen” or whatever. The whole thing is a fucking mess. I feel really sorry for my friends over there, they voted to remain & now everything is up in the air.
So over the weekend I managed to prestige in Overwatch. Did it all by myself, didn’t get the 20% exp boost when playing in a team.
I also finally finished Wild Arms 3, a game I rented back 13 years ago but never finished. Feels good to get that done. Although, if anybody is thinking of buying this game on PS4 then I suggest waiting for a patch, because this is one of the most unstable games I’ve ever played. This game crashed on me at least 30 times. All happening in combat, usually during a spell getting cast. There was no consistency between what spells would cause a crash or not, or if it was done by your party or the enemy. Sometimes your spells against the enemy would crash the game, sometimes they didn’t. Sometimes when the enemy casts a spell on you it crashes, sometimes they don’t. The only spells that didn’t cause a crash were healing and buffs.
Other than that the game was pretty good, had some of the best puzzles and side quests I’ve seen in a JRPG. I think I really liked how for a JRPG it was rather non-linear. You can’t find dungeons (even story based dungeons) or towns on the world map unless someone tells you where to look for it. Speaking to NPCs you can open up paths that you’re not supposed to reach just yet. For example, the first world map vehicle you get are horses, but you need to pay 5,000 bucks to get them. They’re not needed in the story until several hours later. If you explore you can get the sandcraft a whole lot earlier, allowing you to travel the desert seas.
At one point you can get your air vehicle like, 10 hours before you actually need it. Although most of those 10 hours were me completing side quests.
Even with that you still need to explore around and find stuff. Hell, one part of the game requires you to get 4 new summons before progressing through the story, but finding them all feel like side quests themselves, which you can do way earlier than you need to. One requires you to fight in the arena, defeat 5 battles within 25 turns, get an item, then explore the world map with this item searching an idol needed to get one of the summons.
Another idol requires you to find the secret ‘tougher than the last story dungeon’ dungeon and finish the first 10 of 100 floors.
I also eventually finished that 100 floor dungeon. It’s tough because you can’t save during it, but I managed to avoid all non-boss battles, which still took me over 2 hours of traveling. Then I reached the bottom and fought the typical JRPG ‘stronger than the final boss’ hidden boss. Where I tensed up every time a spell was cast, since the game might crash. Then I went on to fight the final boss and the game crashed. Yay.
Other side quests involve searching the world map for 15 towers to fight (literally fighting the towers) which summoned up UFO and aliens for me to fight, eventually resulting in an air battle with my transformer dragon jet against the UFO Mothership. I’m not exaggerating here.
I pretty much did everything in the game. Except for one side quest that literally requires grinding (more grinding then when I grinned to level 100). Late in the game you have to find an earlier tutorial dungeon, walk through to find a spinning orb thing you had to walk past during the tutorial then play the music dolls. You fight 4 small red humanoid things whose stats were all 1. You then trigger the side quest, where once per dungeon visit you might fight these guys again. Once you kill them you must leave the dungeon, travel to another dungeon and walk around until you fight them again. Once dead you leave, find another dungeon, fight again. You do this 100 times before the quest is complete. Apparently this takes like 5 hours to do. Fuck that.
The story and characters were pretty good too. One point a character hinted at dying and I actually got worried, surprisingly myself that I really cared about this character. Also in todays ‘need more women in gaming’ scare articles, here’s Wild Arms 3 with a female protagonist. Her story is pretty good and despite the troubles she faces she never loses on her ideology. But you know, female protagonists don’t exist.
Man, I really miss JRPGS. Let’s see if Rogue Galaxy is any fun.
Outside, it’s 10C and raining. Inside it’s maybe 15C… Why the hell is the A/C on?! *makes note to bring jumper tomorrow*
29C here today. Mid 20s for the rest of the week.
I don’t get to gloat much because the weather here’s generally shit, but the summer is really nice.
Hey Queenslanders, guess who’s coming back to his home state?
This guy!
I am flying into Brisbane on the 7th of July and flying out again on the 12th – make yourselves available to me during this time!
If someone is willing/able to organise some kind of large meat (kek), so much the better!
Also, I totally want to get a steak from the Breakfast Creek Hotel – last one I had there (about 10 years ago) was the best I’ve ever had. So if people are keen for that even.
People still get tagged in spoilers, right? Right.
@beardymcmuttonchops @beeawwb @cufcfan616 @dc @freezespreston @greenius @gutsoup @janexo @jimu @lambomann007 @popdart5 @rocketman @sernobulus @strange @sughly @transientmind @welbot @virus__Also @blaghman or something.
Yes, I will be there from the sixth until the tenth, but there’s only even odds that I can make a meat on the 9th (Saturday), since I have a family reuinion, but I’d love to hang with people whenever they’re available.
We can go and get lunch and wander round Brisvegas and shit.
Is communal pooping what you young people do these days?
Brisbane has THE best public toilets
Breakfast Creek is a bit of a dead zone now, but I think the hotel is still there. Some of the tunnel exits pop out right in front of the river the & destroyed all the views.
I will meat you somewhere though.
Could always try here. http://www.normanhotel.com.au/ Brisbane’s Worst Vegetarian Restaurant!
Balls. I’m sure the family will be able to recommend somewhere decent given how thoroughly redneck they can be haha.
QUEEN SLANDER!!!
VA-11 HALL-A
Goty.
Last song played game time!!
Busy Bees by Silversun Pickups
What was YOUR last song played?
What are you watching? Playing?
Got a hobby?
It’s Gonna Be Fine – The Pants Collective (Andy Strachan drummer of The Living End’s solo debut)
Watching? Well it was the finale of Silicon Valley last night, wasn’t their best finale, but was still damn good. Playing? Haven’t played anything since last week since i’ve been working every night 🙁
Hobby? Not really.. I don’t have time for a hobby. I used to play guitar & bass, but it’s been way too long since I picked either up and played. I should really get back in to it.
Darker Times – In Flames. Cheery bunch. 😛 But really cool riffs.
Binged some Black Books on the weekend after a few hours in the crucible. That part in The Entertainer where Manny realises he can play piano always cheers me up. 😛
Still cracking through on Destiny, passing the time until the reset tonight. Will probably try to get the “Trials Practice” quest done before Trials resumes on Friday… Trying to get some more time with Rocksmith, too – should just devote an hour a day to noodling about in Session mode.
Last Song Played: Something from David Bowie’s Low album, not sure which track it was as I ran out the door to get the kids to school.
Watching: Preacher, GoT, Bojack Horseman, Archer, – right now, The Man Who fell to Earth (listening to the Commentary track which is excellent)
Playing: 4 Player Halo on the couch with the kids
Hobby: Film Restoration of old Feature Films, Cosplay creation for the rest of the Fam.
Teaching little fingers to play – garbage
Well we just finished season 2 of daredevil so nede to decide on our next show. So I guess Octonauts is most common at the moment
I like to follow pro cycling which is probably as hobby as I get
I thoroughly enjoyed the GoT season finale last night. It’s seems like they’re making an effort to tie off a number of loose threads and consolidating a few storylines into something more appropriate for television.
At least there’s a Stark stalking around the Riverlands killing Freys, even if it’s not Lady Stoneheart. Maisie Williams did a great psycho stare in that scene – bitch be cray cray.I enjoyed the finale and I wonder what will happen next season. Spoilered thoughts for next season.
Considering Cersei did the equivalent of Guy Fawkes, I can’t see her surviving long in the next season. I expect to see her get murdered (possibly even by Jaime) before Daenerys even arrives with her army. What that means for the rest of the season is anyone’s guess at that point.I agree with Arya being a psycho badass and murdering Freys but, at the same time, I can’t think of anyone that’s still important in the Riverlands besides her, Brienne, and Pod. The Freys and the Tullys are basically wiped out at this point and everyone that’s worth following will move on to more interesting places. Bye bye Riverlands.
Have they confirmed how many more seasons there will be? I can see them wrapping everything up in the next season and I don’t really want them to drag it out even longer.
Two more eight episode seasons, IIRC.Jamie is totally going to have to put Cersei down. Maggy (the fortune teller/woods witch/whatever) told her that “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” – valonqar, according to google is High Valeryan for “little brother”.
Who’s ruling the Stormlands? There are no more Baratheons.
I loved the finale. As morbid as it was, my favourite scene was Tommen doing a bad Assassin’s Creed Leap of Faith impression. The lead up to the moment – soundtrack, editing, and then the framing of the actual shot was superb.
I think there are some interesting plot points left to tie up though, Littlefinger and Sansa, Bran and Jon’s revelation, The Wall (it’s gotta come down right?)…
Oh man.. i’m late on board this train.. but Orange is the New Black.
SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD!
Bee and i started watching the night before last and have just finished ep 4 of season one.
Man this show is all sorts of great.
It’s the right balance of drama and haha.
It’s a really good show. I was so satisfied with the status quo that every time they introduced a new turn in the plot I was like “nooo the show will be surely ruined” and then it only got better. I’m only 4 eps into season 4 but it’s been really strong so far.
I’m super happy to hear that – too many shows have been ruined by that sort of thing imho.
When watching ep 4 last night, i was actually super worried about that with 2 arc, one being the missing scredriver, and 2 being the butch and and her ex that was getting to leave. I was like “oh shit here we go.. this is going to be a complete clusterfluff”… But then they went through the whole story arc in a really satisfying way. It was really good.
Add to the fact that all the characters are really interested and I don’t find myself intensely hating anyone just yet.. well aside from the guard with the bad porno stasche. He’s a massssive dick.
Also – crazy eyes is sooo freakin’ awesome! hahahaha
I can’t stand the main two characters, but love the rest of the show.
So, there’s some pretty fucken sweet EOYS deals going around for tech stuff atm.
Got an email from Shopping Express yesterday high-lighting their deals which start today, I think i’ve bought from them before which is why I am on their mailing list. I’m pretty keen on their SSD deals, especially that Samsung Evo 950 256GB NVME M.2 SSD for $195.
There’s also 5 Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1080’s available for $999 which is just an insane price.
It is really insane when Newegg has them for nearly $100 less.
But they don’t have the Gigabyte G1 Gaming which is a beast of a card according to the reviews i’ve seen. Newegg only have 3 AIB cards & they’re all out of stock anyway :/
Finally, the season finale of Game of thrones. The agony is finally over for another year.
Season 6 episode 10: The Recaps of Winter.
Sansa seeks out a speech therapist to help cure her Innuenditis (double entendre that cause localised swelling) but the therapist simply keeps trying to pay her for her time instead of vice versa. Losing her temper Sansa attempts to express her frustration by swearing viciously as she leaves the office, inventing several new fetishes and a religion. The locals build a temple in her honour.
As the reluctant elected Queen of the Free Cities, Arya appoints a series of corrupt con-men as viziers in the hopes he will try to usurp her throne but the people rise up against them at the slightest hint of treachery. In desperation Arya tries to flee the castle but her guards stand in formation at the gates. Their captain steps forward and gently leads her back to her tower, saying “It’s a nice monarchy we’ve got here, be a shame if something happened to it.”
Jon Snow arrives in Mereen during a massive celebratory parade thrown for the new Queen, making it nearly impossible to investigate the truth about his long distance girlfriend. He decides he hit a bar and get something to eat, literally bumping into Daenerys, Drogon, Jorah and Jorah’s bear-wife who are just leaving the “I Paid Diseased Homeless Men to Rub Their Penises on the Food Steakhouse and Brewery”. As Daenerys helps pick up the love letters which have scattered everywhere she recognises her own handwriting. As realisation dawns about the correspondence, their eyes and they instantly fall in love. Jorah, who thought he was finally getting somewhere, exclaims “REALLY?”
Podrick, dishevelled, battered and generally looking considerably the worse for wear, brings Brienne a pot of something he insists must be elbow grease. Brienne cautiously asks where he got it, to which Podrick will only respond “please don’t ask”.
In front of the assembled people of the city, Cersei and Margaerey award Jamie the Imperial Seal and the Night’s King’s ice sword as proof of his great deeds so he can return home to his family having restored their honour. Bronn asks the Queens if they fancy a quick shag and they’re too embarrassed to say no in front of everyone, which is pretty much Bronn’s game plan. Jamie has to sit outside and wait for Bronn, assuring himself that honour is way better than whatever window-rattling event is going on on the other side of the paper thin wall.
Tyrion and Varys return home to Mereen and check in on Arya’s castle. The captain assures them that everything is under control, and their good luck charm isn’t going anywhere. They all share a hearty chuckle reminiscing about the time Arya locked them in a basement at knifepoint, and look up at the tower as the camera fades to black and the credits roll. After the credits Arya looks out across the city and tries to remember a time when her customers didn’t pay their bills. “Those were the days” she sighs.
This weekend I sat around feeling kind of listless. Played a ton of Nights of Azure, think I’m probably about 70% through. Weird, weird game. Kind of reminds me of Nier though it’s not as good. Though it has 100% more lesbian undertones. But I kind of like it. Hoping to knock it off next weekend or so, so that I can grab something else off the pile – currently have Trails of Cold Steel, Doom & Senran Kagura EV unfinished, and Odin Sphere, Bravely Second, FE: Fates and Atelier Sophie staring at me asking for their turn too, Tokyo Mirage Sessions is in the mail (had to buy from OzGameShop because PAL Wii U 🙁 ) and Star Ocean 5 should arrive today. Too many long games. 🙁
Also spent some time last night playing World of Warships. Ran a bunch of games in Kongou and finally finished the first ARP quest to do 800k damage and unlock the ARP Kirishima, so now I have a fluro green battleship. Which is cool. But I really want Haruna. Quests are only in for 3 weeks and I was busy for most of that time with my Mum visiting so didn’t get to play much and now I have until Thursday to finish out the rest of the Haruna quest line, which means doing another ~860k damage and then getting top 5 in at least a Tier 6 ship. Initially was doing well with Fusou but it was beginner’s luck, and I proceeded to find her to play like crap. Lots of guns, but very slow, and you have to broadside to use all the guns well. Tends to encourage long-range spray and pray which is very RNG-heavy. So I swapped to Myoukou. I do alright in that ship but my accuracy is all over the place and I was struggling to do damage, averaging about 40k. Still, that’s only about 22 games to play left if I can keep the pace up. So I might make it to Haruna after all. Fingers crossed!
Apparently Wargaming are gearing up to release the USS Arizona (has been spotted in testing and stuff). Thinking that the 4th of July is next Monday so that seems the most likely time. Also hoping that the Arpeggio stuff continues into July – other regions also got a chance to pick up Hiei and Haguro and we haven’t in the US server yet. Would love them to give another chance to get ARP Kongou and Myoukou too.
(By the way if anyone plays WoWS on US server, add me! atomicstrawberry)
Watched a bit of anime on the weekend too. Finished some stuff. HaiFuri ended really well, probably the show i enjoyed most that season. Flying Witch done with too, plus a few others. I think the best show of the season was Re:Zero but that’s continuing straight in for a full 24-episode run so that’s great. Lots of stuff starting next weekend.
I remember when I had time for long games
So, found out last night that Primal got a sneaky HD remaster on PS4. Really enjoyed it at the time, I’m utterly sure it won’t hold up but looking forward to finding out.
Also, I know it’s not where the username comes from, but one of the two main characters is called @scree
Sorry
Musing on those amazing Battlefront level vids posted earlier, and how awesome Rogue Leader looked back on the GameCube’s launch. Then realised that was nearly half my lifetime ago.
Help I want to go to bed now.
woo!
Got my Blu Ray drive re-connected to my PC.
Had to push it in just a little further.
#Page6inmyheart
But no ,seriously, that actually was the problem. It’s fixed now, though! \o/
Ooh, Fire Emblem’s in. Detour on the way home I guess.
I’ve been playing that all weekend, I’m only halfway through Birthright and already had to buy the other 2 games + map packs. I may have a problem….
I’m sure I’ll get to it someday 😛
Also I pretty much only bought this game because I had a chance to get the full version, with the DLC on the cart. I’m probably the one with the problem.
TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES ON KOTAKU AUSTRALIA
it has 100% more lesbian undertones. But I kind of like it.
That doesn’t sound like Tay at all =P
Welp, you’re pretty much the only one that can fix that. Off you go 😛
Sorry?
That’s ok.
@jocon a quote from an article –
I don’t see the linkage to intra-state war yet, at least in the west. I can see civil unrest.
I imagine that’s likely to come from global financial collapse if QE keeps up. Failing economies mixed civil unrest and xenophobia provide plenty of opportunity for war.
I can’t see it in Europe. There’s an entire treaty structure and common economy there that wasn’t there last time.
In the middle east, maybe.
I don’t mean Europe fighting with itself I mean, world powers being pushed towards friction and eventual confrontation. I wouldn’t count any of the EU countries individually as a world power.
Is it really so far fetched? Wasn’t too long ago Russia decided to expand it’s borders without fear of consequence. Also wasn’t too long ago Russia was siding with Assad to grow their sphere of influence within the region.
The USA basically goes through this in generational cycles though. Civil war in the 1860s, Mexicans in the 1880s, invading Cuba at the turn of the Century, the Red Scare in the 20s, McCarthyism in the mid 40s to mid 50s, race-related riots and anti-war rioting in the late 60s and 70s… a dry spell, then the War on Terror, and now here we are again.
EDIT: Actually the Mexicans were the bad guys in the 1840s, 1880s was the Indians and Blacks that were being fucked over hardest by angry assholes.
Got my computer fixed yesterday after an arduous weekend of crashes. I stopped by the old computer shop where I used to work. Or still work. I might still be listed as an employee, but I’m on permanent leave until my knee gets better. It’s weird, I spent half the day talking to the manager behind the counter, and the other half on the other side not sure whether to act like an employee or a customer.
The problem was definitely tied to my SSD being full. Surprisingly, the reason it was full was not tied to Avast, but very large system page files caused by the RAM. I bought a 250GB SSD from the store, cloned the data over, then deleted the data on the original SSD, making the new SSD the default. Since the original SSD still worked, it’s now plugged in as a Temp drive.
The manager noticed some problems with my Hard Drive while he was cloning the SSD; it was making odd noises and was relatively slow. He cloned the data onto a test Hard Drive, and it was a tiny bit faster. We decided that it wasn’t really worth it to change the Hard Drive and we just left it as it was.
Due to the weird employee discount scheme, I only pay for materials and not labour. I slipped the manager a $10 note because I felt bad for taking up so much of his time.
I discussed with the manager a way for me to come back to work. My leg is still fucked, so I can’t do any lifting, basically 90% of my job. Hopefully something can get worked out.
So yeah, with my computer working, I should eventually get around to playing Crusader Kings II. The desire to play it has faded a bit since Saturday, though.
Nah man
Eugenics and fratricide simulator 4 lyf. Get that feudalism up ya
I’m feeling a lot more in the mood today, so I’m going to try it.
God damnit, CKII still keeps crashing upon startup. And I just realise that I paid the full $40.00 a few days ago, but now it’s on sale for just $10.00. I might just refund the game if it doesn’t work.
EDIT: I got annoyed at trying to get it to work for 15 minutes so I went and played Democracy 3 instead.
That sounds a lot like a bung drive to me. Probably not crashed, but the motor might be shot. Seagate drive?
Maybe. I think it might be a Western Digital hard drive, though. The manager said that the needle thing that scans the plate or disc (I’ve forgotten the name of the components of a HDD) is temporarily getting stuck on the plate and skipping. It’s a relatively minor problem at the moment, so I’m not focusing on getting it fixed right now.
Get the data off the drive ASAP and ditch it. Even if you still can read from it, it’s on its last legs. It’ll slow down your whole machine, plus the data will eventually be unrecoverable.

How’s that going? Still buggy atm?
Seems to be working fine for me
Sorry for the double post guys. @jocon and @lucifer9785 I am so sorry that you had to hear my Mum and I arguing with my brother. I’m sorry that it interrupted our play, I was just so angry. I know it couldn’t be helped and I probably should have muted, but I was too pissed off to use my brain properly.
TL:DR
Sorry
Shit happens. All good.
Thanks
=O Upload it to youtube!
(I kid, hope everything’s ok!)
He made a big song and dance and wanted his car behind mine. Surprise, surprise, he’s still asleep and we’re up.
You should just smash one of the windows and take the handbrake off and push it out into the street!
Jokes aside I don’t know how you guys live/handle someone like that.
I want him out. But it’s not my house
Wow, close call. Went to buy something off 365games, but it turned out they’d just disabled the coupon code for AU deliveries. Saw someone post a method of getting around that and it seemed to work, so was sitting there waiting to see whether they might cancel the order because of funny business. Ended up getting a notification that it had despatched, woo! Then had a friend tell me they’d just killed off free shipping too. Double close call.

Would have thought you’d go for “Get that feudalism up ya”
Definitely my favourite eugenics simulator.
There’s a back-of-the-box quote for Paradox.

Good morning TAY

Episode 69 – Fashion Week – Welcome to Night Vale
What are YOU listening to?
Whatever song that was playing in that iPad game my son is playing.
Shipping up to Boston – Dropkick Murphys
Fun fact: I fucked my shoulder up throwing a crowdsurfer at one of their gigs.
Great now I’m thinking about The Departed…. =P
I really enjoyed The Departed – Dropkick Murphys were a nice surprise for me.
Rime of the Ancient Mariner – Iron Maiden.
Can anyone recommend a good free backup program?
The Windows one is being dicky about making a system backup.
Do you want to back up specific files or do you want to clone your drive?
Clone the drive so if my impending win 10 upgrade borks I can restore.
But currently win backup thinks my raided storage drives are a system drive and won’t let me exclude it.
http://clonezilla.org/ is good and free, assuming you don’t mind what’s basically a bootable linux distro that does stuff through a very barebones interface.
EDIT: I’ve only used it once and it was a while ago though.
Win10 upgrade can be rolled back assuming you’re going from 8.1 or 7 and not doing a clean install. In my experience it hasn’t really fucked anything up much, and I’m installing new Win10 builds quite often. Had to get off the bleeding edge on my home machine due to stability issues is all.
Well, that was one heck of a nightfall… Pity it got fixed. Malok is an awesome fight, but Undying Mind is such a bullet sponge. And the splash damage! Oh god, the splash damage…
Gotta say I really appreciate that the assistant manager at my local EB Games looks out for me since working for him. He was telling me the other day that the store was getting another manager (third one since the manager I worked under left), and he said come in and meet him and he’ll try and get me some hours which would be sweet, since i’m always after more money & liked working for EB, they were good to me here. But it also turns out I know this new manager, I had met him a few times at his old store & a previous interview I had for the company. He’s a cool dude, he also started out at this store so that’s nice.
@saturday
Meat pies?
Mate, this is happening when we PAX:
https://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/premier-meat-pies-seattle
I am convinced that people this side of the Pacific can not do a Meat Pie, but I’m always willing to be proven wrong.
Also Fish and Chips. Beer batter, guys, it’s not hard. Light and crispy. Not dense and solid and greasy, ugh.
Oh god. I grew up in a Fish&Chip shop. My dad was proud of his chips, so minor rant, as I’m still looking for a place that does decent chips in Sydney..
Seriously, drain them lightly, toss them in butcher’s paper to leech off excess oil, add a little salt and seasoning and toss again to get good even coverage, then bundle them up in a sheet of grease-proof and butcher’s paper and poke holes in the top for ventilation. And never, ever, ever put chips in a plastic bag. I mean, now that I write it out, it is a bit more effort than a lot of places put in, but it all seems so logical to me if you even half-way give a damn about what you’re serving.
Maybe it’s cos it was my first job, maybe it’s cos it was/is my dad’s passion, but a lot of it seems blatantly obvious to me.
If you’re after good chips in Sydney, there’s a little fish and chip shop at North Curl Curl – (close enough you can walk down to the beach to eat them). They do chips with fresh cut potatoes, and proudly advertise this fact – the consistency is more varied but the flavour is so much better than frozen potato chips. Burgers are pretty good too.
Wow.
There’s also these guys there: http://www.australianpieco.com/
I prefer Frey brand pies. Try the Family Feast(TM)

Well I’m still on my way to the Crab Nebula.
But interesting news – looks like Jaques Station has been located! Jaques was attempting to jump his station from near human space all the way to Beagle Point, 67000 light years from Sol. He failed and was lost. But just now… http://imgur.com/a/5yGaL

Also, I just reached the Crab Pulsar. Heading back to the Bubble from tomorrow.
Thank fuck the election is only 3 days away. I can’t wait until I stop seeing the smear campaigns from all involved parties including the supporters. The lies I see friends saying about the parties that are running is like “Yeah and the p[arty you’re supporting encourages this childish behaviour, why would I vote for a child to run a country?”
For me it is simply down to public school funding, I work in them and know how much it is needed.
Seems fair. For me it’d be penalty rates. Currently Saturday night & Sunday are the reason I have an okay weekly pay.
Also bought The Hateful Eight & Deadpool today, both came with codes for digital HD versions of the movies. Up for grabs for whoever wants them. I’ve no need for them since i’ve never used one of these digital thingies.

Aw dang it, got a comment stuck in moderation 🙁 curses those 2 links! @markserrels help please?
After seeing that article about the steelbook’s as wall art I asked the partner and she is keen.
2 questions she asked me though were:
How to make it?
Where to buy steelbooks that aren’t too expensive?
Any websites you guys know of?
Yeah that’s pretty cool.
Be hard to find though since they only come with collector’s editions and such.
Best bet is eBay and gumtree, maybe trawl eb or even cashies for second hand games. Might get lucky.
I remember a couple of years ago there was a guy on eBay who had a rental shop or something and he was selling just the boxes for the US version of Metroid Prime Trilogy (which came in a steelbook unlike our local one) for a fairly decent price, think it came to about $14 or so. Grabbed one just for collection’s sake 😛
Ask around here. There’s quite a few of us that hate Steelbooks and will potentially swap them for plastic cases. If I was still in AU I’d throw you a few of mine.
When are you coming back? 😛
Possibly never 🙁
I played the Destiny beta a couple of years ago. It bored me enough to avoid the full game. Hearing about everything happening in the game I decided to wait on getting it.
So I managed to get the game cheap some time ago and currently playing through. I’m level 15 so I’ve put some time into it. So I have to ask, how the hell did anybody tolerate this crap? This is one the most boring, repetitive games I’ve played in a long time. I don’t care about anything in this game. I don’t care about the enemies, the world, the story, or even getting loot. Hell, I barely react when I get shot now. I just keep aiming down the sights at red bars and pulling the trigger. Then a boss appears and I sit there for 20 minutes shooting at his yellow health bar until the loot scream appears.
It was fun to log in and tool around with friends in.
It’s a co-op multiplayer. Single player is indeed repetitive and dull.
Level 15 is not where the fun is…
Although maybe it’s just not for you. That’s cool.
Yea… I’m not going to even try to defend Destiny’s storytelling – it’s atrocious codswallop. Its mission structure is, for the vanilla content at least, extremely samey. They start to get better at telling the story and mixing in new mechanics in the TTK quests. The grimoire is still fascinating, for me at least, and I’m still uncovering things I’d missed on first read – like the fact that the Cabal are using psions’ telekinetic abilities destabilise Phobos’ orbit in order to weaponise it against the Vex on Mars – but that’s the lore, not the plot. It’s background.
Essentially, If you like the gunplay and the movement, see it through to at least the TTK questline. There are some neat mechanics that get introduced in the raids, Skolas, the Challenge of Elders, the newer strikes… Echo Chamber or The Darkblade are pretty good examples of a basic mechanic they added for a newer strike.
But if you don’t enjoy the gunplay, you’ll probably not get anything more out of it in the endgame. As they say, “gameplay is king” – if you don’t enjoy the core mechanics, it might not be for you, and that’s perfectly fine.
And playing co-op makes a huge difference – this is not a game you can enjoy solo. I was ready to call it quits at level 24 (iirc) after exhausting all the solo content soon after launch, but I saw someone in TAY asking for people interested in trying VoG, so I figured – what the hell. So glad I did – that blind Vault attempt, and finishing it over 4-5 sessions over the next couple of weeks, counts among the best co-op experiences I’ve ever had.
Cabal are using psions’ telekinetic abilities destabilise Phobos’ orbit in order to weaponise it against the Vex on Mars
…I have no idea what you just said since I don’t even know what the factions are. As far as I can tell there’s Guardians, and red bars.
The only benefit I’ve seen to co-op is that since you have extra guns, all enemies die faster. So the real benefit is that you’re playing less of the game. How is that a positive point? If you play with friends you play only half the content!
I like the gameplay, it’s Bungie, it’s following in Halo. Half of the time I don’t even aim down the sights since I don’t need to. But I’m not interacting with the world or the enemies. I’m just doing the same thing over and over again. Whenever a new enemy type pops up I just shoot it. Oh, it’s not doing anything new and just dies. Now to shoot all 99 same enemies that just spawned in for the 4th time.
The Vex you’d have met on Venus, if you’re there yet? Robotic beings, explode in white goo. Goblins, hobgoblins, minotaurs, harpies, etc. The Cabal are a race you’ll meet on Mars – they’re big brutish space tortoises following a Roman naming convention – centurions, phalanx, psions, etc.
It sounds like your other issue is that it’s too easy? Yea, the levelling questlines are ridiculously easy, and even on heroic difficulties, it just adds tedium instead of complexity… but endgame is a bit different. I’ve found, aside from co-op adding a “shoot the shit while we shoot shit” social aspect, in nightfalls and raid activities you can’t really stand still and take much fire. At that point, co-op is the difference between rising frustration as you go back to a checkpoint repeatedly for things outside your control, and laughing it off as your teammates frantically try to get you back up without getting themselves killed.
The more interesting endgame stuff, tho, is more about juggling different, occasionally competing, objectives while keeping adds at bay to stay alive. It’s a pity that that’s not really seen below nightfalls or raid-level activities these days. And a huge downside to Taken King is that the endgame gets delayed for new players – I got a fresh character to max level in about 8 hours last January, and running dailies in a couple of days – it took me a good week or so last September to work through all the quests that pop up after you finish the TTK campaign.
Echo Chamber, a strike on Venus (min level 20-30, iirc), requires specific action on the players part to make the boss vulnerable for a time – it’s pretty contrived, but an early example of Bungie trying to bring more mechanics into their matchmade activities. Skolas, in the Prison of Elders (level 35), has a similar mechanic, but will also poison one of your team, causing them to die if someone else doesn’t take it from them within about 25 seconds, at which point they can’t take it back for 30 seconds, so the poison has to be passed around between the three of you while dealing damage to the boss, controlling adds, and dismantling mines across the map. The last encounter in the King’s Fall raid requires six people accomplishing five different things (one of those things being a jumping puzzle to retrieve an item, the others admittedly being kill stuff quickly so three people in exposed positions holding the jumping puzzle open don’t get melted by enemy fire) at the same time in order to make the boss vulnerable to damage, and even then, the only consequential damage you deal to him is via the mechanics of the encounter, not your weapons.Tl;dr: If you need story told through the game, Destiny isn’t going to live up to your expectations. If you need more complexity, try out the Prison of Elders when you can access it (TTK moved level requirements around a bit, so not sure when it would be), otherwise VoG or Skolas is your best bet before endgame, but you’ll need a group for those two.
I can ignore the story if it’s bad. My problem is that there’s really no variation between the enemies, and any enemies that do have special abilities are just pointless. I shoot a Hobgoblin, he bends over glowing red, being immune to my attacks, gets back up and dies. I shoot a Knight, he summons up a black shield, the shield goes away and he dies. Like, what’s the point? It’s not like these abilities are buffing or protecting anybody else. In fact, I don’t think buffing or debuffing exists in this game at all. So weird considering this is an RPG.
Also, I’ve reached a point where I’m just fucking sick of regenerative health. Destiny could have been the game that finally killed that trend, instead of waiting until Doom and Overwatch to do it for them.
Again, that kind of stuff happens later in the game – way more complex mechanics in the later Strikes and Raids, and the Court of Oryx and Prison of Elders.
…and the thing about regenerative health is missions where it doesn’t are very entertaining.
But why can’t that happen now? Why didn’t Bungie design their first 20 hours to be entertaining? Why can’t update their game to improve all that content? Why would I ever consider starting a new class, knowing I have to suffer 20 hours of boredom again?
…wait, there are missions where it doesn’t recover. That sounds horrible!
I actually don’t mind the early missions. And with co-op, it’s possible to get through them pretty fast.
Muahaha. Yup. That’s where the clever use of builds and squads comes in – having a Titan with an orb-generating shield bubble with temporary immunity, and then a Warlock with healing and a Hunter with golden gun for megadamage. It’s funny the combos you can run. Some of the weapons restore tiny amounts of health.
And the weapons. That’s where I think the game shines, there are a lot of weapons that encourage different play styles.
Huh, oh well… I picked it up a month ago and i’m having the best freaking time with it! been pretty much my go to game most nights when not playing Elite… Different strokes i guess 🙂
@popdart5 @tech_knight @blaghman sorry gents, no Numernera tonight, been sick and my voice is not much chop
All good Red. Hope you get better soon.
You and me both, Red. Get well soon, buddy!
Man. Just had a farewell lunch – for me, as well as two others who are leaving next week, and in general since the whole team’s kind of disbanding now. Sooooooo muuuuuuch foooooooood. With very high cheese content. Should not have had that last piece of chorizo pizza.
Don’t think I’ll need dinner tonight.
I found a parcel card in the mailbox today.
Well, hopefully I can pick up my copy of Starcraft: Brood War tomorrow.
Failing that, I hope it’s my copy of Armored Core 4.
Anyone who’s interested in the visual novel stuff, I have the first draft of the introduction.
IntroSetting: Train carriage
Beth: Having second thoughts, Matt?
Matt: Hm? Oh, no, I was just thinking how I will deal with the situation, when it comes up.
Beth: Why not tell the truth?
Matt: Yeah, right. That’ll turn out well. “hey, I really like you and all but you see, when I was a baby, the gods got jealous and cursed me so when I have a relationship, natural disasters happen. ” Yup, that will go down real smooth.
Beth: Point taken but sarcasm excessive.
Matt: I felt it was necessary.
Beth: Why won’t your parents homeschool you again?
Matt: They said that the curse will be with me for life, so I need to get used to interacting with people.
Beth: And running away to a small boarding school in the mountains is dealing with it?
Matt: You could’ve stayed home, Beth.
Beth: And miss this? No way!
Matt: You know how terrible our previous school year was. I hope to avoid a repeat.
Beth: Me too.
Matt: Hey, uh, sorry about Megan.
Beth: Ah, don’t sweat it. It was just a stupid crush. She was too busy ogling you to even notice me.
Matt: That’s why I’m sorry.
Beth: Can you control it?
Matt: Well, no-
Beth: Then why are you apologising? You’re not at fault. She was straight as a ruler anyway…they always are.
Matt: I would offer to be your wingman but…
Beth: All you need to do is keep being my friend. You’re worth 10 crushes.
Matt: You’re only saying that because you enjoy watching my train wreck of a life.
Beth: You know it!
Matt: I love that you’re taking it as a huge joke.
Beth: If you don’t, you’ll just feel miserable. Remember what happened when that girl in grade 6 snuck up behind you and grabbed your hand?
Matt: Oh man. That…that was horrible.
Beth: You went stark white when it happened.
Matt: Because I knew what would happen.
Beth: I know I’ve asked before, but can you go over how you know?
Matt: I get a dreadful feeling and It doesn’t pass until the event has happened.
Beth: Only her sister was hurt right?
Matt: There was a small gas explosion at her home and luckily only the sister was home but, you know she lost her right arm right?
Beth: Yes, you told me remember?
Matt: Sorry, it just…it gets to me.
Beth: Why didn’t you go to an all boys school then? It would reduce the risk.
Matt: Not necessarily. I haven’t really tested it, but my guess is that it doesn’t matter what gender it is, so in a large boys school there is still a big risk.
Beth: And I won’t be there?
Matt: Like that even needed to be said.
Beth: That’s what I thought.
Matt: I just figured that a small isolated school would present the smallest risk.
Beth: What if they’re all female?
Matt: Please don’t even joke about it.
Beth: Looks like we’re slowing down.
Matt: That means we’ll find out soon enough
Beth: The station is tiny.
Matt: So is the town. There’s about five houses…or are they shops?
Beth: They’re so cute!
Matt: C’mon. Grab the small stuff and I’ll get the bigger luggage.
Beth: Are you treating me like a feeble girl?
Matt: I’m taller then you. It’ll make it harder for you to carry the big bags without dragging them on the floor.
Beth: Oh, right. Silly me.
Matt: There’s a woman on the platform. She must be the caretaker.
Beth: She looks younger then I was expecting.
Matt: Way to be ageist. Anyway, let’s go.
[setting: Station]
Woman: Hello, you must be Matt and Beth. We don’t normally get two pupils at once. Oh, where are my manners? I am Ellen Crawford. In class please refer to me as Ms. Crawford, but outside of lessons Ellen is fine.
Beth: This is a small town.
Ellen: Yes, it is. There are roughly 10 houses here, some double as shops. You won’t really have the chance to visit though, I’m afraid.
Beth: Wha, how come?
Ellen: The school is fairly self sufficient and whatever we do need is delivered.
Matt: How many students are there?
Ellen: Including you two, seven.
Matt: *whispering to Beth* Maybe they are all guys.
Beth: That’s not fair. I need at least one girl.
Matt: Alright, four guys, one girl.
Beth: You hope.
Matt: I have a good feeling about this.
[setting: School entry]
Ellen: Now you’ve had a tour of the place, let’s go into the lounge and start the introductions.
[setting: Lounge]
Ellen: This is the school’s five other pupils.
Matt: ! (shit, they’re all girls, except that one guy. I guess that’s a relief.)
Beth: *whispering to matt* he’s gay.
Matt: What?
Beth: Definitely gay.
Matt: How do you- stupid question.
Ellen: If you could both say a little about yourself, do a bit of an introduction?
Beth: I can go first! My name is Beth, I like food, I enjoying cooking and also making things. Matt and I grew up together because we’re next door neighbours, so we’re more like siblings then friends. My favourite colours are teal, turquoise and violet because are they blue? Are they green? Is this pink, or is it purple? Oh, and my preference is female.
Matt: Did you really need to be so upfront?
Beth: Honesty’s the best policy!
Matt: Well, I’m Matt. The last couple of school years have been a bit hectic so I thought a smaller school would help me learn. I like most things, but I do enjoy video games.
Beth: Ooh! Me too. And he has a great sense of humour.
Matt: Yeah, uh, thanks for that. That’s… probably it.
Male student: Hi, I’m Tory.
Tory: I like videogames, history and sports. I’ve been at this school for 3 years.
Boyish girl: Hi, I’m Joanna, but please call me Jo.
Jo: I’ve like crafts, woodworking and outdoor activities. I’ve been at this school for a year.
Pretty girl: Hello, I’m Julie.
Julie: I like make up and clothing and art and accessories. I’ve been at this school for 2 years.
Aloof girl: Guess I’m next. I’m Athena.
Athena: … That’s it. You don’t need to know anything else.
Shy girl: … *mumble*
Beth: I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch that.
Julie: That’s Violet. As you can tell, she’s pretty shy. She’s also been here the longest, clocking in 5 years.
Matt: Sorry to interrupt, but I have a question about the school.
Ellen: Yes?
Matt: You’re the caretaker here right? How do you find time to teach and clean.
Athena: We do it.
Jo: That’s not exactly right. We take turns cleaning or cooking.
Tory: Oh, but you have to look after the cleanliness of your own room and ensuite.
Ellen: You won’t get as much homework because I think being able to cook and clean is important.
Julie: The cleaning is terrible for your skin, but it’s nothing a good soak in the hot spring won’t fix!
Beth: I thought you said we wouldn’t leave the school much, Ellen?
Ellen: Oh, the hot spring is here.
Matt: (Are you serious?) Why is there a hot spring at the school?
Ellen: It was here when I bought the place, as it was originally a holiday lodge.
Beth: Makes sense.
Matt: (Just my luck. I find the only school in existence with a hot spring)
Ellen: I know it’s early, but we should start on dinner now. Jo, Julie, come with me please.
Jo: What are we gonna make today?
Julie: I hate dinner duty.
Ellen: Would you prefer to wash up?
Julie: That’s even worse!
Ellen: You two can go up to your rooms and settle in.
Beth: Sounds like a plan.
[setting: Matt’s room]
Matt: I swear the universe is out to get me. I came all the way out here to get away from females and the place is 80% females!
Not only that but it seems as though the chores work on a buddy system. Great. Spending alone time with the girls, what could possibly go wrong?
Lastly, the school has a freaking hot spring. Why a hot spring?! Of all things.
Why do you hate me so much?!
Cat: This wasn’t our doing.
Matt: Wha-?! Did that cat just speak?
Cat: I am no mere cat. I am a god.
Matt: I don’t want to believe it, but I live a much weirder life, so why not?
Cat: I could hear your anguish. It was my decision to place the curse upon you, but I see you a not a bad person. I believe you should have a chance for reprieve.
Matt: You’ll remove the curse?
God: I will, but you will have to complete a task for me.
[end of intro]
So, competitive mode huh.
I’m thinking a team of 6 is not the way to go.
I’m sorry
Ah scree.
But…I’m sorry
Yeah but as usual you don’t have anything to be sorry about.
I’m not very good at ranked and I’m sorry
Was no one’s fault, everyone played fine, we were just outclassed.
I’m not even salty about it. Playing as a 6 the matchmaking will always match us with another 6. And pretty much any 6 team playing ranked will be full of people who take it way more seriously than us.
Which is what I meant by my original comment – playing ranked as a 6 will require us to git gud ect, which would take more time and dedication than I think anyone can be bothered with. We are just playing for fun after all.
We’d probably have more success playing in two’s or threes. Still require being more serious about it but would be easier than a 6 I reckon. If anyone’s interested anyway.
If anything I should be apologizing for trying to tell people what to do when I don’t know any better.
No, don’t feel that way. I played with Superhero and SSN last night and lost them all =P
Woo last day!
Last day of work?
Ayup. No more telling old people how to reset their passwords.
Good morning everyone! Terrible weather we’re having!
At least it means no painting for me this weekend. There is no heater in my home so we have been hiding under the quilt until we can buy one.
Finally got back into Wind Waker after watching the e3 demo of BotW.
Help I think I just accidentally scored one of the $650 GTX 1070s wat do.
Sell it to me for half the price? Seems like a good deal, especially for me!
You can take my 970? 😛
I totally don’t know whether to commit to buy or not >_>
650 au?
If you don’t want it, I’ll probably take it.
Stalled too long, it’s gone now. That makes it easier 😛
Ha. Steam let me have “?” as my name.
Huh, apparently Saturday’s session has been cancelled or something. Just got called to see if I could go in another time, so now it’s in the afternoon instead of at night.
Will make it slightly harder to go about things unnoticed, but can probably get away with it with the usual vagueness I guess 😛
Aaaand I’m off. SO LONG STINK-TOWN!
…again. Pretty sure that was my departing line last time too.
Is that a euphemism for having a really big shit and just leaving it without flushing?
Ha!
Couldn’t do that last time anyway, the cleaning lady was waiting outside for the toilets to be empty 😛
A THURSDAY TAYDRENALIN SHOT
Going to an old-school gaming party on Sat and bringing my PS3 loaded with classics. What classic games available digitally should I load on there? Already loaded Crash Team Racing
WIPEOUT WIPEOUT WIPEOUT
(and also Star Wars Racer Revenge or whatever the Pod Racer sequel is called)
I have Wipeout HD, that must be a goer.

Oh my.
May have to crack it out again, remind myself how to be a total sniper bastard. Also learn all the new maps. And get all the new gear. And level it. And FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTFUL MARIE VICTORY.
I fired up the game again for the first time since Overwatch came out when I heard the news! I’m hella rusty so I gotta play a bit more before the Splatfest so I can help secure a #TeamMarie victory
Welp, got my copy of Armored Core 4.
Gonna pit as many hours into it over the weekend as possible.
Just finished Kirby Triple Deluxe. The more I played it, then angrier I got. Worse than bad, it was just exceedingly average and uninteresting. Also the ending cutscenes coming out of nowhere and drowning everything in exposition nobody asked for made me even more annoyed.
Need to find something better to play to wash the taste out.
@crazyguy1990 oh wow, a good old fashioned Crazybuy! Thanks heaps man
Hope you enjoy it. 🙂
Monster Hunter Generations demo!
TAYhunters Assemble?
This Ticonderoga might be my favourite song off The Getaway. It just sounds so tight, focused, and energetic.
God, my first thought was “Why’s crazyguy1990 listening to old game soundtracks…?”
Never mind, as you were.
Must remember to get sausage sizzle tomorrow. Might as well vote while I’m there too.
“Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos”
Gonna vote early this arvo. That’ll free up tomorrow.
Postal voted last week. The weekend is miiiiiine.
http://www.electionsausagesizzle.com.au/
You’re welcome. I’m still very undecided as to whether I go to Coburg Primary or Coburg North Primary on the day.
Damn it. I was meant to work for the election today but was extremely crook this morning so I had to ring up and tell them I couldn’t come, and this map tells me the school has a sausage sizzle AND cake stall damn it 🙁
Hope you’re feeling better?
I voted then I went out for many beers and rugby. And then the election uncertainty happened and it was the most bizarre slow mo train wreck…
Yeah was some dodgy lamb snags I had the night before. But I was fine come this morning, especially since I had work lol.
ALL HAIL PRESIDENT KANG!
NIXON’S BAAACK!!!
Hey gang,
I’ve got a newsletter! If you want to find out what writing shenanigans I’ve been up to while I haven’t been TAYing, this is probably your best bet.
Also, free books and all the
spam spam spam spam spaminteresting content you can handle, on a manageable monthly basis. We’ve already had one instalment, but I decided to follow popular culture’s example, and reboot the whole thing. New title, new graphics, remarkably similar content.
http://shanewsmith.com/email/
And here’s last month’s offering, just in case you’re on the fence.
http://eepurl.com/b4KGl9
So uncomfortable on that fence. Were the spikes necessary?
I thought it was quite rude to include the razor wire myself..
Images don’t show in my browser (get the broken image icon) but the PDFs download if I click on them.
Looks like the next game on the block is Codename STEAM.
I’d only sat through the opening cutscene and already thought “this is a million times better than fucking Kirby.” Seems to play alright too, though I wish when using it on n3DS they let you use the face buttons for other stuff instead of just duplicating the camera controls. Stick still feels kinda weird.
Lovely game. Weird departure for Intelligent Systems from Fire emblem and Advance Wars.
It’s pretty damn cool. I’m getting my arse kicked all over the place, but still I’m loving it.
Does it still run like crap or did they patch it?
I know they patched it to make the enemy turns go faster, so I updated it before I started. Never heard about performance issues otherwise but I’m running on n3DS so I don’t know if they would have happened anyway, but it seems to go smoothly?
Yeah that was the big issue. It apparently made the game feel slow as fuck to play through because each enemy turn took five minutes.
After some light reviewing in the lead up to tomorrow, I feel that if we collected into a tome all the dumb shit done by the Coalition over the past three years, we’d have a body of work that rivals Tolkien’s.
Compared with Labor, the Coalition have had double the fuck-ups in half the time.
The only reason you don’t hear about it is because Fairfax and News Corp are Liberal Party lapdogs.
It’s astounding to think they’ve only been in power for such a short period. It feels like it’s been a decade or more of them.
Oh god. I accidentally visited Sheldon. I haven’t played since the start of November, had to sit through introductions to 36 new weapons. Am dead.
Broke 1000 points in turf war with E-scope while using unleveled gear with random abilities I don’t normally use, all in my first match.
MY REIGN OF TERROR HAS RETURNED!
Holy crap we stopped their timer on 2 seconds to go, then we got stopped at 1 but they couldn’t turn it, we held til timeout. Can’t get much closer than that.
Ouch:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/06/29/those_xbox_fitness_vids_you_bought_look_up_the_meaning_of_the_word_rent/
Glorious digital age!
I exercised my democratic responsibility this morning! Didn’t get a sausage, but I bought a punnet of strawberries since the venue was shared with the farmer’s market that happens at the local public school every Saturday.
Well that did not at all turn out how I expected.
Eh. There’s still postal votes to be counted etc..
Yes. It’s amazing to have so many seats too close to call.
My own seat was one of the safest for Labour in the country. Labour retained but a 10% swing to the Greens.
Yeah and the AEC won’t be counting any more until Tuesday apparently.
Labor retained their seat in my electorate which is good. I know the bloke who was running for the Nationals here and he’s not a very nice person, and I knew that before he ran for the federal seat.
Edit: Apparently I can’t even spell the name of the party I favour, I r smart..
Oh yeah, forgot that was a thing.
Haha. Only like 78% of the votes have been counted, Labor is in front atm with 69 (heh) seats..
Ugh. Having issues with my PC atm. When i’m browsing the internet & listening to music. The last few days there will be a moment where I do something in the browser & my music freezes for a moment and then goes back to normal. I had my display drivers crash the other day & again today so I wiped them & installed the latest ones from Nvidia. Just the problem is still occuring. So I guess my next step it to reseat my GPU & RAM see if that helps.
But I also figured it could be my PSU since that’s pushing 10 years old, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s dropping voltages randomly & affecting the PC’s performance. I mean it was pretty decent for its time with it’s 80+ Gold rating & being a fully modular 800W PSU. @negativezero didn’t you have an issue with your PSU that was fixed when you got yourself a new one?
My last & least favourite option is to reinstall Windows, not something I really want to do, but will if I have to. Also how do you go about reinstalling Windows 10, since I technically don’t have a key cause MS just gave me an upgrade from Windows 7.
Yeah, my old Seasonic wasn’t delivering clean power any more. Swapped it out for a Corsair 700W modular.
Ah yep. I’m wondering if that could be my issue here :/
Got access to a PSU tester? Potentially save you some cash buying a PSU if you don’t need to.
Nah I don’t sadly. I think it could be the GPU though & it just needs to be reseated since the issue is linked to the display driver.
