Why do you troll me so badly?
This one time they tried to confiscate my original birth certificate from me.
…story?
I’ve been out of work for two months, and have a screwed up shoulder which has made getting general work difficult, so I decided to go in and see if they could be of help and what my options were.
They were very nice and when we went through my files they mentioned that the parenting payment probably should switch from my wife to me as I currently had no income.
Then they look and tell me that they have made a mistake and been overpaying us the parenting payment for the last 3.5 years by $55 per week, meaning we now owe them over $10,000!
I asked how this could be as they have all of our wage details, our bank account info, our tax info, everything has been linked and wee update it every 6 months to be sure.
Apparently for the parenting payment you are meant to update them with both our earnings *every fortnight*, and even though they had all our earning data, they calculated the payment each fortnight as if we were earning nothing, as they weren’t getting the fortnightly updates.
They never once contacted us to ask why we weren’t reporting fortnightly, and we had no idea that we were meant to, and *they have all of our earnings data anyway*.
Oh man, instead of getting what I thought might be a bit of help to see us through until myu surgery, we now have a whopping debt, have to supply 3.5 years worth of payslips, tax returns, and the last 3 months bank statements. It is a total nightmare.
Jesus man. So were they overpaying you because you weren’t eligible for the payment anymore, or solely because you weren’t reporting? Because surely if it’s the latter they can retroactively apply the earnings data to eliminate the debt, especially since it seems to be an error on their part?
Although I’ve hardly dealt with them myself, it is my understanding that centrelink does not make mistakes.
They are the ultimate trolls, at times
That’s being generous. I’d say the same thing but without ‘at times’.
I feel you. We got an email the other day saying you muct contact us immediately. So I stay home, go into work late and at the end they say, well that is all great, if you haven’t heard anything in 3 weeks give us a call back.
Glad the urgency is on both sides of this
I totally feel your pain. Going through the same issue with them atm myself :\ Bastards!
Morning all!> I’ve been awake since 3:30. How are you?
That ain’t right!
I woke up with ten minutes to get ready, because snooze button. No regerts.
I was covering the early shift today. which means starting at 5am. which means waking at ungodly hours 🙁
But that means you get to knock off at 2 and go to the pub?
True – 1pm. But I went home and slept instead like an idiot.
Is your body flowing with blood or Red Bull?
Tea Mostly
That there Vikings S4B Trailer from Comic-Con!
GREAT. HEATHEN. ARMY.Hoooooleeeeee shiiiiiiet.
I really need to watch more of that show
It just keeps getting better mate. I rank it higher than GoT. Can’t recommend it enough.
If all goes to plan, a friend will be helping me build a pc this weekend.
From @negativezero pieces as quoted by @redartifice
One of us! One of us!
When do I get the special ring & learn the secret handshake?
So Friday night was multiplayer virtual console night, and we smashed through so much great stuff. It was super authentic with these:
http://i.imgur.com/izVFUWZ.jpg
First I introduced a friend to castlevania. We got through 4 and rondo of blood, using the arcade stick. It was glorious. He’s a convert and hasn’t even found the joy of igavania.
Next I had to introduce the guys to brawlers. Final fight 3 and streets of rage 2 covered the bases. I’d forgotten how easy it was to accidentally grab your partner in coop mid-fight!
Then we had a good crack at most of the metal slugs. The animation quality in those games still blows me away. I’d also totally forgotten about the zombie bomb in 3, it’s amazing!
After a run through gunstar heroes we settled into some fighting games. Last blade 2, Injustice, and pokken (the only one we’re any good at).
Then the sun reared it’s ugly head, bringing a close to a great night of drunkenly mashing out disorder.
With a couple more sticks we’re going to hit up the bigger games next time. Chronicles of mystara, nba jam wii, runbow, and the samurai shodown anthology. Mmmmm.
Such a good selection of games there.
We’ve had so many conversations where I’d reference a game i assumed was common knowledge, only to be met with blank stares.
So I gathered it all up and decided to run a crash course in awesome gaming history. It is but part one of many, for they know not what they’ve missed.
They went into all of these games blind, it was so much fun to see their reactions to things I experienced so long ago.
Yeah, I’ve been in that same situation, at first my brain can’t deal with the fact that this other person either hasn’t played or heard of X game. I even got a friend set up online with a NES emulator and we played Battletoads over netplay because he’d never seen it before, we were both surprised by how much he enjoyed it.
Wingman is a bit on the younger side and never had anything before the 64, so I took around the SNES and a bunch of games down when she was house-sitting her brother’s place and we played that on the huge old rear-projection TV he had there. It was pretty great.
She totally loved Unirally too, as anyone should 😛
My SNES and N64 don’t work anymore, very sad.
I used to love playing Unirally, but I was never any good at it.
You are a cool friend.
Can we talk about those auto playing video ads on the mobile version lately? Surely there is a more consumer friendly way to advertise?
They’re on pc as well but I imagine they’d be quite annoying from mobile devices. Especially if you’re using your mobile broadband.
And they pause the music I am playing on my mobile while browsing kotaku!!
As far as I’m concerned, if you’re not an audio/video streaming site, and it is not on your main “player” page, you should never have autoplaying audio/video on the page – mobile site or not. But then, I’m that one guy that finds Youtube channel pages with autoplaying “Welcome to my channel!” videos obnoxious.
TAY everyone.
So, who voted for whom in the final Splatfest?
EDIT: Just checked, Marie won. Not that I’m surprised, 😛
I chose Callie. Boo.
[Locks Scree in a sound proof shipping container]
How about that, no objection so far, 😛
*writes “I chose Callie” on container* -_-
HOW THE BLAZES DID HE WRITE THAT ON THE OUTSIDE?!
[Proceeds to furiously scrub the blasphemous statement off the container.]
1. She. I am female.
2. It’s on the inside =D
Sorry about the gender mixup. I have no way of knowing hence I used ‘he’ because it’s basically been generalised now to mean mixed groups these days.
Anyhow, I kind of figured it was on the inside but I thought it funner to make it look as though you outsmarted me, 😛
Anyhow, thanks for running with the gag. Cheers.
Sorry for ruining it
Team Marie reigns supreme! I knew that she was going to be the more popular team for sure but I was expecting to get trounced when it came to match victories, but in the end it was really close in Marie’s favour. I didn’t manage to get to Marie Queen despite it going for longer than previous Splatfests though.
Didn’t do any gaming over the weekend. Went to the gym Saturday morning, cleaned the house, had friends over who didn’t leave until 4pm Sunday because my wife and I went to the gym again. Watched The Babadook which was pretty good, introduced friends to Rick & Morty, lamented that Netflix Australia still only has season 1. Itching to see season 2 because apparently some shit really goes down and I really don’t want to be spoiled on what said shit is!
My arms and shoulders are shredded after I spent all that time this weekend lifting heavy things and putting them down again, but I’m really keen to do more. Also my Fitbit logged like 27,000 steps this weekend meaning I won the Weekend Warrior challenge I was invited to. Now, to get cocky.
Hi everyone! Dropped into Destiny Friday night to run some bounties, and spied a few times over the night at the people in my friends list playing Iron Banner. About seven people playing that night, and I must’ve checked them five times – not once did I see anyone on the winning side. So I opted out of Banner this week – went to play Monster Hunter instead. 😛 Working my way through 3-star quests, and recently switched from Guild/Longsword to Aerial/Switchaxe – had a ridiculously fun fight with an Arzuros, bouncing off his belly and whacking him in the back of the head as I sailed over him. 😛
Aerial makes the world a much better place.
Hi, TAY.
Bought the new BlazBlue on Steam on Friday, got Tekken 6 on my 360, and picked up my arcade stick to 360 converters on Saturday morning.
@distantdrop @jocon Need two to three more dps to fill the group out, can’t seem to recruit a druid or rogue to save my life =,= *shakes fist*
Atm the conqueror tokens are loot heavy while vanquisher’s have only 2 people for competition.
Does being a Druid tank help? haven’t played a Guardian druid since wotlk might be some fun.
As far as pre patch goes, almost all classes are complaining about their tanking roles, so I assume any blaring problems will be filled out with relic weapons. so hard to draw a conclusion on my Monk.
If you make me heal a druid tank IKILYOU!
Jokes aside I don’t actually know if Guardian druids have come out of prepatch buffed enough to be a valid tanking spec. Any inkling as to what you want to tank as yet?
On that note I think all classes have received severe debuffs with prepatch since a lot of abilities/rotations are tied to our artifact weapons and as a resto shaman I definitely feel the lack of options and the stat squish. E.g. My healing surge used to crit for 160-200k hp i.e. 50-60% of your hp, now it barely does 50-60k on crits.
Edit: Just did some preliminary research into Guardian druids and they look very promising. If you want to go this spec I think with my Mastery and yours it should be very viable.
Rumour I heard was bear tanks are looking like big heal sponges. Not many mitigation tools just self healing and stuff.
I think a lot of tanks are heading in that direction, look at Monks, Guard completely removed, dodge brew removed, purifying brew only removing 50% of stagger and on a 20sec cd 3 charges shared with ironskin.
Used to be the case but their new mastery increases their hp and healing received by a %. They’ve also been given a few new mitigation abilities that stack, from the looks of things the longer a fight drags on the more effective they become at soaking damage.
Edit: Worth noting changes that Blizz wanted to make to all tanks with pre-patch was reduce reliance on self-healing. Even our DK tank has complained that his self-healing drastically reduced from what it was.
Ironically with monks they increased thier self healing by ALOT but removed their guard shield I suppose they dont want monks to soak things they probably shouldn’t be,
Yeah Blizz no longer want “shields” as a survival mechanic; its because of this disc priests have been mutilated beyond recognition.
Yeah transient is utterly devo about the dk nerf.
Shall have to see. I think it’ll be hard to tell what’s good and what’s not until well into raid 1, so much is being changed up.
Such a awkward shift in opinion, must of read the guardian mastery and got some HPS orgasm or something.
Problem wit my monk is that purifying brew/iron brew combo seems way to flaky and uncontrollable, almost like luck is involved, right now as it stands i hate the crap out of it, but unsure if relic weapons will fix it so its more.. higher resourced.
Not to mention with the way stagger now works, its possible to have times where 0% mitigation besides base stats are active which is fucking scary concept for a avoidance tank.
Have you researched your artifact weapon yet? Mine adds 2 abilities of note but that rest are all just passive increases to my healing and synergy to rotation.
yeah I have but we also dont know how fast our access is to this tree, do we have all talents when raid ready? or to they treacle in over the expansion? these are important considerations.
Check out the wowhead artifact weapon guide; it seems after point #13 you get points a lot lot slower than previously. I’m willing to bet we’ll be able to access our first weapon ability at 110 (i.e. for me it costs 10 points total). I’ve already done the theory crafting to confirm which ability to work towards; which provides a 30-40% benefit over the other paths available.
This expansion also seems duel spec unfriendly, you noticed they removed it from the game? probably best to make the right choice first. maybe i should just go all monk and screw the consequences, I am prone to overthinking.
Back after 2 weeks off, where I have a course that goes for 3 days, then again I’m only working for 2 weeks, then off to a course for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks off again… then off to a course for 3 days.
I wonder if I’ll actually do any work -_-
Mum and I binge watched all of Stranger things yesterday. We liked it
Is it scary? My wife hates scary shows.
There’s a few jump type scares but it’s not really scary. It’s more of a mystery
I succumbed to temptation and bought Tokyo Mirage Sessions and its bloody good! I highly recommend it
I love Fire Emblem but don’t know who Caeda and Cain are. As my first Fire Emblem is Awakening I assume this is from an older one. Still it’s not a Fire Emblem game more of a SMT game on Wii U. Mechanics are great, bosses are hard (for me) . Highly recommended.
Caeda/Shiida and Cain are both characters from the original Fire Emblem. Most of the Mirages are from that – the only Awakening Mirages are
Virion & Tarja. Tiki is technically in Awakening but her appearance is taken from the original game too.I’m looking forward to having some time to play it. Knee deep in Odin Sphere right now though and want to play it with the uncensor patch which means a bit of fiddling to softmod the Wii U.
Chrom too!Oh right, yeah. To me the weirdest thing was them adding characters from the original game, but not having Marth in there, when he’s the most iconic FE character. I think all the Mirages are pulled from the Archanea games (Shadow Dragon, Gaiden, Mystery of the Emblem, Awakening, but not Fates since it was designed before Fates released)
Spoilers ahead
the 3 bosses I have met so far are all Awakening villains.I looked up Marth. He is in Smash right? Don’t know why he isn’t in there. He is pretty iconic. I hope there is DLC. I would love some more characters.
The classic smash FE characters were Marth, Ike and Roy. All three are main characters from their own timelines (there’s several timelines in Fire Emblem) and AFAIK none are in Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
Marth and Ike I know but can’t say I’ve heard of Roy. Probably for the best in the western market when your Mirage Monster is named “Roy”. It doesn’t quite leave the same impact…
Roy was in Melee. The sword dude that isn’t Marth. Got replaced by Ike for Brawl. I think he’s in the Wii U one as DLC?
“Huh, I wonder what’s using so much bandwidth… must be the Windows VM downloading updates.” *an hour later* “Huh, that VM’s still using a lot of bandwidth… Hmmm… wait, that’s upload traffic, not download…, and it’s not the Windows VM…” *notices 55k emails and counting from my development VM* “Ah.”
Wow, Outlook’s definitely upped its game since the last time this happened. Last time, Outlook crashed under the load, and I had to delete them in blocks of 100 through the webapp over the course of half a day; this time I was able to select about 25k at a time in Outlook as they loaded, and delete them. Now to wait for the server to process 65k-odd email deletions…
Meanwhile in Redmond, Microsoft technicals race about trying to put out an inferno in their server rooms….
😛
Eh, pretty sure this is still locally hosted. Getting migrated to 365 on Wednesday, tho… and dreading the fact that I’ll have 10x the mailbox allowance I currently have – at least now I only get about 120k emails before my account fills up and refuses to take any more, so it’s … manageable. If this happens again after that… O_o Might have to take a few minutes to limit the VM’s error reporting a bit.
Actually I think the servers for Outlook.com / Hotmail are somewhere like Phoenix, not in Redmond. Too expensive to have them here.
Finished Stranger Things last night, I was bummed when I realised it was only 8 episodes since they were all awesome. Can’t wait to see how the 2nd season goes!
@distantdrop It’s actually dual spec friendly if anything, you can now change specs anywhere. All gear including rings and necks come with all 3 primary stats and it’s free to change specs and talents anywhere you get rested xp. Additionally inscription now creates scrolls that allow an entire raid group to respec or retalent freely for 2 minutes.
@jocon Actually a lot of the changes have already been raid tested with forums providing more concrete info than usual resources. There might be some tweaks here or there but for the most part I think we can tell how classes will perform in raids; e.g. fire mages are now much more likely to be played in raids, enhance shammy’s have been nerfed to be in line with other mdps. Once you get a good reference going by looking at all the classes you can see a lot of them have been brought in line with another on a pure number’s basis. All healers for example now have a slow cheap heal and a fast expensive one with very similar numbers and base costs for all healing classes.
Mmk. Annoying you have to forum trawl to find this stuff but I guess that’s how it goes.
Btw you’ll be glad to know for the first time in a shit ton of xpacs Druid’s are actually getting a pretty epic looking set of tier pieces.
Cool, I’ll have to check it out.
I’m even playing a toon this time round that can wear armor properly (troll chick) unlike troll dudes and tuaren with their broken helms and way oversized shoulders.
Lol yeah which is why I think almost all of my toons are predominantly Orcs/Undead/Blood Mages. I’ll send you the link to the class guide doc tonight, close to finishing up the layout, just need to upload screens of Artifact/Talent trees. Also when you get a chance have another look at the guild charter doc, updated it with info for raid lockouts, feedback and how recruitment works.
Edit: The hunt for a Druid has commenced! Let loose the dogs of war! I don’t understand why guilds look at a player post in forums and just decide to copypasta; I mean seriously take a few minutes to ask some questions and actually talk to the player.
Hey yeah, sweet Druid gear! Hunter is pretty naff actually, glad to swap.
Dat Shaman gear tho is pretty mental. The mythic, with the fire? Damn. You’d be happy with that.
Haha yeahhh check out that shammy gear! *flex* Finally some gear I’d be happy to wear; unlike the tier 16, 17 and 18 which were all mediocre at best. The damn BRF tier pieces had me wearing mini cyclones on my shoulders =,= You’re right about the hunter one looks plain as, even monks and rogues appear to be getting shafted a bit. The mage tier is basically a reskin of tier 18 as well.
“So what are you going to get for so-and-so’s birthday, Saturday?”
“Nerf Gun.”
“You going to bring a gift for blank’s housewarming?”
“Nerf Gun.”
“Have you gotten a wedding present yet for A and B, Saturday?”
“Yeah. One of those fancy expensive nerf guns.”
Awesome weekend, Tiglet turned 2 so it was all about her.
Her best friends Mummy actually shares her birthday so we had afternoon tea down the cafe. Was quite late and the cafe was mostly deserted (and thankfully still desserted) so after eating the girls just ran wild. They were just running back and forward chasing each other and laughing. It was very cute.
Was a just reward after our morning reenactment of the viking invasion of 793.
I spent Saturday night setting up for the morning, we gave her a Kitchen set thing that I assembled for her so it was all good to go in the morning. I also setup her castle tent to hide her presents in. She loved her kitchen set so a lot of the weekend was spent doing ‘more cooking’.
Once we got through the presents and stuff Mummy cooked a special lunch which was of course pasta. But pasta with all teh good stuff, pasta, cheese, peas and tomato. About the only thing missing from it was weetbix.
Then had dinner down at the pancake palour. Tiglet was very impressed with having ‘cake’ for dinner. Bit more of a play and getting ready for bed.
Outside of birthday celebrations I watched a couple of tour stages and played a little bit. Few runs of hand of fate and some MPQ.
I think I may be allergic to blueberries. Or maybe intolerant.
The trick is to keep eating and find out definitively!
Well it’s been the only common thing I’ve eaten the last 3-4 times I’ve felt like my guts were being clawed at from the inside, and that sensation started about 45 mins after eating them…
Hi. Long time peeps, hows it garn?
WINDOWS STORE GAME PRICES!
I’m getting worried about the XBOX game prices available for Windows 10.
Quantum Break has been out a while now. It’s gone down in stores, but on the W10 Store it’s still $89.95.
Forza Horizon 3 is coming out in September and the Australian price marked on the site is $99.95… :/
I’m not so worried about console players because they have good old brick’n’mortars who will create a competitive price for the game; it will probably launch at $78-$89 in the first week. But us PC guys, we have no other option than that bloody digital Windows Store. And so far, Microsoft doesn’t seem to care that the price has an Australian tax on it.
Has KOTAKU reported anything on this yet?
Does this fall into any ACCC rules; it feels like a monopoly against a sub-set of consumers.
There’s nothing inherently illegal about a Monopoly (which this isn’t, by the way). It only becomes a problem when a company uses their Monopoly to gain unfair leverage on other products and markets.
There’s lots of competition. Microsoft definitely doesn’t have a monopoly in the digital games market. Putting a game into their own store is in no way a monopoly thing.
You should also bear in mind that getting Forza from the store for PC also gives you an Xbox One copy – it’s one of the first of the Play Anywhere initiative (basically like cross-buy with Sony platforms, except PC and Xbox One).
Also standard disclaimer: I work for MS (not on Xbox though). This is my own opinion etc.You work for MS?! Why have we not been getting free Xbox Ones since you went to the states?!?!Because they cost more than just buying from a normal retailer. 🙁 I get software and some peripherals cheaper, but not hardware.
Weren’t they also going to be on steam?
From what I remember, a lot of the first-party franchises will be only on the W10 store on PC. Gears of War, Forza, Quantum Break, (and eventually) Halo 6… it’s neat that they’re on PC so gamers have access to them without buying an Xbone, but… I don’t think exclusive franchises alone will be enough to keep it afloat in the face of Steam’s (or, more specifically their resellers’) prices.
So a few months ago I complained about how Galak-Z was unfinished, missing 1/5th of its content. Thinking it was part of the joke I look it up and discover that they’re working on it. Decided to look up how that’s going and I discover that they’ve cancelled the ending and are instead adding in an endless run mode. Which is nice, I guess, but it’s still missing the ending.
Also took a break from competitive Overwatch but came back in for Ana. Man, people really haven’t changed. People still don’t know how to play the game. It’s worse when someone selects Ana and only uses her as a sniper.
She frustrates me. She doesn’t heal enough for me. I chase after my team, shooting and throwing stuff at them
Bloodborne update:
I’ve got 8 insight, I’ve had a chat to Eileen for the first time, and I’ve been smashed around a lot by Father Gascoigne. But can consistently get to stage 2 of his battle.Sadly, not strong enough yet to wield the Kirkhammer.
The second stage of that fight is such a @#$!#$$!#. I basically adopted a strategy of making it through the first phase unscathed and then just brute forcing my way past his second phase.Whew, Splatfest weekend. Spent basically the entire thing playing Splatoon, managed to get through 317 matches once the timer ended. It was such a brutal slogfest – I’ve never had such a hard time winning matches, everyone was in hardcore mode. First time I ever came away with a negative win-loss ratio, had 134-142 for matches vs team Callie (with 15-25 for vs Marie).
Couldn’t believe that Marie won in the end though. Go team!
Almost wish the battle score came to 50-50, that would’ve been funny 😛
Played a lot of Odin Sphere over the weekend. Didn’t do much else except for grappling with terrible insomnia. But Odin Sphere is a cool guy. I’m much further in the game than I ever got before. Took me until I started Mercedes’ chapter to realize that the new skill system they added gives +1 attack when you level up every node, so I was investing everything into level ups on Gwendolyn and Cornelius and only leveling up the main Psypher, which was a huge mistake. Last time on PS2 I only got a little way through Mercedes’ chapter before giving up because she was horrible to play. Don’t know what they did to change her but she’s a complete beast now. Hits like a truck and does it from range too so almost no risk. They gave her one ability that’s like firing a fucking shotgun, and you can buff her reload speed to be ridiculously high too.
Anyway, I’m currently on chapter 6 with Velvet, so just need to finish 6 & 7 and the initial part of the game’s done and I can do the epilogue. I still think Muramasa’s the best of Vanillaware’s output, but Odin Sphere’s great. Don’t know if Altus retranslated it or if it’s the old one, but I really started to notice after a while that the game’s dialogue and everything is like watching a stage play and the presentation uses a lot of theater tricks too (eg spotlight on a character when they’re having a major inner soliloquy). Love the way that the four characters’ stories seem initially barely connected but they’re all intertwined and each answers questions raised during the previous one. Great writing all around.
I’m going to be trying to do all the story content unless I hit a difficulty spike so I’m thinking I may actually platinum the game. I’m completely clearing each area so basically the only thing I’ve got to do once I see all the plot stuff is get a character to level 65 (already have a couple at around 55 so this seems doable, might happen during the final arc anyway) and unlock and eat every dish that Maury sells, and that’s the only part that seems like a pain.
Starbound!
It’s out. It’s 1.0. Full screen doesn’t work and the window banner still says ‘beta’ but it’s close enough for government work.
It’s … interesting. More than a reskinned terraria. Also tried to start a new character in multi and started on a different planet so yeah, it seems to encourage you to make your own space instead of just full co-op from the get go.
I’m going to be jumping back in to it soon. It’s a great game to play if you just want something to kinda lazily exist in, occasionally teaming up for exploration and boss battles.
Yeah, I see this being a bit better for running the same character single and multi? Dunno about that yet as far as building and boss permanence within a single or multi instance.
I’ve mostly just been surface running on most new planets to get what I need. Mining seems riskier and then you have to somehow get back out to teleport. Maybe an item will fix that at some point?
Biggest problem with using one character throughout is that you could end up so far ahead of the people playing and it diminished the risk for them to the point where the game became boring. Terraria had the same issue, actually.
At one point they did play around with letting people teleport from deep underground but it took away basically all risk. You can teleport while under the surface by mining a hole out of the backing wall (right click with the MM, I think?) and if you’re not too far down you can get a signal.
Problem with making sure there’s risk is that I can’t see sufficient reward for bothering to try taking that on, especially when there’s 1-2 surface generated dungeons each planet that hold more rewards.
I have discovered a reason to mine!
Oil. There’s oil in them there (desert) hills.
Has anyone else noticed the video ads in articles no longer have the option to close them or skip them?
‘This is Highlight Reel for…’
God damnit.. got click baited again by Kotaku this week.
*disables Ghostery* *visits an article* O_o *turns Ghostery back on*
I have no problem with static advertising, but when I’m trying to read an article, looping animated gifs/advertisements interspersed into the text I’m trying to concentrate on makes me nauseous. An article with an unpausable autoplaying video advertisement in the middle of the article is a perfect example of the type of content I go out of my way to avoid.
I feel bad for running with adblocking etc. since it affects their bottom line, but I get awful targeted ads here and the sort of shit that they start inserting makes reading the content – the reason I read the site at all – a miserable experience.
I’d happily pay a reasonably priced monthly subscription to get all the Allure sites ad-free…
Agreed I’d be willing to subscribe as well to remove the ads.
Yep. Noticed that this morning. Just when I thought they couldn’t get more obnoxious… =(
It’s bloody annoying is what it is. I’ve actually stopped reading articles halfway and closed the page in annoyance.
Yeah, and advertisers wonder why people run adblock.
Right up there with the movie industry’s anti-pirate rhetoric in denial of reality levels that lot.
The centrelink story….
I asked how this could be as they have all of our wage details, our bank account info, our tax info, everything has been linked and we update it every 6 months to be sure.
Oh man, instead of getting what I thought might be a bit of help to see us through until my surgery, we now have a whopping debt, have to supply 3.5 years worth of payslips, tax returns, and the last 3 months bank statements. It is a total nightmare.
It’s so depressing that Centrelink exists to help people through rough patches and yet somehow it’s become a punishment for not earning enough money.
Jesus christ. That’s ridiculous. There’s no way they should be able to dump this debt on you when you’ve provided them with all reasonable information needed to have reduced your payments 3 years ago. They have a duty of care to make use of the information provided to them and from what you’re telling me it sounds like the only reason you have that debt is through their negligence. Have you spoken to a lawyer?
Sounds like Centrelink in a nutshell, unfortunately. I remember trying to figure out why getting a scholarship while on Youth Allowance meant I ended up with less money than had I just been on YA, until I learned they’d interpreted the bi-annual $X payment as being fortnightly $X payments. Had to live on two-minute-noodles for a month until it finally got sorted out, cos I couldn’t afford textbooks, rent and food.
That’s the thing with Centrelink. It’s never their fault and it’s never their job to get it right. The onus is always on you to double and triple-check everything and ensure they’re doing everything exactly right, because if not, they will always come after you for the amount overpaid, even if they were the ones fucking up.
As much as you might not want to give them a cent, arrange a payment plan immediately. Even if the amounts that you provide are tiny, get something in place to delay debt collection. Government debt collectors are absolutely brutal and will hound you to the ends of the earth.
Once you have that it place, then you can go through the rigmarole of sorting everything out and maybe even having part of the debt waived. And like all things Centrelink, document everything so you can prove that you are making an effort to get things fixed and so they don’t catch you in a trap despite them having everything they need.
I had some really bad experiences with Centrelink but holy crap that sucks. I hope things start looking up for you soon.
Yeah, I am taking all the paerwork in on Friday, it is taking a bit to get it all together.
I will be working with them as quickly as possible to get it sorted, I’m just in shock, as we updated them so many times it is insane, and they already have all of our earnings as they have been paying the Family Tax Benefit A&B according to the changes in our earnings over the years.
That is what is so frustrating, they know what we earn, we keep them appraised every time anything changes, we go out of our way to do the right thing.
We have taken some documents in 6 times in the last three years, every time I go in, they keep saying they don’t have them, even though, every time, they take them away and make copies of them. The place is severely broken.
I have no issue that if I get paid extra, that I have to payit back, but when you make a huge effort to keep them up to date, and they let something slide for over 3 years that completely contradicts the data they have, it is insane. Supposedly if you don’t update them every fortnight for the parenting payment, the payments stop, but for whatever reason they didn’t.
It is beyond frustrating. Also came out this morning to my rear windscreen smashed in in the carpark, looks like a ute reversed into the car. I know none if this is the end of the world, and I have it better than many, but it is a shitty week. Apologies to everyone for the rant, you all are the closest thing to family I have, and I needed to vent.
Assuming families were things that listened, weren’t judgey and didn’t suckThat last bit is a big part of TAY in a nutshell. So don’t stress too much on venting, lots of us have done it so don’t mind when others do.
We actually finally got our FTB for the previous year sorted and finally have the money in our account. We only got the single one FTB A and think I might just leave that as a yearly tax time thing rather than fortnightly based on this story
Always keep your payslips and always double check that Centrelink understand your situation. They are fucking terrible at following up. It’s incredibly stupid that the people they are supposed to be helping are the ones that have to do the follow up.
My Mum told them she was working. She went to two different centrelinks and told them that she was working. They said it was fine and she went on her merry way. A few years later she went back and told them that she was working and centrelink were like “WHAT?! WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US?! FRAUD! FRAUD!” She ended up having to pay back $1,000, something that could have been avoided if she’d gone back in and made certain that they knew she was working.
Either way, I hope you guys can sort it out. TBH I’m not sure how $55 extra a fornight could add up to $10, 000. In the worst case when you have to pay it back, at least they’ll let you pay it in installments, like they did for my Mum.
$55 a week for 3.5 years 🙂
And seriously screw centrelink, that’s insane.
They pay me and I hate them too. A lot of them just don’t know how to do their jobs or something? I’m not sure, but to forget to follow up, it seems, silly?
Like in all my interactions with government departments it’s a complete lack of giving a fuck. Public service my ass.
Thing with working in government is that it’s very difficult to fire anyone.
So lots of incompetent people get in through sheer persistence, drop all pretence of trying and viola! departments full of 80% useless people and 20% overworked not useless people struggling against a mountain of office politics.
Wheeee, I’m part of the 20%!
(Ignore the online posting count.)
Hey, if you’re doing a good job and picking up for the rest of the slack, you need to take a break
Public serve us!
I was on Centrelink for about a month when I quit my job just before the Christmas holiday in 2005. When all the HR people came back to work, I got a job, in January 2006.
Six months later, I got a mail from Centrelink noting that I hadn’t been filling in my fortnightly job diary for a while, and maybe I could call to schedule an appointment to learn how to do better at that?
Yeah.
Yeah. It’s pretty terrible. =/

The unavoidable ads =P
I don’t see them at all. Weird.
Well Mum just liked a couple of facebook posts so at least I know they are alive 🙂

I didn’t see this earlier, but basically everything points towards Marie for me 😛 ‘Cept for the cats bit, but then next one brings it right on back.
@pupp3tmast3r
What’s your roster looking like so far?
If you still need a boomy… sell it to me. Convince me you will be able to stay aotc on such a light schedule and never have to depend on pugs.
Cause honestly, I’d rather raid with you than a bunch of randoms. But pugging and struggling to get anywhere is what annoyed me last time.
And I’m just not sure 4 hours a week with a new team is can do it.
At the moment we’re pushing the upper limits of what the healing roster can handle on a numbers basis; 1-2 players max. I’m just looking to recruit a warlock because I’m not a 100% sold on the the guild presently has. We no longer “need” a boomy as I locked in a druid dps over the weekend that’s balanced the group out some but if you’re interested in jumping into the group now would be the time cos after I lock your spot in and a warlock we’re set. No more recruitment unless 1 or 2 raiders I’ve got my eye on don’t pan out. From a pugging perspective the core roles – Tanks & Heals have gone to pretty serious players and I’ve also got a back up resto shaman to pick up healing when a healer cant make it. Also have a back up tank but its a bit on the tricky side as he’s one of the core healers. Essentially given we’re running 16 players even if 2-3 players can’t make it raids should still go ahead. I can’t promise we’ll never pug, but I can promise recruitment is never going to stop. Even after I lock in a solid 16 players I’ll be using tier 19 to get another 4-5 in the door for Mythic.
On the AOTC front straight up that’s not the goal I’m aiming for out of the gate. The goal is progression; if progression meets the time requirements for AotC then it’s a cherry on top. I want a group where I’m satisfied spending a few months on a boss like Xavius or even Elerethe as long as I can see we’re all in it together and making incremental improvements as a raid group.
While the hours for raiding are minimal; the hours of work expected by raiders outside of the game are probably on par with a hardcore group. All raiders will be required to research bosses/fights/their class and read up on the strategy guides I put together, how and when they do it is up to them but they’ll need to do it. Final disclaimer I’m not going to be running these raids like I used to; prog fights are going to be treated seriously and I expect input on strategy/banter to be at a minimum while we’re in raid mode. Essentially the only way I know I can make those 4 hours work is if for those 4 hours the group does nothing but hit their heads against a boss; as such I’m pulling out any non-essential work for raids out of that 4 hours. You’ve seen the doc so you know what we’re going to be doing 🙂 Also if you decide to join I’ll be running raiders through heroic dungeons once legion launches to gauge their skill level, this run is to be treated as though you were running a raid and finally the class/spec chat.
Spoilered for length
If you already have a Boomy then I’m not gonna crash your carefully planned team comp in the 11th hour.
All good. I’ll make my own fun, with blackjack and hookers.
As ever, if you need someone to do dailies or whatever with, feel free to hit me up.
The team comp’s pretty balanced and the druid dps is feral so no other Boomy’s in the group. You have a spot in the group if you want it (and you’re onboard with everything) and it wont throw anything off; however this is the now or never moment if you want to join us. After this weekend I’m expecting the recruitment effort to taper off considerably. Our mix between ranged and melee is perfectly even so again you won’t throw the balance in one direction or the other.
I may or may not have a WoW problem now… I just spent an hour running calculations to pick between two HPal Talents and found that 90% of guides out there are wrong.
Edit: tl;dr You me and red go all the way back to Destiny raiding; if you want a spot you’ve got it.
You know what? Fuckit.
These guys might be established/raid longer but at least you are well organized and can give me a straight answer on what the score is.
I’m in, let me know how I can help out.
Can Boomy’s create healthstones and summoning portals? That would be a great starting point 😛
Jokes aside I’ll hit you up when im on tonight and toss you that ginvite.
I can turn into a fat owl, does that count?
This will screw your Warlock plan won’t it? Damn.
Not really, we already have a warlock, I just want a second one as a failsafe 😛 That said as of last night the group is packed to the brim. 16 Players the end.
Well now.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-07-26-nx-is-a-portable-console-with-detachable-controllers
TAKE THAT, EVERYONE WHO’S MADE COMPLETELY WRONG GUESSES OVER THE PAST HOWEVER LONG IT’S BEEN!
Spoiler: some leaked images of the hardware.
I see they’re really embracing this Splatoon thing.
It’s funny, I keep saying “well I don’t care about Nintendo, the last Nintendo console I had was…” then I realise I had a Wii and a 3DSXL. I’m not current, but it’s not like I’m way behind either. And I’m totally buying the dicks off of the NES mini and hopefully a SNES mini if they like free money.
I don’t see myself buying an NX as I don’t care much for portable consoles (yes, I have a 3DS but I pretty much played Animal Crossing for 2 months then forgot all about it) but sometimes I catch myself wondering if I should get a Wii U now that they’re cheap.
I’m in the same boat. I’m always like – well, they don’t have any platform exclusives I really care about – and then I remember that the new Pokemon games have been pretty good, and Monster Hunter is awesome, and… well, that’s enough for me. 😛
If they release new games in those two franchises for it, I’ll probably end up getting one… but will probably pick up a Wii U when the NX releases and the U sees a significant price drop. *crosses fingers*
Premium Wii-U with Splatoon is $279 at our local target at the moment.
Still can’t justify it for the 2-ish games I’d play on it, and I’m in no rush.
That number is far too small.
I agree, which is why I’m content to wait, either for that number to increase, or the barrier to entry to drop.
No I mean [comment deriding your gaming taste for there only being two games on that list] 😛
Which two, out of interest?
@mrtaco I know, just found it to be just as apt when read the other way 😛
MH3U (which I have now learnt is on 3DS, too… but with more pixels and better controls – the new 3DS’s nipple is fussy, and I’ve never really found the 3DS all that comfortable to use, anyhow) and was assuming the WiiU had a Zelda game… which it apparently does not – it has two HD remakes and one new game coming out next year that will also be on the NX. So… very much leaning on the “ish” of my “2-ish games” 😛
[comment deriding your gaming taste] 😛
I skipped MH3U because it was just like… well, I already spent some 120 odd hours playing the game on Wii, why waste the time going through it all again? So held out for MH4. That was pretty great. And now they’ve got MH Generations on there, which my friends seem to be liking. So 3DS may be the smarter way to go 😛 (Personally I didn’t like it on n3DS and just played it on the regular system, and it was fine. 3DS XL is way more comfy than any of the other models).
@mrtaco I’m really enjoying Generations on my new-XL, but the camera control is weird because the system doesn’t have a proper joystick – the nub acts more like an inverted D-pad, if anything. As far as ergonomics go, I should probably get a grip-case for it – it seems like there hasn’t been a handheld in living memory that understands that a “flat brick with buttons” is about as ergonomic as it is aerodynamic.
Oh, and citing 3U mostly because it looks like its the most recent iteration that got a western release that wasn’t on handheld.
I can highly recommend the Circle Pad Pro XL (or LL if you get the Japanese one). I just pulled out mine this afternoon, and besides being hilariously huge it’s pretty comfortable. WAY better than the small one for the original 3DS, which had no real moulding to the back and was super uncomfortable to use after a while thanks to the lack of prongs. Though I guess there’s the MH claw grip thingo they released over in Japan too, not sure how easy they are to come by or how nice to use though.
@mrtaco Had a bit of a look round the interwebs… Looks like they never made a Circle Pad Pro for the new 3DS cos the nub exists, and the new model is a few mm larger than the old one so none of the old grips fit it. Has a different charging socket position too, so even if it did fit, it’d mean taking the grip off every time it needs charging. So doesn’t look like there’s an alternative to the new-XL’s nipple, for the time being. Boo.
I did find a comfortable-looking Dualshock 4-esque grip for about $20 on ebay, so will see how that goes when it eventually arrives.
Ohhhhh, you have nXL. Thought you just meant regular. I wasn’t a fan of that at all, which was why I sold the Majora one I got :p
Honestly, all I’ve really played on my Wii U is Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Pokken Tournament, and Smash Bros.
@blaghman @tech_knight @popdart5
Really sorry guys, been stricken with a cold so no Numenera this evening. I know it’s been ages.
Everyone is sick!
Hope you get better soon Red.
🙁 Sorry to hear that Red, get well soon.
Got a sore throat myself, had some OJ just now
Asked a mate to give me back my copy of GTA V on PS3 2 weeks back, said he’d post it back to me that week, must’ve sent it via another country still waiting..
Spose I should add I lent it to him 2 years ago & he never bothered to play it on PS3 but got it on PC when it came out instead.
“We are migrating your email, so you won’t be able to access it for a bit. Please keep an eye out for our email to notify you when we’re finished.” *facepalm*
And shortly a message telling people to stop trying to access email as it is screwing with the migration
Ew, gumtree changed again. Now it looks like the page hasn’t finished loading properly :/
Oh that’s awful /o\
Small update about the WoW competition: I am sending out the keys right now.
Hundreds of emails. One by one. Someone shoot me.
But those emails are coming. Hopefully I’ll have them all done in a few hours.
So uh.. I got one of your emails but it contains nothing? 😛
@virus__ I think it’s in the attached winmail.dat? There’s some code gunk in there that I probably opened with an incorrect application that looks promising, but I haven’t tried to activate yet.
I have nothing in mine all I have is a .eml attachment that is empty on my phone, web browser & Win 10 mail client 🙁
Same here, thought it was just the browser so I found a .eml file reader and it still showed up as empty.
If you have issues, reply back to me via email and I’ll be able to flick you the code again.
Just got it now, thank you, sounds like it’s been a nightmare getting them all out.
Will do, thanks Alex!
Thanks, that worked a treat!
Sweet. Now I’ll go pour myself a drink.
Better make it a double!
Ground coffee and yoghurt?
I thought I’d pop in to TAY to get a few questions about World of Warcraft answered. If it’s okay with those two, I’ll tag @transientmind and @pupp3tmast3r because I’m pretty sure they played WoW.
Basically, about 11 months ago I played the WoW starter edition to see if it was for me. I liked it enough, but I wasn’t really willing to pay a subscription and was unsure of what the hidden costs were. (expansions, etc) I stopped playing at level 15 since I didn’t want to put time into a character that would be stopped from doing anything at level 20.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I watched the Warcraft movie. Decent flick, had crippling problems especially at the end, but I enjoyed my time enough. The tickets to the movie came with two codes for World of Warcraft. My dad had no interest whatsoever in the game, so he gave me his code. I then gave that code to a friend of mine, hoping to play together. I redeemed the code a few days ago. I’m not sure what to do now.
I have so many questions. The biggest is the question about the upcoming expansion. It’s coming out in just a few days. Upon the expansion’s release, will I be booted from the game until I pay up? Or will I be allowed to level up to level 90 or whatever the pre-expansion level-cap is? I don’t want to play then get locked out. This crippling fear is stopping me from playing the game. I’ve also got to wait for my friend to redeem his code and download the game, he’s taking ages.
Coming out a bit closer to a month from now, actually (Likely August 30th. Demon Hunters will be making an advance appearance for Legion pre-orders sometime around August 17th, or potentially a few days earlier). If the code was just the base game, you’ll probably be able to play all the way up to 90, accessing the Pandarian zones at the highest, unless the launch of Legion folds the latest current expansion (Warlods of Draenor – WoD) into the bundle, in which case you’ll be able to play up to 100 and access the Draenor zones.
The only thing that locks you out is not paying your subscription. Level of expansion upgrade owned only affects how high you can get. If you’re still subbed, you can keep playing your 90, though.
Stupid eating my reply.
Without Legion you will be able to play everything from Vanilla to WoD (I think WoD is now included.) abd level to 100.
What you won’t be able to do is the Legion specific content – the new zone, Demon Hunter class and level 110.
Also can play fine with people who do have Legion.
Nah you won’t be booted from the game when Legion comes out, you just won’t be able to access the content & new zones that are part of Legion, just like you won’t be able to access the Draenor zones & content until you buy its expansion! But both Draenor & Legion come with a level 90 & level 100 character of your choosing, so there’s that!
Also Legion isn’t out until August 30th, which will probably be between 7 & 9pm eastern time, so 5 or 7pm western time, since Blizzard launches stuff on Pacific time and the last 3 or 4 expansions i’ve played it’s always been after 7pm eastern time.
I would reply but it looks like just about everyone else has got your questions covered 🙂
Welcome to the Horde, I assume you went Horde because I mean who doesn’t go Horde. Maybe those weirdos over on the Frostmourne server =P
Eww Frostmourne. Dregs of the community right there.
I’m sure to join the Horde when I create a new character. I’m annoyed because I wanted to play a tiny Gnome tank, but can’t because they are a weirdo Alliance race. Grr.
Goblins are tiny, too. 🙂
Also, the majority of taybies are on Barthilas server. Except for a few oddballs like @transientmind.
It’s pvp but 90% horde.
PVE CAREBEARS REPRESENT
Hrm, I’m registered with Saurfang since it has the least amount of ping. You can have multiple characters over different servers, right?
Yeah, can use multiple servers. Have to pay to move characters between servers tho.
Also, if you have people on your battle.net friends list, you can invite them into a party and play with them cross-server.
Oh, Umart has sent my order, yay.
I really need a new CPU cooler for my PC, since I saw the CPU getting upto 90+ Celsius under load the other day. Problem is i’m not really sure what maybe an AIO so the heat is taken out of the case rather than being mixed in with the GPU heat…
Sounds like you have an airflow problem, yeah, so an AIO might be a good idea. I’ve always been hesitant about liquid cooling loops though. So easy for it to fuck up and ruin the whole computer. Plus when I last did any research (~2 years ago though) it was possible to get air cooling that was more efficient at lower volume so I ended up just getting a Noctua cooler back then. Don’t know if the situation’s changed, but if your current case can’t clear the hot air and everything inside is just swimming in its own heat then a big fan & heatsink isn’t going to help as much as a radiator & liquid loop will.
My case is set to positive pressure, the GPU doesn’t get above 65, just the CPU HSF i’m rocking is stock intel so yeah 😛 But there’s a few AIO units out there that have fittings like traditional water cooling does which imo seems like a better idea also they have a fill port.
I’m wondering if maybe the thermal pad on your cooler’s dried out. If the GPU is sitting at 65, the CPU shouldn’t be hitting 90 unless the cooling isn’t working correctly.
I recently got a new stock cooler ($3 on eBay brand new & bought some new thermal paste as well). I also turned the settings back in WoW went from 90+ at load to no higher than 65 on the CPU where as the GPU went down to high 50’s. So uh, may have been my fault 😛 But I still think I should invest in a better CPU cooler.
Ok, so after some time spent with Blast Ball I think I can conclude that the n3DS is arse and has no real use at all.
Meanwhile 3DS/XL with its respective Circle Pad Pro is boss. Kinda feel like jumping back into Revelations again, still got some age-old StreetPasses to flush out.
After some further testing, the n3DS isn’t quite so bad for Blast Ball, though it’s still somewhat of an awkward grip to play effectively and involves driving the lower right corner pretty hard into my palm. Managed to fight my way through and beat the Challenge mode, eventually, but taking it into the Fed Force training sims I still couldn’t be anywhere near as effective as over with the CPP. something like 10k vs 16k in the firing range, and 18k vs 25k in the combat sim.
@jocon Completely forgot that artifact relics boost the rank of one of your artifact weapon slots. Min-maxxing that is going to be a royal pain.
Ehh, pick ones that buff the abilities that you do top damage/heals with.
Not necessarily, most artifact talents are minor boosts to different abilities. You’ve got to take into account the legendary effect + set piece bonus when they’re out to min/max. That said looks like there’s very limited options at the higher ilvls so you’ll probably be forced into one set.
Stayed up till 11 last night finalizing the notes on Fire Mages, I might possibly be enjoying learning about all the other classes more than I actually enjoy playing WoW 😛 Also it’s starting to pay dividends; already have a few thoughts on how to drag out the enrage on Ursoc by another 5-10 seconds.
New motherboard installed \o/
New CPU and ram!
Have to re-install everything… Ugh
You need a new gpu yeah?
I’m thinking of picking up a 1070 so if I do, do you want my 670? Would that be sufficient for you?
I might just wait for now
You’re getting there! Then the Overwatching fun can continue, whoooo
Might be able to overwatch now
But that’s the fun part!
Not fun part D=
But fresh installs! All clean!
re-cracking the expensive programs I use.
I know that feeling. But new shiny things yay! What did you end up going with?
Intel core i5 and a gigabyte motherboard
Wanna borrow my RX480? It is going to be out of use until another film restoration job comes in, which could be many months away.
I don’t feel confident borrowing it, in case I break it because I am terrible
Earphones check, coffee check, spreadsheets check. Time to actually do some work this week. =D
By work I assume you mean WoW number crunching. That’s your job right?
What do you think the spreadsheets are for, financial data? PFFT!
You’d be surprised how much the two have in common at the moment; both require shutting down everything else knocking out some numbers analysis. There’s something almost zen-like to just losing yourself in a math problem.
That or I’m a massive nerd =P
For the first time in Stellaris, I’m making friends with AI empires… and it was with the bloody Rugroach Collective! Good job, you unkillable roaches, you! 😀
I’ve been on several multiplayer runs (Depending on who is available at the time, different games for each), and I’m getting more confident with each run of this game, even with rough starts with lacking of minerals I’m still able to pull a great economy and a powerful empire… whether or not it’ll be enough for the incoming late game threats, we’ll see 😛
While @spaghett ‘s in hiding:
Is it Winter enough for you all?
Last game played!
I’ve been staring in to the abyss of Monster Hunter Generations.
Last game? Disney Crossy Road, I think. No, actually… Fallen London.
Stellaris!
See above post, my Space Cockroaches are growing quite well, just got their Destroyer technology completed and flew ahead of their neighbours in terms of military power, their eyes set on the Empire that dared to claim them their rival without provocation… maybe they’ll be losing their empire to the roaches, we’ll see how benevolent and forgiving they are for such a treachery. All the while increasing my mineral output with Mining Network II upgrades on my planets and upgrading my fleet capacity with Spaceport upgrades if I have a high mineral surplus, it’s all coming together nicely 🙂
I too have dived into MHG. I’m only two stars in but rocking around with the charge blade. Pretty darn fun so far.
MHG, too. Working my way through* 3-star quests atm, think I’ve got only a couple left to go before the 4-star urgent. Started out with a longsword, but found that aerial switchaxe is ridiculous fun, if not overly effective. Will probably have to stop trying to jump over things, as I only hit them every third try, but I imagine that’ll cease to be a problem once I start chasing something big enough that I can’t jump over it. Might have to find something faster and more reliable for the smaller stuff, tho.
*By which I mean, farming a bunch as the next big thing I have to face is bloody intimidating, even tho I’ve not failed any hunts thus far.
You’ll jump straight up if the stick is neutral before you launch off the monster. Stops overshooting the smaller ones.
True… but the smaller ones have usually moved (eg. Lagombi) or started an AoE (eg. Khezu) by the time I drop back to their height so I can actually hit them 😛 Maybe I should actually try hitting them on the upward part of the jump… it seemed so counter-intuitive that it never occurred to me before.
It was like 28 degrees here last Friday/Saturday it sucked. Now it’s cool again, it’s lovely!
Last game? WoW..
So after 3 days of attempting it, I finally got my PC to upgrade from Win 7 to Windows 10. I’m pretty PC literate but boy they do not make it easy when things go wrong. May as well be a blue screen of death (come to think of it, the error message is blue sooooo…) for all the help it does you in troubleshooting.
Still, works ok so far. Biggest benefit has been that Citrix Receiver now works natively instead of me needing to run an XP Virtual disk. I mean, it should have worked natively on 7 too it just never did and I couldn’t figure out why.
Guess that means I can get a DirectX 12 GPU though. 😀
Windows >8 in a nutshell – if something goes wrong, and you know what you’re doing, there’s very little in the interface that actually tells you what went wrong. When I upgraded my old laptop to 10, the update failed so many times that I wanted to punch that stupid winky-face on the BSOD because there was never any explanation of what I could do to avoid it on the next upgrade attempt.
“Something went critically wrong with the upgrade process, and your computer may now be completely unusable! Isn’t that great? ;-)”
Yeah, I mean that’s literally what the error message is half the time. “Something went wrong with the update. Please try again.”
OK! So… tell me what that something was so I can fix it? Please?
In the end even after I got myself to an error message that had a code on it (0xC1900101 – 0x20017) I don’t know if the steps I took (@negativezero advised me that error comes when it tries to migrate bad / old drivers) actually had any effect (I unplugged all devices except my monitor, keyboard, and mouse) or if it was just the fact that I kept trying.
And even THEN it still took 3 goes before it would get past the white upgrade assistant and actually boot to the Win 10 install.
My pity and condolences to anybody who tries to upgrade and isn’t able to Google their way through it.
Or even better, when it seems to update successfully, then you log into Win10 and find that there’s no taskbar or desktop icons (actually happened to me on one attempt). Or, everything works fine except for one seemingly minor thing (eg. the Store app won’t let you log in) that every search result tells you can only be solved by a full reinstallation of the OS. Modularise your darn OS, Microsoft – then this wouldn’t happen, and we’d be able to install most updates without needing to reboot.
AH, HAHAHAHAHAHAHa. That happened to me. I rang @pixelferret in a panic. Turns out, because there was still partitions that had windows stuff on my hard drive, it refused to repair/install/upgrade. I had to go into advanced settings and delete them, but we messed around in the Bios a lot.
Man, my Win 7 > Win 10 experience was easy. Turned PC on one morning and it was all “Your Windows 10 is here, click to upgrade” 20 mins later I was adjusting to Windows 10. Haven’t had an issue since lol.
It *should* be easy, which is what makes it all the more frustrating when it’s not.
Yeah, the horror stories i’ve heard is just stupid. But then again i’m not overly surprised. My Windows 7 install before the one I upgraded from some how partly installed on a D drive I had which died. Caused me to reinstall Windows couldn’t be repaired :/
That moment when a hearthstone player doesn’t realize what the Majordomo card does and loses the next turn by turning into Ragnaros. Priceless.
Working hard then I see. :p
Shhh I finished all my spreadsheets in half the time I was expecting to take, decided to reward myself with some Hearthstone matches 😀 Work’s pretty chill that way, as long as the work gets done you can do w/e. I’ve even followed HS tournaments at work sometimes ^^
At my previous job repairing macs I would test clients machines for intermittent faults by streaming League of Legends tournaments on them while I worked.
Good times.
I legit had my faulty GPU come back twice and the final time I sent it in I gave them instructions to install and play WoW to guarantee the fault would manifest.
Their initial comment was, ‘it works fine with Splinter Cell’.
What the hell kind of spreadsheet are you working on?!
=If(Deathrattle=True,VLookup(“Ragnaros”,”SummonsTable”,4,False),”Majordomo Executus”)
I love Bloodborne.
Beat Father Gascoigne. Hell Yes!Bloodborne freaking rocks!
Though i beat my head against this boss
(care about spoilers?)
Ludwig the Accursedfor nearly 6 hours, got so angry!
Then finally got him and i had to share the recording on Youtube because i was so proud! 😛
Spoilers don’t bother me, I watched @batguy get the platinum trophy already, so I know what’s ahead and that I probably won’t ever get to the end.
But I’m wearing a dapper top hat now and I have two bosses under my belt. I could quit now and I’d be happy (I won’t though, it’s too satisfying!)
Top Hat is best hat! All the time!
@cookingmama I think you broke TAY with your comment. Silence now reigns supreme.
I think you’re right!
Damn my awesomeness.
Got all excited when I saw this at 10am
Now it’s all
Unfair =(
There’s only thing left to do; take the day off work and organize a road trip to the Gold Coast depot to collect it.
I already have the day off \o/ but i’m bottling up home brew today /o\ I also have nfi where the Gold Coast Fastway depot is..

Whoa, Eighting are alive! And look to be making some kind of VR fighting game. I’m not big on fighters, but their past stuff features quite prominently in the small list of ones I got into.
Got my PAX West passes in the mail yesterday.
Up here in Trump’s America we have four days instead of three, and each day has a separate pass instead of being able to just get an all-event pass like in AU, which is a pain.
What about PAX North? It’s a thing.
Technically PAX West is PAX North of Australia…
Thanks @scrumptatoes for helping out while I went AFK (my work got crazy busy then my computer decided to be a bit shit)
Last song played game? Yep it’s that time!!
Freak Your Mind by 3OH!3
What was YOUR last song played?
also @scrumptatoes , my last game played was Total War: Warhammer.
Also Fallout Shelter.
Tonight I’m slamming some GTA Online, and Handsome Jack Collection
Steely Dan – Deacon Blues.
No worries.
At the Limit of Fertile Land by Jute Gyte. Rather impressive, experimental black metal.
I like some black metal, sounds promising
Rock and Roll Nerd – Tim Minchin.
GWAR’s incredible cover of The Pet Shop Boy’s “West End Girls”
https://youtu.be/duF2KAs0Pqo
All their AV Club covers are amazing
The wheels on the bus (animal noises) – Dave and Ava
Hey Guys. So, I’ve decided to show you all my current wip which is taking forever
http://imgur.com/pyiPMEY I still have quite a lot to do, but, I hope you like it.
Wow nice Mercy! I wish I had some level of talent. What program did you use? And can I see some of your other work?
I use a combination of Photoshop and illustrator. For this, the base is drawn in photoshop and the line art and colouring is done in illustrator.
As for my other stuff. I’m trying a new style. The rest as shirt designs.

It is looking really good so far
Thank you! It really is taking a long time though =/
Yay for six hours sleep.
I have the chorus of Feasting on the Flowers stuck in my head.
Did I mention that I feel like I’ll nod off if my head goes past 45 degrees?
I am disappointed that the CK2 Re-Review wasn’t reposted on Kotaku-AU.
Same, the world needs to hear the gospel of Despot Simulator 2012
In my quest to not get a new phone and hold on my Sony Z3 decided to give up the ghost. Went looking at phone last night and is it just me or have phones kind of lost that excitement? Any recommendations on a good android phone? No hipster phones @mrtaco
One Plus 3 seems like a nice Droid from the reviews i’ve seen. Other than that, Nexus 5X & 6P are the only others that come to mind that seem like they’re the only others offering a proper experience now.
But i’m an iOS user so yeah 😛
I’ve been very happy with my Z5.
I wanted the Z5 too! Apparently Sony have very quick lifecycles and I couldn’t find one now the Xs are out.
I picked one up from Telstra a few weeks ago. I do recommend them
I am no help as I like windows phones.
So, all I can say is good luck!
Thanks :S am I getting old? Is that why I don’t get excited about new phones anymore???
It’s possible that they’re not catering to your market?
What about that phone that you can change all the parts yourself?
I’ve never been excited by phones so maybe I’ve always been too old for that
I think it’s because phones are just phones now. It’s not like when Nokia was king and you’d get a new phone that was exciting because it fit nicely into your pocket, or when smartphones came along and could do all this stuff you’ve never done before. Now the definition of smarphone has been cemented it’s like buying a pair of shoes. Apple don’t psych smartphone buyers up the way they used to, Android isn’t a cool alternative with features you’ve wanted on your iPhone for years. There isn’t even that rush you get from buying pointless gadgets. They’re all just phones that do normal phone things.
That’s because new phones are boring. Unlike my awesome old phone 😛
*Withdraws suggestion of Samsung’s incredibly impractical old timey rotary smartphone*
It depends on your love/hate of bloatware. If you want really clean Android, the Nexus 5X has really come down in price. I’m probably going need to replace my nexus 4 soon, it’s started getting very screwy.

If you want Android then go with a Nexus 5X. Stock Android and prompt updates and (especially) security patches should be #1 priority IMO and you only really get that in Nexus devices.
Yay! My HTPC parts showed up. Sadly I have to go out =( But they’re so pretty!

Also I now realise how small SFX power supplies are wow..
@jocon @windwaker, The guild’s live on WC logs, create your accounts and link up the bnet, if you need a manual guild code let me know. Will try to set up Ask Mr Robot logs this weekend.
Goddamit @distantdrop
Done, suppose I should give you my response, I’ll stick too Monk with tanking – way to many variables to plausible choose another tanking role.
Sounds like a plan, btw we might run all the MoP raids this saturday arvo for xmogs if you want to join.
If it happens you have any idea what difficulty? makes a big difference in terms of transmog choices.
Whatever the highest 10 man difficulty was for that xpac, if it’s 10 man heroic we’ll run that.
Done.
Shall need the Discord deets at some point too.
Yeah we were on there last night playing Overwatch; playing it badly I should add. The deets on the guild info section will be vaild till 10pm tonight, so grab them if you log on before then. If not I’ll re-upload new details tomorrow morning.
Do they change daily or something?
Yeah, I can lower the timer if needed but once you join a channel you don’t have to manually reconnect you get it saved permanently. You only need the link again if the channel admin boots you.
tl;dr Discord is about 100x easier to use/setup/administrate than any of the other options I’ve bothered to try to figure out.
Hmm. Discord auto updates with no option to disable thus, sets itself to run on startup with no option to change this in app, and continues to run in the background even when quit.
No.
I’ll give the web version a try.
I’ve managed to disable the startup sequence (gave me an option when I first set up the account), but yes you need to close it from your taskbar after you quit and I’ll need to have a look at the auto-updates. I’m sure there should be an option to disable it and switch to manual updates.
*sees We Happy Few coverage everywhere* Wait, didn’t I kickstart that? *digs through 12 months of emails* Apparently. *Digs deeper, finds a backerkit link from last July, finds Steam key, redeems* Cool, the key’s still valid. Now to forget about it for another 12 months. 😛
Spent the last couple of days catching up on new Steven Universe episodes, and I am loving the crap out of them. 🙂
They are so addictive
Damn. The Satellite Reign guys did a really good job with their Kickstarter, then instead of sending physical copies of the game to the backers who ordered them they sent physical copies to the backers who didn’t order them. I really hope having to do two runs of the game doesn’t cost them too much.
Trying to convince myself to pre order the new Xbox One S 2TB that drops on the 2nd of August (already own the PS4 and a PC) not sure if I’ll be wasting my money or not however? Am craving some Halo 5 however
Pre-order the Gears of War one that comes out in October instead? 😛
Ugh.
The TV with all the specs I want is $4000 and the second, more affordable choice isn’t sold in Australia.
