We love Afterlife with Archie’s horror-laden take on Riverdale, so we can’t wait to see what Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Francesco Francavilla, and Jack Morelli when they get their hands on an Archie Comics stalwart like Josie and the Pussycats. As this new preview shows, they’re doing some very sinister things.

We’ve got an exclusive first look at Afterlife with Archie #10, out next week, an issue that promises to give us the origins of Riverdale’s favourite pop band in this creepy, zombie-infested version of the Archie universe. Here’s the description for the issue:

BETTY: RIP Pt. 5, “Interlude with the Pussycats” Before the end of the world began, a female pop trio was setting charts on fire. But in a world of TMZ and paparazzi-driven media, somehow these women kept their private lives a secret from everyone — until now. A full-access interview promises to show the tragic and terrifying origin story of Josie and the Pussycats.

So how do you take Josie and the Pussycats and put them in this horror-infused world? Well, according to the preview below, it all starts by going back to just over a century ago …

How and why the Pussycats managed to survive into the present day, we’ll have to wait for the full issue to find out. But given Afterlife with Archie’s gleeful appropriation of Archie Comics lore, I bet something rather grim is involved. Afterlife with Archie #10 is out next Wednesday, August 31st.

  • “Pleanty of sunblock” and “I never drink…alcohol” would be a fairly large hint that vampires are going to be coming to play. Should be interesting how that works, especially with them not showing up in photos. How’d they get away with that when you’re a pop star?
