I Will Never Play Agony, Nope, Never

I Will Never Play Agony, Nope, Never

You know how there are some games and movies that make you immediately go “nope, not playing that”? Welcome to Agony.

The description is bad enough already. “Agony is a first-person, survival horror set in hell.” OK, that’s already raising a few red flags, but sure, I’ll bite.

And then I saw the trailer. A trailer which is basically black and white, a voice-over mentioning people ending up as corpses, blood everywhere, and something at the end involving a finger and an eyeball.

Nope, I’m out.

Yep, definitely out.

Agony’s launching some time next year on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, which is great! Because I’m not playing it. Ever.

      • I saw a demon in the game with boobs so they’ll probs use that as leverage for sexual violence or something, knowing them

        • as long as the demon doesnt fuck you with a pitchfork itll be fine, we can have violence and nudity as long as its not sexual violence eg dildo anal probes

          • BMX XXX was banned when there was no 18+ rating, but I’m sure you remember that too right?

          • We have an enforced ratings system in this country…? I thought the policy was to pay just lip service.

          • What about genital mutilation? I’m thinking Outlast Whistleblower, guess the classification board missed that one.

          • i dont think genital mutilation matters as long as its not sexual, if ya get your dick bitten off bad, blown off with shotgun good, cant say i know the outlast one to put it in context

    • Nah, it’ll get banned. They always find convenient excuses to ban stuff like this. I’ll thrown down a twenty on this one getting an RC.

  • Its got more “gore” horror than “fear” horror. I don’t think I’d have a problem with this.

I feel the best horror games are the ones that tap into our illogical fears and exploit the crap out of them.

P.T. was a great example of that with it’s… “I am alone. I am alone. I am alone. Am I alone? I am alone. Am I alone? I’m not alone. I’m not alone. Oh shit, I’m not alone. Oh god. OH GOD. I’M NOT ALONE. WHAT IS THAT. JESUS. SHH”

  • What, you’re not going to play a decades old sidescrolling shoot em up where you play an owl? Well, why would you, it’s ages old – oh. There’s a new game out called Agony. (That sounds, to be frank, kinda agonising.) Never mind.

This is going to make it harder when I search for Old!Agony’s soundtrack on Youtube.

  • I can’t be the only one who found that trailer funny rather than disturbing can I?

The shlocky voice-over and script… random music changes… dodgy animations… Legit a few laugh-out-loud moments.

But hey, I love horror so I might give this a shot if it doesn’t end up being as terrible as this trailer makes it seem.

    • I don’t get why the article used the most recent trailer to talk about this game when the developer dropped an 8 minute gameplay video during Gamescom. The latter conveys the atmosphere of a choking, otherworldly mausoleum, while the former makes me want to walk away and forget about this mildly interesting looking experience.

  • The soundtrack is very Reznor/Clouser, can’t spot anything to confirm or deny, feel like digging that up Alex? 😉

  • This is the kind of game that has content that fascinates me. Atmospheric horror and disturbing Hell imagery. But I won’t play it because I’m a wuss. Shame.

Re-reading that makes me sound like a total weirdo. I just find anything Hell-related interesting. And a dark atmospheric scare fest through Hell itself is so cool to me. Not like Doom with its fast paced cartoony stuff

  • This looks pretty horrible but I would much rather play fantasy horror like this then something in a more realistic setting like Hatred which really disturbed me in a bad way.

  • It has taken a while but it looks like someone has finally programmed the correct version of hell, Dante wrote about so many, many years ago.

  • I’ve been dying for a game like this to come out. Hopefully, if it delivers on its promises, it might inspire some game developers to be a bit more daring
