YouTube celebrity PewDiePie is releasing his second game, PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator, in the vein of other YouTube simulators, which are often in part inspired by YouTube celebrities like PewDiePie. Help — we’re getting sucked into a vortex.
PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator
In a tweet yesterday, PewDiePie announced his Tuber Simulator, a free-to-play mobile game that he says is “different from other similar titles”. In an email to Kotaku, developer Outerminds Games described the title, an RPG about becoming YouTube-famous:
Follow in the footsteps of one of the biggest internet stars, PewDiePie, by creating your very own pocket Tuber! Having no money and no fame doesn’t even make you flinch, because YOU will become the biggest, baddest Tuber ever in no time and kick PewDiePie out of his own throne.
Your room smells, the walls and carpets are full of holes, but with all those views you’ll be making, it can quickly become the coolest studio EVER! You can then show off your awesome room to the world by sharing it online and even vote for others’ rooms. Follow your favourite players, connect with friends, send or receive gifts and build your way to the top!
PewDiePie himself dropped out of university to focus on his YouTube gaming channel, working a job he says “wasn’t that prestigious” to make ends meet. In 2014, his channel earned him $US7.4 million ($9.8 million). In the past, PewDiePie has described being a YouTube star with extreme ambivalence: “This is the truth behind YouTube. We’re all depressed. Why would anyone want to become a YouTuber? For the fame? For the money? For the mum yelling at you? Look at me. Look at where I am. Look at my shitty content. Was it worth it? I don’t know. I’ve gotten so many views, but at the same time, I’m PewDiePie. You know what I mean? I just feel dirty. I used to be so young and innocent. Look at me. Look at me now. You don’t want to be a YouTuber. Get a real job.
Let’s see whether any of that angst makes it in his new game.
Outerminds Games also designed PewDiePie’s last game, Legend of the Brofist, which was reviewed very positively on Steam. The 2D platformer led players on an “Epic Quest” on which they unlock other YouTube stars like PewDiePie’s girlfriend Marzia and YouTube gaming celebrity Markiplier.
Outerminds sent us some exclusive screenshots. Check them out:
However, PewDiePie has been teasing the game on his Twitter for a few weeks now:

This reminds me of Penny Arcade. I have never liked the comic/organisation or whatever you want to describe it as now. but they went from their ‘sticking it to the industry’ schtick to the current ‘part of the industry anyway’ location in the end.
How many of these Youtubers are part of the same Youtube network now anyway? This seems more like a reality tv music talent show than a game about rags to riches.
It seems like every major youtuber belongs to either Maker (which I think is owned by Disney) or Fullscreen (not sure who Fullscreen is but I know they bought Rooster Teeth a year or two ago).
All I could think of is “Man, what an ego”
this is some narcissistic stuff alright….
It’s like pointing two mirrors at each other.
Reskinned Kim Kardashian game.
There was a demand for a second game?
Wait, wait, wait … There was a demand for a first game?
Not understanding the butthurt in the comments. No one cared when Angry Video Game Nerd did the same thing, in both game and movie form.
Possibly because he at least had a schtick of being an Angry Video Game Nerd. It wasn’t the Game!
