Digimon World: Next Order Is Coming To The West, But Not On Vita

Digimon World: Next Order Is Coming To The West, But Not On Vita

The Digimon game featuring a breeding system so complex Richard Eisenbeis had to make a spreadsheet is coming to the West, but not in its original portable form. Digimon World: Next Order arrives on PlayStation 4 in early 2017.

Digimon’s popularity is on the rise, which leads to games outside of the kiddy fare we’re used to coming to the West. Earlier this year we were treated to Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, a Persona-esque RPG, and now Bandai Namco is bringing the adventure of Digimon World: Next Order over in early 2017.

But while Cyber Sleuth received a duel physical release on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4, Next Order, originally released in Japan on just the Vita, is only getting a PS4 release.

Vita owners are letting their disappointment be known in the comments for the game’s YouTube announcement trailer.

“No Vita, no buy.”

“Fuck you all, I want a Digimon game soo fucking bad, and you only release it for PS4? Fuck consoles ”

“Vita version, please!! Not everyone has the time to sit in front of TV all day to play. I played Cyber Sleuth mostly during my break hours.”

That third comment has a point. Would Eisenbeis have sunk so much time into the Japanese release if he had to sit in front of his television the whole time? Probably, but he wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much. Here’s hoping Bandai Namco decides to release at least a digital version of Next Order on the Vita as well, instead of just the upscaled console port.

Bandai Namco issued an updated press release, which listed digital versions of PlayStation 4 and Vita, as well as a physical release for PS4. And then they issued another release, rescinding the Vita part of the announcement.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. would like to correct and confirm information pertaining to platform availability and distribution methods for Digimon World: Next Order. The game will be made available to players in the Americas in early 2017 exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system in both digital and boxed-retail versions.

Mistakes were made in our initial announcement for Digimon World: Next Order and we regret any confusion this may have caused to our fans. BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. looks forward to sharing more news and details pertaining to Digimon World: Next Order in the coming months leading to the game’s early 2017 launch.
