A whole series of Minecraft novels are reportedly set to hit shelves, with the endeavour kicked off with a book by Max Brooks, author of World War Z. And why not? A giant, successful game is obviously ripe for being adapted into other media, and Minecraft is already set to be a movie released in 2019. Hopefully, the book won’t take that long.

According to the Mojang post, Brooks’ book will look like a “cuboid Robinson Crusoe, but madder: A hero stranded in an unfamiliar land, with unfamiliar rules, learning to survive against tremendous odds”. I do wonder how you convey the “cuboid” part in text, but that’s a challenge for Brooks to overcome.

Unless the book contains Autistic 12 year olds yelling at each other its not a true Minecraft book.
Just finished rereading World War Z. It’s one of my favourites and a definite masterpiece. It’s truly intelligent writing and, while I’m trying to be open-minded, it’s hard to see this Minecraft project as a good use of his talents. I guess he’s earned our trust, so I’ll wait and see. For anyone who hasn’t read WWZ, it’s nothing like the Brad Pitt movie, so please give it a try. Perfect if you like The Walking Dead.
