Earlier this year, a mass shooting claimed the lives of 50 people in Orlando, Florida, in an incident that was both the deadliest shooting and most violent hate crime against LGBT people in American history. Now, people across the comics industry and beyond are coming together for a one-off special issue to remember the tragedy.
Due in December from IDW and DC Comics, Love is Love is a 144-page special comic project organised by writer Marc Andreyoko. The issue will feature over 100 short stories — just one or two pages apiece — celebrating LGBT comics heroes and commemorating the loss of life in Orlando, featuring contributions from the likes of Patton Oswalt, Olivier Coipel, Damon Lindelof and Phil Jimenez. Some are stories and some are pinups, like this stunning Batwoman piece by Rafael Albuquerque:
While it’s surprising there aren’t other publishers involved in this project — Marvel’s absence, in particular, is notable — it is a testament to the comics community that it can come together for something as powerful as this.
Love is Love will retail for $US10 ($13), with all proceeds going to Equality Florida‘s fund for victims and survivors of the Orlando shooting.

I’ve always wanted to start some Batwoman but was never quite sure where to start. This should be great.
The character really has come into her own in the last decade or so, I know it’s en vogue to not like Bat-characters these days but I can only hope her star rises, along with whoever else gets featured in the comic.
First two arcs of The New 52 Batwoman were enjoyable. Good place to start.
Ah fuck people who don’t like Bat characters, they’re awesome and some of the best developed characters DC has.
Jason Todd & Cassandra Cain, yeah boy.
That being said Renee Montoya is still probably my favourite “LBG character”, probably the coolest chick around.
I think it’s been hinted heavily at that Jason Todd is bi for a long time now? When *first* reintroduced I was against bringing him back but he’s proven himself to be a particularly deep, engaging character who has brought a fantastic range into the Bat-verse. Cassandra is awesome too. I particularly like the depth they’re giving Tim Drake lately as well.
Hey man, ain’t nothing wrong with craving that Bruce D, dudes got mad parental figure issues (which makes a lot of sense when you think about it).
Tim I am on the fence about, but mostly because New 52 largely relegated him to a very average version of Dick Grayson. He wasn’t nearly as intelligent as he used to be, he wasn’t a great leader when it came to the Teen Titans (unlike Dick) and he didn’t make a particularly stalwart fighter (unlike Jason). He might be better in Detective Comics, but I have been trying to cut down on my weekly pull; which as a side note is down to about 3-4, with the once off of six (Birthright, Red Hood & the Outlaws, Old Man Logan, Deathstroke, Suicide Squad and admittedly Teen Titans).
From what we can tell, the Rebirth series is about to put a very interesting plot towards Tim Drake. I think one of the best things they did for him was turning him into Red Robin rather than having him eternally Robin. Quite frankly though I’ve never warmed to Damian Wayne as Robin, I just can’t stand him.
Damian’s first arc with Dick as bats in Batman and Robin is good, you really get to see him grow and mature. Honestly Dick and Damian are my favourite duo in the batfam. you can see how the relationship between Dick/Damian develops, and the reversal of the typical serious batman/jokey robin dynamic is a lot of fun.
Love living in a world where the gender of the people you fuck is such a defining character trait. Spoilers for Danganronpa 3, but I’m surprised out of everything that anime did poorly that it had a homosexual character that played like a normal hetero love interested without harping on it. Played absolutely straight and so much better for it.
