We reported last week how Niantic were set to make changes to Pokemon GO that would make it easier for people to battle at friendly gyms. But in the patch, which rolled out this morning on iOS, there’s an added bonus for catching Pokemon.
According to the patch notes, posted on the Pokemon GO Site, trainers will now get an bonus upon catching Pokemon “as they catch more of a specific type”. The bonus, according to images of the new achievements posted online, appears to give you a slightly better chance during capture.
As far as users have been able to tell, the medals will occasionally intervene when you go to capture a Pokemon. The medals will appear on the Gotcha! screen when they come into effect, and they only do so whenever they turned what would have been a failed capture attempt into a successful one.
The medal icons can be seen at the top
Another nice quality of life change is a tweak to the Egg and Incubator screens. They’ll now update the distance walked without having to refresh the screen, although it doesn’t say how often the pages update.
Here’s the full list of changes:
Catch Bonus: Trainers can earn a catch bonus for a Pokémon type as they catch more of a specific type.
Updated Gym Training: Trainers can now bring six Pokémon to battle at friendly Gyms. The CP of the Pokémon you are battling may be temporarily adjusted lower for your training session.
Egg & Incubator Screens: These will periodically update the distance walked without the Trainer needing to close and reopen the screen.
Fixed several audio issues.
Decreased the evolution animation time.
Minor fixes
The website lists the patch numbers as 0.41.2 and 1.11.2 for Android and iOS, although another update has been rolled out for Android in the past 24 hours. There doesn’t appear to be any changes or additional features, however, so it’s probably more of a hotfix or some other minor correction.

My Pokemon Go Plus should also get a much-needed boost.
I’ll be able choose whether it pops off for just pokemon or poke-stops.
Plus, it won’t be disabled when I use the app itself from now on apparently.
Happy days.
I’d love the ability to set a preference between the 2 instead of just disabling it, but yeah, it’s a nice inclusion
I’m pretty sure he is saying that you can. It’s in the latest update that has rolled out.
I’ve had the update for a couple days, got it immediately through a mirror. It lets you disable either option, but not keep both active and just set a preference for one or the other.
It’s interesting the two options are somehow linked in this way. I will have to test it out this weekend.
Sweet. That will help next level when I get a lucky eggNot convinced about the training change, although it might lead to more low level pokemon in gyms
As far as I can tell it was barely decreased at all. Maybe a second off the end?
I was hoping the duration would be halved.
Yeah tried it after I posted. Seems like it is a few seconds quicker but not really noticeable. Seems to be mostly when the evolution finishes and the new mon is shown, removing the time it just sits on the pedestal before it rises. That was always annoying as it wasn’t clear if you needed to tap to finish the animation or not
