Night Dive Studios, specialists in re-releasing classic PC games for more modern hardware, have announced today that they will soon be bringing Turok 2 (first released in 1998) back from the dead.
Having worked on restoring the original Turok (as well as games like System Shock), the announcement doesn’t really say much beyond the fact it will be released “when it’s done”, but then, it doesn’t really need to.
Turok 2 was a cool video game, and it had multiplayer where the original did not. People have always loved guns and dinosaurs, and they will always love them.
For an idea of the kind of stuff you can expect, here’s what they did to the original Turok:
- Support for high resolutions, and widescreen
- Improved gameplay and level design
- OpenGL for video backend to provide portability and support for vertical sync
- Dynamic lighting, bloom, FXAA, enhanced water effects and lights shafts
- Ability to freely rebind all keyboard, mouse and gamepad inputs
- Steam Achievements

Fired this up on the n64 for the month with my brother, and it took us ages to get used to how this played.
But it was still a lot of fun.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
It had good ideas but multiplayer was a bit dumb. Rocket to the chest did 12 damage. Crossbow (the crappy starter weapon) to the head was an instant kill.
You could be the raptor.
Your argument is invalid.
Clever girl.
Cerebral. Bore.
Surely it’s against the law to write anything on this game without mentioning it.
Exactly my thoughts. One of the best multiplayer weapons ever. Didn’t always hit, but when it did… soooo satisfying.
Loved this game back in the day. Never did finish it though. Got to the Primagen’s Lightship but didn’t finish. That level was massive
