2D fighting games are a very video game kinda thing, but where there’s a will, there’s a Way of the Fighter, an upcoming board game that tries to replicate the digital genre on a tabletop.
It looks like a pretty decent attempt at an adaptation. There’s a stage that players move back and forwards across, you can equip moves and skillsets onto characters, there’s initiative and even the art is suitably fighting gamey.
Oh, and there are a lot of dice.
The game is currently up on Kickstarter, but if you really want to see how it all works (beyond the instructional video below), you can download a prototype version of the game here, print it out and try it yourself.

Honestly there are much better board games that are designed like fighting games that are already out.
The main issue with this is that it uses dice, no game trying to emulate fighting games should have RNG in it.
If you are looking for a fighting game board game, i recommend BattleCON, no dice, all skill and reading your opponent.
Yep, Battlecon and Yomi (designed by SF expert David Sirlin) are your go to games for tabletop versions of fighting games.
Not to say there’s not room for more, and that this game isn’t any good, but the article is a little misleading in giving the impression that this is the first attempt at translating fighting games to tabletop.
