Plays Like This Are How You Go Undefeated In A Dota 2 Tournament

Team Liquid just went undefeated on every map in the DreamLeauge Season 6 tournament hosted at DreamHack Winter 2016. People have been waiting for the talent on the team to coalesce into something very special and we might be on the verge of finally seeing that happen.

While everyone on the team, from Lasse “MATUBAMAN” Urpalainen to Kanishka “BuLba” Sosale, put in a tremendous amount of work, rising to the occasion whenever the moment required it, some of the sneakiest and most fun plays to watch always seem to come from the wunderkind, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi.

While Liquid took a best-of-five series against runners-up, Escape Gaming, pretty handily, one of the most clutch moments came during the team’s semifinal against Alliance.

Caught trying to escape, Miracle- first gets a little help from his evasion which buys him some time so he can blink away from trouble before dying. But then he get’s nailed with a stun from the Alchemist right as he’s trying to teleport back to the safety of his own base. Just when it looks like the 19-year old is about to bite it a second time, however, he manages to spawn his illusions and bait the opposing team into chasing the wrong ones.

Not only does that somehow buy him time to scamper through the woods, but he also manages to blink away from trouble a third and final time just milliseconds before an ultimate from Warlock would have burned him alive. To add insult to injury for Escape, Miracle- snipes their courier before getting healed up by his teammate and going back to pressuring the front of their base.

Usually, when normal players pop illusions, the opposing team knows which ones are fake and which is real because of how they move. The one that is the player will be running for their lives while the copies simply stand in place bashing the opponent. In Miracle-‘s case, however, he sent one of the copies running while he stood in place, disorienting the other team until he could slip away in the confusion.

Miracle- was given the Rookie of the Year award for 2016 by the eSports Industry Awards, and you can see why. The first-place finish netted Liquid $US90,000 ($120,900) and the team’s first tournament victory since EPICENTRE earlier this year in the spring.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Liquid compete at next month’s Boston Major since the team failed to make it through European qualifying earlier this year.
