The Off Camera Secrets Of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Over-the-top cut-scenes aside, I always had a soft spot for the Gamecube remake Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. This video confirms what I’ve always suspected about the project: it was a bit of a labour of love.

Off Camera Secrets is a YouTube series that detaches the camera in classic video games to find aspects of the game we were never supposed to see. It’s fascinating.

Fascinating in that it highlights the shortcuts developers often take because of memory concerns, but also the lengths some studios go to create an additional layer of authenticity.

That seems to be the case with Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. There are interesting moments where entire body parts aren’t rendered to make it easier on the GameCube, but also sections where entire rooms are created just for a twenty second cut-scene.

Incredible.
