Total Annihilation Designer Chris Taylor Leaves Wargaming

After a failed Kickstarter and the acquisition of his studio, Gas Powered Games, by Wargaming, Chris Taylor hasn’t really been in the public eye. You couldn’t help but wonder what the famous designer was working on at the cash-plump company. Turns out, we may never know, with Taylor departing Wargaming to do his own thing again.

Speaking with both Taylor and Wargaming, VentureBeat’s Dean Takahashi was able to confirm the designer’s split. According to Taylor, his priorities are to “regroup, and recharge” before “[diving] into [his] next thing”:

“Between Gas Powered Games and Wargaming, it was an eighteen year stretch and I wore myself out and didn’t realize it,” Taylor told GamesBeat.

While Taylor didn’t reveal much else about his plans, Wargaming was able to elaborate on the departure itself:

We thank Chris for his passion and excitement, where he was instrumental in growing our Seattle team into a world class developer. As head of development Matias Myllyrinne has put it, ‘Chris is a seasoned leader and one of a kind creative visionary whose projects inspired a whole generation of people to pursue a career in video games. He has laid down the foundations for Wargaming Seattle.

Who knows what Taylor will tackle next. Kickstarter didn’t work out back in 2013, but perhaps 2017, or even 2018, will prove better timing.
