How To Get Pokemon GO’s New Baby Pokemon

Pokemon Go

Pokemon GO today rolled out at least seven new baby Pokemon, which spawn from eggs. All day, players have been dutifully hatching the new little guys from two, five and ten-kilometer eggs.

It’s tiers below players’ hopes for an entire second generation, but hey, at this point, they take what they can get.

Here’s how to catch Magby, Elekid, Smoochum, Pichu, Togepi, Igglybuff and Cleffa:

Where To Get Eggs

Head to a PokéStop. There, you’ll pick up the occasional egg, along with Pokéballs and potions.

How To Get Incubators

You’ll start off the game with just one incubator. Fortunately, you can get infinite uses out of that one. Unfortunately, to better the chances that you’ll hatch a new baby Pokemon, you’ll have to pick up a few more so you can have a several eggs incubating at the same time. Head to Pokemon GO’s shop and buy one, or two, or many if that’s your thing.

Which Eggs Hatch Which New Pokemon

Players today have found that the seven new baby Pokemon don’t hatch at the same rate. Here are the rates players are currently reporting:

  • Igglybuff and Cleffa hatch from 2k eggs
  • Pichu and Togepi hatch from 5k eggs
  • Magby, Elekid and Smoochum hatch from 10k eggs

How To Hatch Eggs

Go to your “Pokemon” tab. There, you’ll see the “Eggs” tab on the top right. Select the egg you want to start incubating and walk (don’t drive) the designated number of kilometers.

What Might Come Out

Players have not seen Tyrogue, another 2nd generation baby Pokemon. Some claim that it’s not in the Pokédex (when you check Pikachu’s Pokédex entry, for example, a space appears for Pichu. That’s not the case for Hitmonchan and Tyrogue). Warning: What might come out of an egg is not guaranteed to be a new Pokemon. You can still get a trash Caterpie.

In Other News…

Topegi can evolve into 2nd generation Pokemon Togetic with 50 candies, implying that other 1st generation Pokemon may be able to evolve as well, or that other Gold and Silver Pokemon are still hiding.

Also, players will into holiday-themed Pikachus with little Santa hats until December 29th. When holiday Pikachu evolves into Raichu, it keeps the hat. Amazing. If only they could get that “Tracker/” thing down…
