During the Game Awards, Bethesda showed off gameplay of the new Prey.
The trailer shows main character Morgan Yu shooting and sci-fi super-powering his way through a space station, taking on shadow monsters and transforming into weapons of mass destruction like a coffee cup. Given how much they have promoted it, there had BETTER fucking be an official Prey coffee cup in the pre-order package that I will never touch. In short, though, it looks like System Shock meets Dishonored, which is to say, pretty sweet.
Prey, which doesn’t really have much to do with the previous Prey, is in development at Dishonored developer Arkane’s Austin studio. It’s was scrapped. Where Prey 2 was set to be full of open-world parkour shenanigans, Arkane’s Prey derives clear inspiration from games like System Shock, while also continuing Arkane’s grand tradition of wacky yet terrifying powers (see: possessing coffee cups).
Prey will be out next year.

Can’t get too excited. I’ve played through a LOT of deserted space stations. Shadow monsters don’t really do it for me and possessing a coffee cup? Ummm. Well that’s obviously magic, which I don’t love in sci fi settings.
I love me some system shock though. So here’s hoping.
Coffee cup was not possessed. The character manipulated their matter to become an identical coffee cup… However that makes it no less odd. And also doesn’t explain how the cup can move…
Magic.
Magical science
I possess two coffee cups, and I’m no magician.
But you are obviously extremely wealthy. 2!
I really like the look of this.
On one hand, I like the look of this and I like Arkane.
On the other hand the shit Bethesda/Zenimax pulled to human head makes me uncomfortable about supporting this.
I haven’t heard about what they did to Human Head. I was under the impression that the game just went to development hell until it was stopped, retooled and sent to a new dev.
This looks like System Shock made by Flying wild Hog.
Wow, the enemies look almost exactly like the ones in Heart of Darkness.
I wish they had kept it like the original trailer, alien bounty hunter set however many hundred years after the original.
Wasn’t the old Prey game the one with the space indian and those really bizarre boots that would let you walk up special tracks upside down and along the walls? I loved that game. I hope they kept those weird tracks those were fun in multiplayer.
We must have played a different System Shock (1 and/or 2; you didnt specify). SS was mostly mutated humans and cyborgs
