The New Pokemon Anime Masters The Art Of Silly Faces

Pokemon Sun and Moon is a silly TV show, but some of the facial expressions it has been unloading are nothing short of art.

Online in Japan, some people are calling the new Sun and Moon show a “kaogei anime” (顔芸アニメ), which means being skilled at making silly faces. It’s often used in Japanese comedy, with some comedians being masters of goofy grins.

Ken Shimura, for example, is an expert at silly expressions.

Some anime in the past have featured kaogei scenes. Naver had even done a roundup of different shows from over the years, which is worth checking out if you like funny faces.

Over the years, the Pokemon anime has been no stranger to over-the-top facial expressions. Case in point:

However, since last season’s show made Ash seem cooler than ever before, Sun and Moon‘s goofy mugs stand out even more.
