Welcome to 2017.
The pop star will be a character in free-to-play mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which was released on iOS and Android around six months ago.
Here’s some footage of the character:
And here is a very strange photo:
And here’s Grande cosplaying as…herself, I guess.
Note that this kind of cultural tie-in is not strictly a first for the franchise; British pop star Leona Lewis did a bunch of stuff for the release of Final Fantasy XIII, including singing the game’s theme song.
Though she did not appear in the game as a cute little cartoon character with giant bunny ears.

Wow this is cringe worthy.
… and this is what Final Fantasy has come to.
/shakes head sadly
Here is footage of the character in action:
Overwatch ad plays showing off Reaper.
That’s a strange new direction for Final Fantasy. Seriously, I know ads are needed to support the site, but maybe make it so they come after the image your last line in the article references.
These ads are bad. When I have Spotify going it pauses the music. Have then go hit play again on the tunes. I understand that Kotaku has to support itself with ads but this video one that loads automatically on every article plus giz and lh has to go. I remember Campbell saying he was going to look into it but never heard an update.
I don’t even know who that is. Must be the young people’s music. Get off my lawn.
Final Fantasy died after X.
She’s a Viera, i’m totally fine with this.
Fran was the best thing (along with Balthier) to come from 12, shame about her name though..
Not really. One of those men in suits she tweeted about made a tenuous connection between one of their past characters and her last album cover.
Well she is pretty popular in Japan, so it makes perfect sense imo.
Hope for the future…. gone.
