The Concept Art Behind Life Is Strange

The Concept Art Behind Life Is Strange

Life is Strange is, in its own way, one of the prettiest video games of the past few years. It shouldn't surprise any of you, then, that the art behind the game is also very easy on the eye.

This story was originally published in January 2016.

Edouard Caplain works at developers DONTNOD, and these images are some of the stuff he worked on during development of the episodic adventure series.

You can see more of Edouard's work at his ArtStation page.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios.

As much as I loved Life is Strange I'm not sure that it was the beauty of the artstyle that made the visuals so memorable but rather the way it captured a mood that I don't believe I've come across in any other game (Firewatch occasionally comes close though). There's a sort of mood that permeates the whole game that feels both familiar and totally magical.

I really wanted to discuss that aspect of Life is strange in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X848mX6msl4 but it didn't fit with the focus of the thing (and it was hard to explain without specific and major spoilers).
