This Blade Runner Fan Film Looks Absolutely Gorgeous

Even fan films get lavish trailers these days — but this trailer for Slice of Life, set within the world of Blade Runner, is almost lavish enough to make us think it was coming straight from Blade Runner 2049.

Directed by Luka Hrgović and first posted by The Verge, Slice of Life follows a drug dealer turned good and a mysterious cop in the gritty future of Blade Runner‘s Los Angeles, but while we don’t get anything much from this trailer in terms of plot, it more than makes up for it with the painstaking recreation of the original movie’s aesthetic.

Those city vistas and model shots look like they could’ve come right out of the original movie. It’s kind of mindboggling. Unfortunately, this trailer is pretty much all there is of Slice of Life at the moment — Hrgović and the team are heading to Kickstarter to crowdfund the remaining model shots for the film, as well as other post-production effects and scoring to complete the final movie, which is expected to be around 20 to 25 minutes long.

Hopefully, given its clear connections to the world of Blade Runner, going to crowdfunding doesn’t land the team behind Slice of Life in the same trouble we recently saw with Paramount, CBS, and the Star Trek: Axanar production. It’d be great to see even more of this take on a beloved sci-fi world.
