It’s hard to believe that in just a few years DC’s ’40s pinup takes on its female characters, the Bombshells, have evolved from a small line of statuettes to a full on merchandising empire — they even got an excellent comic book! Ahead of this weekend’s New York Toy Fair, we have an exclusive look at what’s to come for the Bombshells.
Three new products will be making their debut at Toy Fair, starting off with the next wave of DC’s Designer Series action figures — 18cm figures that emulate the art style of a specific artist to bring their comic art into the realm of 3D action figures. The next wave of Bombshells-themed toys will feature Hawkgirl, Supergirl, Batgirl, Bumblebee, Mera and Katana, all based on the original artwork of Ant Lucia. You can expect these to set you back around the usual price of $US25-30 ($32-39) when they arrive later this year.
There will also be two more entries in the Bombshells statuette line coming soon. First up is another version of Harley Quinn — one of Lucia’s most iconic redesigns for the line — due out later this year, with a special 30cm deluxe version of the character bringing to life for the first time the full version of Lucia’s original concept art of Harley riding on a falling bomb. She’ll set you back $US200 ($261) when she releases in September.
Harley will be followed in 2018 by a wholly new Bombshells debut, with a new design and statuette based on beloved Teen Titan Starfire, appearing in the Bombshells for the first time. There’s no price detailed for the princess of Tamaran just yet, nor is there a release date beyond next year.
