Oh my god I need it.
Though Pokémon has always held broad appeal across all genders, toy maker Tomy says female fans have been clamoring for stuff made specifically for them. And so we’re getting adorable little miniature playsets, purse Pokémon and awesome headbands. Works for me.
I was initially confused as the Tomy rep took me through the girls section of the Pokémon booth at the New York Toy Fair yesterday, but I get the appeal of feeling like your favourite thing is trying to get your specific attention. That said, I am a firm believer in crossing aisle lines at Toys’R’Us. Cool toys are cool toys, no matter who they’re target at.
I would wear these every day. Maybe with the wigs.
And so we get official Pokémon plush ear headbands $US7.99 ($10). And now I can carry around Fennikin in a transparent shoulder bag, which might be a dream I once had.
Like purse dogs, only they don’t poop.
But the stars of the Pokémon girls line are the new stylised figures and their little playsets.
These little guys are too damn cute. Figures and accesories suction to their bases. These are $US6.99 ($9) each.
These are some of the most “pocket” of the pocket monsters, available on their own or as part of tiny playsets.
Garden Adventure Playsets feature little scenes and two critters for $US12.99 ($17).
The Escape In The Forest playset is $US24.99 ($33) and comes with Fennikin. Also those other ones.
The Party House playset is $US19.99 ($26) and is probably going to get real turnt at some point.
Along with the tiny little Pokémon, the Escape in the Forest playset comes with an honest-to-goodness female human figure. Hey kids, it’s Serena!
We can’t have Pokémon running wild without supervision, now can we?
As far as I’m concerned, Tomy’s girl-focused line of Pokémon toys just means I might have even more reasons to browse the pinker aisles of Toys’R’Us. They have got so much good stuff over there.
