When A Police Chief Tries Online Gaming For The First Time

"Well, the abuse is quite instantaneous."

Yes, this is comedy. It isn't real obviously, but I thought this perfectly skewers the complete inability of police to understand video games on any level whatsoever. A fact we were alerted to recently in Australia when NSW Police Minister Troy Grant went on TV to complain about a seven-year-old Grand Theft Auto IV mod.

I guess the serious side to this is law enforcement's terrible record on dealing with online threats in any meaningful way whatsoever. Yep, that needs an update for sure.

Also, I'm Scottish, so if anyone needs any translation help, I'll be available in the comments.

notice how he dosen't touch the joysticks while he is moving

Online abuse coming from a Scottish accent always comes off sounding better somehow...

      I agree!

Wish I could play on a Scottish-only server!

"That lassie got glassed, and no can't leaves here till we find out what can't did it."

I dont think the that the complete inability of police to understand video games on any level whatsoever is 100% accurate. I'm a police officer that plays video games, as do many of the other officers I work with. I think the reaction of the NSW police minister is more to do with his age than his profession as a police officer. And as for the ability to react to online threats/offences its more a case of legislation catching up with the current problems, and granted maybe some older police officers reactions to anything relating to anything online. Again more to do with age than profession.

Hold up @markserrels ... You think that police don't understand vidja games on any level what so ever?

I'm at a relatively small station and we've got 3 gamers here, including one that is a hardcore raider in WoW. And myself of course, I've been a gamer since ~1994 and in the force the last few years.

    Nice generalization!

Is this the show Grado was on? Seemed like a good fit.
