There’s a Kickstarter currently running for an app called Shout Around, which is designed specifically for anyone attending events like gaming, anime and cosplay conventions.
Built on geolocation and friends lists, the idea is that it can be used both to meet new people and catch up with the ones you already know. It works a little like Tinder, only instead of trying to bang, you’re catching up with pals. There’s also the ability to send out “shouts”, like a digital bat signal, and anyone within a certain distance will know that you’re TAKING PHOTOS HERE or will be GOING TO PIZZA THERE.
For end users, Shout Around is intended as a free app, with ads sliding in amongst user profiles kind of like how Instagram slides its ads into your feed.
The app is the work of cosplay photographer Martin Wong, whose work we’ve featured here plenty of times before, and if this sounds like your kind of thing you can help get it made here.
