FPS/Immersive Sim
…what?
Immersive Sims are games like Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock, Dishonored and others where the game gives the player a core set of tools and gives them free reign in finding out how the tools work with and/or against the systems of the game.
This video by Mark Brown would explain it better than I ever could:
We call them FPA, First Person Adventures.
Who’s “we”?
And I’d say First Person Adventure would be better suited for games like Metroid Prime – that is, if there were any other games like Metroid Prime. FPA doesn’t really fit with immersive sims imo because well, outside of Ultima Underworld, a lot of them aren’t adventures – for whatever reason, immersive sims seems to work best in the mould of a stealth game, as evidenced by Deus Ex, Thief and Dishonored.
Huh, I always referred to games like Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Firewatch as First Person Adventures.
I’ve never heard of either term. Huh. The more you know.
Phew, a whole season to work on my pile of shame.
ohhh mann the wait for Persona 5 is nearly over 🙂
Yeah not much there for me, though I will be grabbing Lego City Undercover and Yooka-Laylee.
No mention of the Dark Souls 3 dlc……. So much fail in a single list.
Elite for PS4? I’m keen….
March 30: Beat Cop (PC, Mac, Linux) http://www.beatcopgame.com
April 18: Wonder Boy – The Dragons Trap (PS4, Xbox 1, Switch) http://www.thedragonstrap.com
Woah, I hadn’t heard of the Wonder Boy remake, that looks great!
I’m kinda glad things are slowing down a bit for the next few months actually, still so much to catch up on from March! Mind you, keen for Yooka-Laylee, Edith Finch, Snake Pass and Fire Emblem, with a curious interest for Persona and Prey, so maybe I’ll end up eating my words and adding more to the pile rather than taking them off…
