If you’re old enough to have played Mattel’s classic handheld football game, you’ll get a kick out of this reference. The rest of you will have to settle for the other Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage in the movie’s latest trailer.
I still have one of those little bastards floating around somewhere, and you can buy working replicas of it all over the internet. I remember sitting in my grandmother’s living room playing it, wishing I had an Atari 2600. I don’t remember it being capable of detecting approaching intergalactic monsters, but it was pretty long ago.
Star-Lord’s dad probably remembers the game too. He shows up at the end of this two minutes of space crazy.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on April 25, four days after I turn more than old enough to play Mattel handheld football.
