Switch Launch Game Snipperclips Is A Pleasant Surprise

Snipperclips is the low-key charmer of the Nintendo Switch launch, a download-only indie game turned Nintendo-published co-op puzzler. It's $30, with a free demo and, as you can see in the archived livestream above, we had a good time with it.

In Snipperclips, players control little characters who can cut divots in each other and then use their new shapes to solve puzzles. Maybe one player will shave the other into a point so they can pop balloons. Or maybe they will cut a scoop in their head so they can ferry a basketball into a hoop. Players often need to stand on each other and use their new shapes to make one bigger shape. Stuff like that. It's fun.

The game is played on a single Switch, with each player holding one of the Switch's Joy-Con controllers horizontally for mostly co-op missions. There's some competitive stuff, too, as you'll see when we engage in brutal combat about 32 minutes into the clip.

Tried the demo on Friday. Bought the game straight away. This game is the game people should own instead of 1,2, Switch or the game that should come bundled with the system. It's such a cute fun puzzler that makes really good use of the joycon in horiztontal mode. Easily the 2nd must own game on the system atm.

It's actually amazing for the money. Had a blast playing this with my non-gamer missus (the egg rolling games a real winner), and then another great time playing the versus mode over the weekend drinking with mates. Hilarious how involved some 2d Basketball can be when you can cut your opponent to pieces mid match

It's a lot of fun, is full of charming animations, and has a strangely saucy edge to the interactions.

played a ton with the non gamer gf (probably played more then botw at this stage) and its really fun and sometimes fustrating

It's a lot of fun, but the puzzles are too hard for my kids.

Yeah the puzzles are a bit much for my kids too. I play it with them and my 7 year old cracks up at the animations.

Played this with my non gaming wife.........had visions of the Wii days.

Cracked it out at a BBQ on the piss with mates over the weekend. Good times. Good times indeed. I would have given my left nut for SFII on Saturday night though.

Yup my two (4 and 6) just enjoy cutting each other up, than doing the puzzles, it's the rotating that gets them.

Played the demo, loved it. But haven't bought it, since I tried the demo out again later by myself and it wasn't anywhere near as enjoyable. Really wish it got the retail treatment and 1-2-Switch was relegated to eShop backwater, would have happily swapped those two purchases around.

Maybe one day when I have someone to play it with :P

Played it with my wife and bought it the next day, really great game. Was surprised to find it had a few competitive modes too which is something I joked about to my wife when we played the demo. Awesome fun.
