Microsoft is testing out a digital refund service on Xbox One, although it’s currently only available to alpha testers and might not make it to the public. If this service does go wide, Xbox One players will be able to return games that are less than two weeks old and that they have played for less than two hours, just like Steam users can.
The news first popped up thanks to members of the Xbox Insider program, posting on Reddit. Microsoft says they’re simply testing out the service using that Insider program and have “nothing further to share” in regard to if and when this will be open to the public.
Here’s Microsoft’s full statement to press:
We’re always looking for new ways to improve the customer experience and regularly release new features into the Insider Program to encourage and foster fan feedback, which helps us test and refine features before they reach general availability. Earlier today, we enabled self-serve refund pilot testing for digital content via the Xbox and Windows Insider Programs and this testing is presently limited to select Insider members. Insiders can learn more about the criteria for claiming digital refunds via the Insider Hub. Beyond that, we have nothing further to share.

I need this on my Vita for Uncanny Valley. I don’t generally regret purchases, but that is one poorly designed title.
