The Weekend In Esports: Gears Of War Goes To The Beach

Dota 2 returned this weekend with the Asia Championships, while big things are happened across League of Legends and elsewhere. A little game called Gears of War 4 also returned with a major tournament down at the Jersey shore.

Dota 2

The bracket stage of the Dota 2 Asia Championships has begun, with Evil Geniuses kicking things off by pushing Wings Gaming out over the lower bracket. The $US600,000 ($785,954) prize pool event continues, with the grand finals are scheduled for early next week..

Gears of War 4

The Gears Pro Circuit: Atlantic City Open resumed with Optic Gaming, Team Envyus, Eunited, and Allegiance starting at the top of their group in a bid for first place overall at the $US200,000 ($261,985) event. You can rewatch the games below.

League of Legends

The League of Legends summer promotion has begun stateside, while the European league’s regular season is coming to a close. The South Korean and Chinese leagues continued as well.

Madden 17

With $US50,000 ($65,496) for first place, the Madden Challenge kicked off. The weekend saw the conclusion of the group stages, with the elimination bracket concluding a month ahead of the Championship in May.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The iBuyPower Spring Invitation was a small affair featuring eight teams, including Cloud9, OpTic, and Liquid, for a weekend skirmish. The games can be rewatched on Twitch here.

Overwatch

After last week’s Carbon Series, this weekend showcased the Overwatch PIT Championship, with the last matches of Europe’s group stage playing out. In North America, things got underway starting with GFE vs. Riseat 7:00PM EDT in Group A. Matches will resume on Sunday at the same time and go through the rest of next week.

Smash Bros.

The Shuffle event in Columbus Ohio kicked things off, featuring tournaments in both Smash 4 and Project M. You can stream the Smash 4 matches here and the Melee bouts here.

Street Fighter 5

The first round of Red Bull’s 2017 Proving Grounds events began in Philadelphia, while there was also the Sonicboom tournament in Madrid, Spain. You can stream that tournament live here.

Rocket League

In the third week of the spring Rocket League Championship Series, NRG squared off against Denial Esports. The European bracket got underway as well, starring Northern Gaming and Mock-It eSports.

Vainglory
