Yooka-Laylee Glitch Lets You Skip Half The Game

Yooka-Laylee Glitch Lets You Skip Half The Game

You’ve spent a handful of hours scurrying around thick jungles, frozen snow fields, and gloopy swamps to find enough shiny gold book pages to complete Yooka-Laylee. But wait! The game wants you to collect even more. Thankfully, with some out of bounds trickery, you can ignore that and skip to the final boss.

One of the more baffling decisions that I encountered in Yooka-Laylee was just how many magical “Pagies” it asks players to collect before the titular animal duo can confront the final boss. After travelling across various worlds to find hidden trinkets, the game teases an ultimate confrontation before kindly asking that you find a total of 100 sparkling doo-dads. Most players will have 50 to 60.

Fear not! You can skip the extra shenanigans thanks to a glitch that sends you out of bounds.

MilsTailsPrower has posted a quick video on how to break out of the map in the game’s hub level Hivory Towers. By damaging yourself in a specific pool of acid, it is possible to clip out of bound and use Laylee’s ‘Flappy Flight’ ability to fly upwards and land behind the door leading to the final boss. In practice, this cuts the game nearly in half. It’s great for speedrunners looking to blaze a path to the ending.

This isn’t the first time a major boss door skip has been found in a collect-a-thon. In 2012, a method was discovered that allowed players to skip the large door to Banjo-Kaoozie‘s final boss, the cackling witch Gruntilda.

It remains to be seen if a patch will address this glitch. For now, if you want to speed things along, consider taking an acid bath and flying through the void.
