Darksiders 3 was subsequently confirmed for a 2018 release thanks to an IGN First reveal.
Here is the product description via Amazon:
Play as FURY – a mage who must rely on her whip and magic to restore the balance between good and evil on Earth!
Harness FURY’s magic to unleash her various forms – each granting her access to new weapons, moves and traversal abilities
Explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world in which FURY moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story
Defeat the Seven Deadly Sins and their servants who range from mystical creatures to degenerated beings
Darksiders signature art style – expansive post-apocalyptic environments that take the player from the heights of heaven to the depths of hell, dilapidated by war and decay and overrun by nature
A release date of 31 December 2018 was listed, but that could be a placeholder.

Excited about this, though Joe Mad isn’t involved on the art side and it sadly shows a bit. Hoping for something more like the first Darksiders and less like the second, but happy as long as it’s got the same Metroid / Zelda style dungeons and traversal and so on.
The developer is Gunfire Games, which is pretty much all the leads from Vigil that worked on the first two games, with the exception of the guys that struck out separately with Joe Mad to work on Battle Chasers. Seems like it should be in safe hands.
Metroid / Zelda style dungeons, are you serious?? I passed on Darksiders last month when it was free on Xbox through games with gold, because I thought it looked like just another button bash brawler.
If I knew it had Metroid / Zelda style dungeons I would have picked it up instantly!
Darksiders 1 is one of the most competent Legend of Zelda knockoffs out there, in the Ocarina style. You even get a boomerang and a hookshot and a pet horse to ride. Darksiders 2 muddies it a bit with more combat focus and diablo-esque gear drops but the area design and traversal is vintage Zelda stuff.
Awesome, based on your comment I went ahead and purchased Darksiders Fury’s Collection – War and Death. Currently 50% off on Xbox store for a total of $26.23.
Hope you like them. My one recommendation is that you *must* give the first game a fair shake. It doesn’t immediately jump out as being a Zelda-like. Not really until you hit the first proper dungeon which is maybe 3-4 hours in or more. The combat is very ropey at first too.
Yep, got up to the Cathedral last night. While I was already enjoying the game, the enjoyment level has certainly ramped up! It’s bringing up a lot of fond Zelda memories.
Don’t forget the portal gun!
I’m pretty excited for this. Darksiders I may of been a great homage to the likes of Zelda, but Darksiders II definitely fleshed out in all the right ways. I’m hoping this continues with III.
