Haha, Here’s The Witcher 3 Running In 8K, Haha

This is footage of The Witcher 3 running 60fps at 8k resolution. That’s 7680 x 4320 pixels. On max settings. Gulp.

If you need to know what kind of monster could run the game like this, here’s how Thirty IR got the footage across two PCs, the first for playing, the second for capture:

GPUs: 4x GTX TITAN Xp (2017) 4 WAY SLI @ 2038Mhz / 13358Mhz

MoBo: Asus Rampage V Extreme (X99)

CPU: i7 6950X @ 4.30GHz

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3200Mhz (64GB)

GPUs: 4x GTX 1080 Ti 4 WAY SLI @ 2025Mhz / 12110Mhz

MoBo: ASRock Extreme11 (X79)

CPU: i7 3970X @ 4.80GHz

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR3 2133Mhz (32GB)

If you want to watch the clip in 8K, you need to select “4320p60” from YouTube’s quality settings, though be warned, for most people your device will struggle to even play the video at that resolution.

  • If you want to watch the clip in 8K, you need to select “4320p60” from YouTube’s quality settings

    …and have an 8K display

    • Indeed! I have a 4k display, and the 2160p vid looks gorgeous, but just for shits and giggles, I selected the 4320, and I don’t think my internet can quite handle that much throughput~ so chuggy!! the 4k on the other hand, was so smooth! 🙂

  • I mean, yeah it’s purdy, but with anything like this I think it should be mandatory we also see the prices for this stuff in local dollar terms.

The monitor required at the very least.

    • Dell has the UP3218K for sale in the US atm for $4999.

Largest available in Aus atm is a 27″ 5k (UP2715K) and it’s selling for $2799AUD, so I can imagine the 8k won’t retail for any less than $6999 when they first hit the shelves. Knowing our luck, we’ll get stiffed with an extra thousand on top of that though, putting my guess at between $6999 and $7999.

  • pretty sure my computer lost frames just from the video quality being too high ….

oh and i had to wait for 10 mins for 10 seconds to load because my internet is some of Australias finest work.

    • The gusts are caused by the fearful flapping of griffons fleeing from the wrath of Geralt.

…or the animators were having fun.

  • The scaling on that SLI setup would not be 100%, rarely is anything near that. Is worse normally once you surpass 1 card.

A 20TFLOP card (volta xp) could handle it.

  • I’m not a pc gamer – anyone estimate the cost of the monitor and pc to play at this resolution?

    • Those Titan XP’s are $1200 USD each… And there are 4 if them. So there’s nearly $7,000 AUD just there.

Once you throw in the display (see welbot’s comments above) I’d guess you’re looking at $15,000 AUD?

    • The monitor alone would be around 2-3k. The PC would be around the 8-10k mark. Needless to say you would want to be dedicated.

  • 400Mbps internet. Still can’t buffer it fast enough. Also my poor AMD Phenom 1090T was 90% maxed on all six cores. Managed like 5fps at 8k 😛
