It’s been a little while since we heard anything about BATTLETECH, the turn-based mecha strategy from the makers of Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Hong Kong. But some multiplayer gameplay popped up over the weekend, so let’s check it out.
Having raised almost $4 million through Kickstarter last year, BATTLETECH has been quietly in development for the last couple of years. There have been some fairly large developments since then, though.
Paradox Interactive announced it would be publishing the game, which the developers say will give them more support with localisation, QA, marketing support and upfront funds in exchange for a cut of the game’s sales.
Over the weekend, the developers pushed out almost an hour long playthrough of a multiplayer session. Some “super pre-alpha” footage of the game was released in August last year, but the latest footage is a good chance to see what has been touched up, how the UI is coming along, and the general systems in play.
Looking good so far. I know a lot of friends from oldschool LANs that will be keen on BATTLETECH‘s spin on turn-based strategy, especially with all of the weapon and mech management involved.
The first beta for BATTLETECH will go live for backers on June 1, possibly June 2 Australian time.

Pants too tight.
Into. My. Damn. Veins!
I’m ready to climb into my Grasshopper and tear apart some Marik scum in the name of House Liao.
I like the level of detail they’re putting in, like the trees buffeting about when fired near and the autocannons being burst or single shot depending on manufacturer. My Hunchback just wants to give you an AC/20 hug.
This looks awesome. Brings me back to the MW3 / Epic 40k era…
