The Witcher Is Getting A Netflix Series

The Witcher series is being turned into an English language Netflix drama by CG visual effects company Platige Image S.A..

The Witcher series was spawned by Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski and has spawned highly successful (and wonderful) video games.

"I'm thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing," said Sapkowski, who will service as a creative consultant, in an official release. "I'm excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life."

The show will be executive produced by Sean Daniel (The Mummy franchise) and Jason Brown (The Expanse). The Oscar nominated visual effects studio Platige Image S.A. is doing the show, but the official release doesn't specifically state if it's CG animated or live-action — or a mix of the two. No stills have been released yet, either.

Previously, Platige Image S.A. has done cinematics for The Witcher games, which were directed by Tomasz Bagiński. He's also going to be one of the show's directors. Maybe that's a hint at what to expect?

Oh man, the Witcher shorts were amazing, this could be feaking awesome.

come on share real news everyone wants.... will it start with bathtub geralt and will there be unicorn sex?

I don't think I've ever been so excited and so scared at the same time. PLEASE DON'T RUIN IT!

Wonder how long it will be before they abandon the story and just run around playing Gwent

Sapkowski being involved is a good thing, despite him being very critical and a little bit antagonistic towards the game franchise.

In native Poland, there's been tv shows and movies already, but they have all been rarely spotted internationally.

The books are still ripe for adaptation, and most people who only know the characters and plots from the games will probably not get everything they want. The same way a superhero movie's third act can probably be pieced together by comic book fans, before the movie even comes out, this series could (and should) be Geralt's 'origin' story or introductory story, at the very least.

No bloody amnesia is what I am saying.

Count down until the article crying there aren't any trans albino black characters.

What? If you're going to try to be provocative then at least be witty.

imo its more fun to speculate about totally inappropriate casting. I have Nathan Fillion pegged for Geralt. Actually who am I kidding, that'd be fantastic.

As much he annoys me I could see that working!
Then they'll just need a bunch of generic porn stars for him to fuck and they'll have a pretty good approximation of the game.

I know my wife would likely wish for Alexander Skarsgard as a slightly younger Geralt.

Katie McGrath would make an excellent Yennfer. Or Eva Green if you had the money.

Defiantly looking forward to this, my mind is thinking 'Game of Thrones' look. I found the European/Polish TV series and it was very .... plan. This really could work properly if done well.

Please be Live-Action!! I've been waiting for a Witcher TV series, well since like forever! I have faith that CDPR will make sure its A+ quality.

Definitely the best news this week so far.

Edit: This damn well better be R18+ too. It will need to be to be able to explore all of the Witcher-Universe themes.

CDPR don't have anything to do with this show, it's being produced by Netflix in conjunction with the author of the Witcher novels Andrzej Sapkowski.

    Jim Caviezel for Geralt!

Sapkowski will finally get some royalties, eh? Good for him. The books are so fun to read!

(Especially The Last Wish. I'd recommend that one.) ^_^
