10 Games The Nintendo Mini SNES Needs

So we know what 21 games will ship on the Super Nintendo Classic, including the surprise announcement of Star Fox 2. But for all of the games that the system ships with, Nintendo could have included so much more. Here’s 10 games from the company’s enormous back catalogue that belong on Nintendo’s latest retro console.

Super International Cricket

It’s a game that probably only makes sense in Australia and New Zealand, but what a game. Still one of the best cricket games of all time.

Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament

While Nintendo did everyone a solid by including the beloved F-ZERO on the system, the console is in dire need of another multiplayer arcade racer that isn’t Mario Kart. You know, something that isn’t beset with bullshit blue shells.

Something like Micro Machines 2.

Harvest Moon

Absolute missed opportunity here, especially given how big Stardew Valley has been over the last couple of years. And yes, I know that Stardew is coming to the Switch. Still, it would have been nice to see Nintendo include it on the console. It would have made a lot more sense than, oh I don’t know, picking two Kirby games.

Super Mario All-Stars

I’m with Mark on this one. Too good not to include, even if it meant buggering Final Fantasy 3 off or Yoshi’s Island. Fuck Yoshi.

Super Bomberman

They brought out a Bomberman sequel to launch the Switch, but didn’t have a Bomberman for the SNES Classic. Unbelievable.

Chrono Trigger

Would have picked this over Secret of Mana, to be honest.

Mortal Kombat (1, 2, or Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3)

Might have been a family friendly issue, although I’m sure Ed Boon would have been entirely happy to work with Nintendo on this one. Either way, that’s a big chunk of people’s childhoods that was missed.

NBA Jam: Tournament Edition

The mobile port is admirable, but it’s no Tournament Edition on the SNES.

Super Puyo Puyo

There’s no Tetris or Battle Tetris game at all, which seems an absolute shame. I mean, sure, playing wacky golf with Kirby is fun, but it’s no Puyo Puyo.

Pilotwings

When you have a collection of games you need to have one or two things that are just … fundamentally different. And while hoping for the SNES port of Wing Commander would be a stretch and a half, something like Pilotwings would have been really neat to see. But hey, Nintendo. You do you.

So those are ten games that I really wish the SNES Classic would be shipping with. Not that it stopped me pre-ordering one anyway. Speaking of which, anyone else a little disappointed that there’s only 21 games to begin with? SNES ROMs aren’t that massive, surely.

What games would you liked to see on the SNES Classic?
