Titan Comics is bringing Robotech back to the world of comic books next month, but not exactly as you remember it. Written by Brian Wood with art by Marco Turini, Robotech promises to be more than a retelling of the original anime series, and we have a first full look at the new series.

As you’ll see in the exclusive preview below, it’s starting from the very beginning, including the moment the SDF-1 Macross itself was first discovered following its crash landing on Earth, catapulting humanity into a bright, technologically advanced future that just so happens to also include extremely rad transforming fighter jet mechs. It’s when Rick Hunter tries to visit his fighter pilot friend Roy Fokker that things start to get… different.
Robotech #1 is set to hit shelves July 26.

As much as I love robotech from nostalgia, it really needs to die and the companies with the Macross rights that are fueding need to sort their stuff out so that they can release the last 20 years or so worth of Macross stories that we’ve been missing out on.
Robotech is still a sore spot for a lot of people.
Correction “company”. SINGULAR – Harmony Gold
There has only ever been one damned company who decided to “trademark” Robotech/Macross in the west. Yes Trademark. Because it’s a lovely way to make sure that you hold on to the damned brand without any actual expiry date.
And they are the reason that we have lovely lawsuits at the mention of any giant robots or games that use said giant robots OR the fact we can never have any Macross outsitde of Japan.
I used to grudgintly respect them for introducing the series and others out west. But those days are long gone as they’ve become the anime/video game version of Langden =/
Macross/Robotech is pretty much what defined my childhood.
I appreciate the new retelling. However, the look of the characters are… yer… just not right to me. To each their own, i am just a grumpy old man now. 😛
Reduce the copyright to ten years. Everything old will drop straight into public domain.
Actually excited about all this … modernizing of the tech, uniforms, planes etc .. However i’m a bit concerned that Lisa (my old time fave) looks a bit ‘ugly’ in this. She had a cute, sophistication about her in the original and I hope to god they convey this. Minmay looks awesome on the cover though. But yeah, the two companies need to get their shit together and make a fucking awesome, epic ‘LOTR / Star Wars’ like trilogy of the Macross Saga. Then they can continue on with Frontier etc …. there is some serious shitloads of dough to be made here people !!
