The beloved Fooly Cooly anime, better known by its shorthand FLCL, first aired all the way back in 2000. Next year, the coming of age story will get not one, but two sequels.
Announced at this year’s Anime Expo, FLCL 2 will reportedly star a young girl called Hidomi who encounters a character strikingly similar to Haruko. Both sequels will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami channel next year.
My understanding of FLCL was that the series was … well, pretty much done. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of direction the FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 take. Either way, both will air sometime next year.

Pretty pumped for this. The original series was so good.
I’m cautious. It’s not the kind of show I would think could be repeated or expanded.
I’m really unsure how good this will be. Boiling FLCL down it was a coming of age story for Naota. The only thing that I feel could work would be the story of an adult Naota rediscovering what it’s like to be a child.
No Imaishi no bueno 🙁
Good news is Imaishi’s new show has been announced “Promare”
Yeah, nah, onto the list it goes.
I’d seen FLCL talked about a lot way back when, but never knew that it was actually shorthand for something until now.
The best part about this is more anime with The Pillows music 😀
FLCL is not a story, is an experience. It doesn’t matter whether they can or cannot continue the story believably, that’s irrelevant. But if it’s not going to be the same experience (which is to be expected, since the staff will be different), then who cares if the story explains in all the detail that we could ever dream the origins of Atomsk, Haruko and Medical Mechanica or whether Naota became a super cool adult.
