Hearthstone’s next expansion, announced today, is called Knights of the Frozen Throne.
It takes the game’s nine heroes, kills them, then recasts them as undead Death Knights, raised from the grave by the Lich King himself:
Each Death Knight was once a mighty hero of Azeroth — but after the Lich King raises a hero from the dead, they gain unimaginable strength from beyond the grave. In Knights of the Frozen Throne, each of Hearthstone’s nine heroes has embraced the Lich King’s dark power to serve him as a Legendary Death Knight Hero card! Despite their transformation, they have not fallen completely under the Lich King’s sway, so it will be up to you to decide how to wield the awesome abilities at their command.
Hero cards are an entirely new card type that are neither spell, minion, nor weapon. When played, each Death Knight Hero card replaces your hero, casts a Battlecry, dons some hefty armour, AND provides a new Hero Power. While each Death Knight hero is different, they all offer possibilities that can transform the way you play Hearthstone.
Knights of the Frozen Throne is out in “early August”.

I can’t stop playing this bloody game… Excited for this one! Hero cards that replace your hero and power and Lifesteal mechanic (may get Warlock back on track with this). Un’Goro created the most diverse meta in the history of the game and arguably still hasn’t settled completely, keen to see this continue that trend.
Heavy deathrattle/lifesteal focus will make for some dangerous lock decks, that’s for sure. And they need it, they’re the least played class in current meta after being completely homogenised as Renolock for months.
Indeed they do, though Warlock has been strong in every meta since HS began so I don’t mind at all that they’ve had to sit out Un’Goro (though some are saying Murwarlock is ok). Will be happy to see them back as something other than Renolock though. Zoo will surely return it always does.
For sure. Deathrattle usually means sticky cards, and sticky cards are a pillar of good face decks (as face hunter proved) so I’m sure zoolock will be right up there again.
Hopefully, as I think the Discard mechanic is actually quite fun and Life Steal could work great in those decks.
Yeah I’m excited for this set!
We’ve already had a taste of hero cards with Jaraxxus and Ragnaros, so you can probably expect them to be changed to be hero cards when this expansion hits.
Keen to see more, though I can’t wait to try out Deathstalker Rexxar’s Zombeast power!
