The Weekend In Esports: StarCraft 2 IEM XII And The Rocket League World Cup

With some of the winter’s biggest tournaments behind us, things slowed down this weekend. But blessed with an SC2 tournament and another esports World Cup, as well as a tone of fighting game tournaments, there was still plenty to watch.

Below you’ll find where and when you can rewatch all the weekend’s biggest events in competitive gaming. Let us know if you think there’s something we might have missed.

StarCraft II

The Intel Extreme Masters Season XII Shanghai came to a head after a long group stage. The semifinals kicked off with TY vs. herO, followed by Rogue and ByuN play at 11:30PM EDT.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The Gfinity Elite Series continued, featuring Method vs. EnVyUs Academy and Team Infused vs. Epsilon Esports. The top four teams in the group will make it into the play-offs of the $US100,000 ($125,164) event in mid-August.

Rocket League

The Rocket League World Cup got underway late this week with sixteen teams split across four groups battling for the title of world champion.

Denmark, USA, France, and the Netherlands are currently leading their respective groups, with play to resume today at 4:00PM EDT and then again on Sunday at the same time.

League of Legends

Week eight of the summer split continued in Europe, with Ninjas in Pyjamas taking on ROCCAT, followed by Unicorns of Love vs. Mysterious Monkeys and FlyQuest and Team Solo Mid. Phoenix1 also looked to dig themselves out of last place with an unlikely win against Counter Logic Gaming.

Street Fighter V

Defend The North will featured a number of different fighting games this week, but SFV is one of the headliners with players like Punk, Ricki Ortiz, and K-Brad. Matches will be streamed here.

Tekken 7

Abuget Cup 2017 kicked off in Jakarta. In addition to featuring SFV, the tournament was also a stop on the Tekken World Tour. Part of Jakarta Games Week, you can rewatch all the matches here.

Smash Bros.

Get On My Level 2017 is not to be missed for Smash fans, with tournaments across every game bar Project M. You can find a guide to the tournament’s streams here, with most of the big matches streaming here.

Hearthstone

Hearthstone’s Thailand Major is a small prize pool tournament that nevertheless has plenty of talent. You can watch all of the matches here.

Call of Duty

The Call of Duty Pro League Stage 2 play-offs were in full swing, with Faze Clan vs. Splyce kicking things off and matches continuing thereafter. You can rewatch the matches here.
