It’s been two years since Rick and Morty season two premiered and tonight the show finally returns for its third season. Are you ready to get riggity riggity wrecked?
You might remember that I love this show. In a post-Peep Show world where both Archer and It’s Always Sunny are winding down, I wasn’t sure I’d ever laugh that hard again. But then one lazy Sunday afternoon my girlfriend and I decided to watch TV and after stumbling through the Hulu sliders eventually happened upon Rick and Morty.
It hadn’t even occurred to me that the show’s best episodes might be behind it until Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland unleashed a taste of season three on April Fools’ day. But it did not disappoint.
I’ve been trying not to drool over all the behind-the-scenes stuff and short clips that came out of SDCC so instead I thought we could take this time to reminisce about our favourite moments so far in the show’s run and any pet theories we have about past Easter Eggs or where season three is headed.
So what’s mine? Well the show has so many great comedic moments, expertly balancing comedy with tragedy on the edge of a knife and the Butter Bot has got to be one of the best examples.
And of course the ballad of Ice-T is a close second.

Probably one of the first episodes when Morty has to shove something “way up there” and when they had to shoot their way through an airport against a bunch of bug aliens =)
I like any moment with Morty and Summer fighting to be Rick’s favourite.
“You really dropped the ball man..”
Rick: They’re just robots, Morty! It’s okay to shoot them! They’re robots!
Other Gromflomite: Glenn’s bleeding to death! Someone call his wife and children!
Morty: They’re not robots, Rick!
Rick: It’s a figure of speech, Morty. They’re bureaucrats. I don’t respect them.
Show me what you got!
Show me what you got!
The Interdiemnsional Cable episodes are pretty great and we should get more.
It’s damn hard to choose a fav moment though, shows had me in tears more than once.
Start of season 3 was epic.
Ehh. the first one was amazing and was intended as a one-off. The only reason we have a second one is that everyone flipped their shit about the first one (and rightly so, it was gold) and so they felt obligated to do a second. It’s why we have this exchange at the start of the second one.
Alien- “What are you doing?”
Rick- “A sequel.”
Alien- “A sequel? I don’t understand.”
Rick- “Neither do I. We pretty much nailed it the first time.”
He’s admitted to it being the worst episode of the season and they aren’t doing another one this season.
That aside, I think Shwifty’s probably my favourite. The snake holster on the leg trick, SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT, the whole Ice-T saga and Head-ism, tying people to balloons and sending them skyward to “be sneezed back as better babies” Such a good episode.
Rather than any one specific joke, two of my favourite moments come from the soundtrack. Chaos Chaos’ ‘Do You Feel It’ and NIN’s ‘Hurt’ are two of the most perfect syncs I’ve seen in any movie or TV show.
“Keep Summer Safe”
I show people the ship montage on youtube when trying to get them interested in this show. Hands down one of the best moments in the series.
Also I have a soft spot for Total Rickall. The genius in that episode of the parasites memory flashbacks and reverse giraffe is amazing. Plus Mr Poopybutthole.
For me, “A Rickle in Time” when the timelines split and keep splitting, and the screen ends up covered in all the tiny panels, each with something slightly different going on. Maybe not super funny or anything but I really liked it as a sequence, a huge amount of detail in there, and a really effective way to represent the split timelines.
My second favourite moment is probably the “Get your shit together, Summer” speech in “Big Trouble in Little Sanchez”
If not the bureaucrats line up above, then probably the Strawberry Smiggles advert. “My insides are out!” “Oh, I see demons! I see demons!”
Two Brothers is gold, too.
Two Brothers, The Butter Bot, Eye-holes, Gemaine Clement as Fart, Anatomy Park, Rick repeatedly using “taking a shit” as an excuse to leave quickly…
Genius.
Get Schwifty. I loved the song and I loved that giant yellow head in the sky.
I saw episode two of season three last night and I absolutely loved it. For the sake of spoilers, I won’t discuss it.
I loved the episode where Summer ends up working for the Devil in an antique store, especially near the end, “X GON’ GIVE IT TA YA”.
“Keep Summer Safe” is disturbingly hilarious.
The “You pass the butter” robot is really funny too.
