Engineers Are Trying To Save The Miiverse

With the impending demise of Nintendo’s Miiverse, some users are resorting to manually saving their images. Others, though, are looking for a solution that’s a little more comprehensive.

Drastic Actions (AKA Tim Miller), an engineer, began work the other day on an archiver designed to trawl the Miiverse and save it before it’s lost forever. The project’s goals are to:

– Crawl each area of the Nintendo Miiverse Website, including discussion boards, drawings, and Other Areas

– Find ways to parse and each bit of data that can be collected. Including all user data.

– Put it into a format where anyone (developers, users) can make use of it.

It’s early days yet, with not much saved, but others are now joining in to help out, forming what’s becoming known as Archive Team.

“To me, and I think would go to the rest of Archive Team, it’s a part of history and culture,” Miller told Motherboard in an interview. “And saving that for future generations is important. While it may be a failed social network for Nintendo, it’s still apart of our culture in some way.”
