I’m really looking forward to Return of the Obra Dinn, the next game from Papers, Please creator Lucas Pope. The version at PAX West is much improved from the early demo you may have played, with a much more extensive “ship’s log” interface that lets you keep track of all the murder mysteries you have to solve by reliving people’s moments of death as you explore a ship in classic Macintosh-style monochrome. It shouldn’t be long now before it’s out.

I really hope this is available to play at PAX AUS this year. Papers, Please is one of my favourite games for the way it told its story, and Return of the Obra Dinn is looking just as fantastic for it. The visual style reminds me strongly of a high-res Gameboy original screen.
The puzzle element of the alpha build also intrigue me, since you don’t really know the names of any of the crew you see killed (yet), and have to work it out from other clues along the way.
I can’t wait to get sink my teeth into this one.
Having grown up on monochrome Mac games like Dark Castle, that style… does things to me. I cannot wait to play this.
